Mook’s Thai Mookata BBQ is just opposite Bugis Junction near the ever popular Ah Chew Desserts. Mook’s has a down-to-earth interior with wallpaper in a brick design and plenty of space aligned between tables to facilitate comfortable groups.

Mook's Thai Mookata BBQ basically only serves in sizes of 2 pax. They don't have much cooked food to offer either, so if you're very hungry, you will have to tahan! And since, tons of Groupons were sold, there was a long queue of people waiting for tables, just like us. I wish I had made a reservation!! Nonethelss, while waiting in line, I noticed the pictures of drinks on the entrance.

I couldn't tahan anymore, I was craving Thai Milk Tea and decided to order one whil waiting in line and the friendly staff auntie offered to grab me a glass of water first, while waiting who knows how long for a table. I told her, I was dying of thirst and needed my Thai Milk Tea, she laughed and hurriedly ran into the kitchen and come out with my saving grace!

Their Thai Milk Tea tasted exactly like what Thai Milk tea was supposed to taste, I just wished that they had put less ice. Majority of the cup is just pure ice. What a let-down, at least it tasted sweet and was milky enough to calm me down.

Their Lemon Grass Drink was a bigger let down, as it really didn't have enough taste to it, after a while, when the ice melted, it tasted more like  a glass of iced water.

Thai Green Milk Tea $2.90
This tasted like the Thai Milk Tea with Heaven and Earth green tea. No Lie. Go try it and tell me what you think.

The food itself came in platters of assorted meats: fatty pork collar and pork belly, garlic marinated chicken thigh, flower clams, fish ball and a few pieces of the lard. In another basket was an array of cabbage, buk choy, enoki mushrooms, kang kong and tang hoon. Overall, food was alright. You can tell that the portion was made small to force bigger eaters to order more. Drinks were at a separate cost and there's no carbs avail (other than a few strands of tang hoon).

There were a choice of two soups to be poured into the moat: chicken soup or tom yum. We choose Chicken soup as I didn't take spicy. Although they placed a whole metal jug of the soup on our table, the waiters were quite attentive and helped us pour in the soup every time they noticed the supply was evaporating too quickly or when the fire was out.

I didn't know that these were pieces of pork lard, until the staff came to tell me how to oil the hot plate! So this is how you cook your food. You leave the pork lards on top, and as it is heated, the fat oils flow down and oil the rest of the hot surface, and that is how you cook your food! But I didn't really trust this method of cooking and ended up using the tongs to grab the pork lard and scrub the entire hot plate surface with the lard, to spread the oil all over. Especially for the fish slices, I didn't want them getting burnt and stuck onto the hot plate.

The meat cooked pretty quickly once they were laid out on the hot plate. The meat tasted good and they were well seasoned. I also enjoyed eating the tang hoon that was cooked in the soup with the meats. After a few seconds of throwing the meats to cook. I started to see the downfalls of this style of cooking. Because of the way the plate is designed for the pork lard oil to flow down, the meats are always sliding off and falling into the soup. I lost count of the number of uncooked, raw items that fell into the soup while being cooked.

The prawns were suprisingly fresh. After eating the prawns, we let the prawn heads in the soup and the soup was really sweet and I loved it!

A thai branded instant noodles with egg to end off my first Mookata experience at Mook's Thai Mookat BBQ.

The service here was better than expected. The staff were friendly and helpful, despite running around and trying to attend to all the customers as the restaurant was running at max capacity. As we left around 9plus, the crowd was starting to die down and the queue outside the shop disappeared.

Overall : 1) Great service 2) Okay Food if you get the groupon
