Lim Joo Hin is one of the famous Teochew Porridge Stalls that I have ever come across in Tiong Bahru area. They are holding up 2 units of space with some outdoor seats available. Within minutes after the order, a thin old man with grey hair who spoke the traditional and fluent Teochew carried a tray full of dishes and walked towards us. He placed the dish one by one onto our table. Service was prompt and good.

I am not a fishcake fan especially when it comes to such white traditional white cakes but this is great. Their fishcake was smooth, bouncy and biting on them makes it effortless.

Chye Poh (Preserved Vegetables) Egg Omelette was tasty but I find that the sweetness level was abit on a high side and concluded that sugar was added during the cooking process. However this Chye Poh fillings are rather light in taste and the dish blends in well with a bowl of plain porridge.

Lim Joo Hin has a special way of serving the "Lala" (calms) dish. These shells were cooked with fermented beans and abit of spiciness.

What's the characteristics of a Teochew porridge? You will know after slurping down this warm bowl of porridge. The teochew porridge is not those gluey porridge nor the gluey congee we normally have. One will get to see and taste the soften rice grains under the "am" (In Dialect, the chalky layer of water content which is supposing to be cooling to the body)

Another noteworthy item of Lim Joo Hin's is its braised duck. The duck was tender drenched in right amount of sweet black sauce adorned by the leafy greens of coriander. Portions of lean meat as well as some fatty meats can be found on the duck.

The braised Chap Chai was soft and tasty, till the extend that a toothless person can consume them without any issue. The cabbages were braised together with carrot as well as Dong Fen (Vermicelli)

In conclusion, I found find that its pricey and there is one 24 hours Porridge stall in the district that may sell about half its pricing. However, this may be a quick alternative as the other stall is usually pack with people and takes up some waiting time.
Cost: S$24.20
