Located along a row of pubs and hostels, this quaint little place is run by a Singaporean and Uzbekistan couple and the kitchen is manned by chefs from Uzbekistan.

Soup:
The borsch soup served piping hot with wholemeal bread hits the spot on a cold wet evening. It was apparently rated the best Borsch soup in Singapore by KF Seetoh.

Mains:
Their signature dish is the Plov which is rice cooked in raisins and herbs infused with lamb chunks. I was told that this is a special dish in Uzbekstan only served during special occasions. It was very tasty with the fluffy rice spiced just right with the aromas of lamb not overpowering the dish. - Was perfect with the glass of Red Burgundy by Mugneret-Gibourg

Another of their speciality are the Shaslik. Roasted over an open charcoal fire, the smokiness of the meat was just mouthwateringly good. Tender and juicy, their lamb rack shaslik was simply stunning. A pefect pairing with a glass of Chateuneuf du Pape.

Drinks:
This is an area which Zeffir is unique and should be applauded. Their alcohol prices are really friendly. Besides having a wide array of beers and Vodka, it is their wine list which is amazing for a small homely restaurant. This is a list which will put bigger establishments to shame! The wines lists the whos who in Burgundy as well as some Bordeaux and Rhone.

Great Domaines such as Comte Georges de Vogue, Coche-Dury, Roumier, Mugnier, Rayas, Ramonet, Rousseau and Carillon can be found in the cellars. The most amazing thing is that the prices. Compared to other establishments in Singapore who practice a mark-up of at least 100-200%, Zeffir's prices are so close to retail, sometimes it is sold at below replacement cost. The owner's philosophy is to make this a place where the food does the talking and the wines are just to compliment the food. The owner claims that the wines are changed regularly so there is always something interesting to try.

Another great thing is that they have proper Ridel glasses and decanters and do not charge corkage!

Overall the experience for a wine nut was simply a very pleasent surprise indeed. Great comfort food with fantastic wines.
