I'm been to Ikea a lot of time, not to look at or buy furniture, but went there purposedly to dine at the Ikea cafe. The famous chicken wing of Ikea is good, but not great, and its not really unique to Ikea. The famous chicken wing of Ikea is good, but not great, and its not really unique to Ikea. However, several dishes that I would like to recommend, is really special and you can only find it here, so that's why I would prefer to recommend them to you.
First of all, its the Swedish meatball. It is a combination of pork and beef, but the taste of beef is much stronger than pork. A must try even if you do not like beef. It goes along with a gravy that taste like beef as well, which is good to dip in with the potatoes that come along as its side dish. However, you can't really take this as your main course as I find it not filling at all, so I would recommend you to eat something else and share this among your friends.
My second recommendation is the salmon, my personal favourite. The salmon is very fresh, served along with some beans and potato. The gravy is slightly peppery.
For dessert, I would recommend a slice of the Daim cake, which is only available at Ikea. (whole cake also sold at the 1st storey store) Its like chocolate cake with thin layer of rice crisps inside.
You can also upgrade your meal to a combo, that comes along with a soup/bun and a soft drink. Very worthwhile. The mushroom soup is fantastic, while the minestrone soup is ok only. But you cant choose it as there is only one soup of the day.
The cafe is actually self-service, so you have to queue and carry your food back to your table cafeteria style, so not much service involved. However, as Ikea is forever crowded on weekends, one might find it difficult to locate an empty table and takes a long time to queue and order food. It is also meant for people to clear their own trays after their meals, but when it is very crowded + long queue + a lot of people did not clear their trays + not many staffs to help clear trays + everyone is walking around looking for tables, it could get a bit messy and noisy. So I have to deduct some points in terms of its environment.
All in all, good place for a meal, value for your money, and have a taste of Sweden!
