Food -We had some ala carte sets which vaires but all consisted of rice (not sure if it's Japanese rice?), miso soup, chawanmushi, fruit and salmon sashimi. The sets were really good value and tasted great!We loved the salmon sashimi which was really fresh with a clean taste.The fruit was sweet and simple. We were really surprised by the quality and standard of the food. It's as if it was cooked very carefully and with attention to detail.
The Tonkatsu Ramen was alright but not great. The noodles were springy but a bit clumpy. Shin-Sappporo still has the best noodles! The pork slices here were very generous and thick - very fatty and very sickening actually. By the 2nd peice we were feeling sick as it was too rich. The soup base was addictive and creamy. But after drinking all of it we felt very sick because it was super rich and oily. We think it has not been boiled long enough to break down the fats!
The deep fried soft-shell crab was super yum - as is all deep fried stuff. We LOVE the deep fried soft-shell crab!
The location is easy to find at Orchard MRT.
Recommended for the food - it is very very good. Especially if there is a discount or promotion. Otherwise it can get quite expensive!
The service is polite and alright. Water gets filled without asking. it's a neat and tidy, clean place. Very minimalist. Enough space to walk around and paper towels are provided with disposable wooden chopsticks.
