Have you ever realised that it is almost always a Filipino who serves you at bars, cafes & restaurants these days? And so it was here at this new Soup Spoon outlet in Velocity, taking over the shop space previously occupied by Haagen Dazs. From cold to hot. I'm not a soup lover, preferring a more substantive meal for my bucks, but there is something about dreary weather that makes one reach for soup. Paid $8.90 for a large portion of 'Simon & Garfunkel Chicken Ragout' which came with a small sourdough roll. At these prices one should be given a loyalty/rewards card & served butter without having to ask for it, and once provided have to ask again for a butter knife.....and its not even a busy weekday at lunchtime but a slow & quiet Sunday. The soup was good with chunks of chicken, carrots, potato & abalone mushroom. Don't ask why its cheesily named after Simon & Garfunkel whom I sure have nothing to do with this homestyle broth - whether creating it or drinking it. The ragout is more likely to be a quick one dish meal an angmoh mom would whip up in a hurry. The soup was tasty & I felt stuffed after slurping up every pricey drop.
