Cafehopping | The Tuckshop @ Guillemard Road
The Tuckshop
2013-10-25
Read FULL review HERE: http://mitsueki.wordpress.com/2013/09/20/cafehopping-the-tuckshop-guillemard-road/I recently noticed that a new cafe/bar that opened like a 5 minute walk away from my house and so, I had been wanting to go visit it ever since! Managed to get an opportunity to do so with Crystal last Saturday as the bf got called back for army duties. And here’s what we had:1. Kopparberg Wild Elderflower & Lime Cider + Kopparberg Naked Apple Cider – S$12.00 eachFell in love with Kopparberg Wild Elderflower & Lime Cider ever since it was recommended to me during my food tasting at Stew Kuche and I was really glad to spot it on the drinks menu at The Tuckshop. So naturally, I HAD to order it! Meanwhile, Crystal had the Naked Apple Cider instead(:Would recommend that you try these ciders if you don’t really have the preference for beer. Mine’s pretty sweet and yummy. Hehe.2. Homestyle Roasted Pork Belly – S$12.00Crystal didn’t have dinner prior to our meetup so she ordered the homestyle roasted pork belly as seen below. The serving isn’t really big, but it’s enough to share between two to three people, so yeah I had a couple. Gotta admit though, it was really good like how roasted pork belly should be like. Crispy skin, succulent and juicy pork belly – how freaking sinful! XDOh and Crystal recommends that you dip it into the spicy vinegar dip for some mouth bursting flavours!(:3. Truffle Fries – S$7.00Both of us also ordered a side of truffle fries to share. The fries were nice, thick and crispy and I thought they were pretty good! The serving is also quite large actually and comes with their signature homemade dip of truffle salsa mayo. Crystal ordered an additional dip of Wasabi mayo to go along too.4. Sauteed Mixed Vegetables – S$6.00Lastly, we ordered a side of sauteed mixed vegetables of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots to share. Hard to go wrong with them and I thought they were pretty decent. Oh if I’m not wrong – they were sauteed with butter!(:And here you have it – the food that we ordered. Would have to say that we enjoyed every bite and morsel of everything we ate and of course, every drop of cider. The only downside was the slightly long waiting time for the food but thank goodness it was worth the wait!(:The total bill came up to S$50.00 (yay for no GST & service charge!) but as I stayed nearby – I was given a 10% discount (double yay!), so we paid S$45.00 which works out to be S$22.50 per person which I think is fine considering how I enjoyed the food, drinks, atmosphere of the place and of course – we had a great time chilling at The Tuckshop!(:So yeah, I would definitely be back at The Tuckshop again with Crystal in tow to try out the rest of the mains and will highly recommend that you drop by for a visit if you’re in the vicinity for a drink or two!(:Taken from: http://mitsueki.wordpress.com/2013/09/20/cafehopping-the-tuckshop-guillemard-road/…查看更多

Cafehopping | L’etoile Cafe @ Owen Road
L'etoile Cafe
2013-10-25
Full Review HERE: http://mitsueki.wordpress.com/2013/10/11/cafehopping-letoile-cafe-owen-road/The bf, Crystal and I headed down to L’etoile Cafe over at Owen Road for lunch(:I was looking forward to our meal as I had a really high expectation of L’etoile Cafe based on the numerous numbers of good reviews from food bloggers and all alike, so let’s start the taste test!1. Iced Mocha & Iced Chocolate – S$5.90 & S$5.50 respectivelyCrystal ordered the iced mocha while the bf and I shared the iced chocolate. The iced mocha was fine while I thought that the iced chocolate was a tad too water downed for my taste.2. Soup of the day: Mushroom Soup – S$7.00Having heard that the soup of the day was mushroom soup, it was almost my immediate reflex to order it. It was pretty decent with loads of generous bits of mushrooms as seen above.3. Truffle Fries – S$12.00This is definitely the most expensive fries I’ve eaten in a cafe before, so luckily we were sharing! Hehe. Have to say that it was kinda worth the price due to the huge serving. Fries were nice and crispy but I think I prefer the one at The Tuckshop instead.4. Big Breakfast – S$14.90The big breakfast comes with toast, potato wedges, mushrooms, bacon, sausages, eggs of his choice and greens on the side. However, to the bf – the big breakfast wasn’t very big, nor filling enough. I tried it and it wasn’t too impressive either.5. Aglio Olio with Bacon – S$14.90Crystal went with a pasta dish of aglio olio with bacon with is basically spaghetti with garlic, olive oil, chilli peppers and pan fried bacon. She wasn’t a big fan of it though she finished everything, I also tried it and well, I’ll pass on the comment.6. Eggs Benedict – S$12.90My food came last and after trying out Crystal’s and my bf’s food, I was prepared to not really be happy with the eggs benny. Luckily it was alright but I prefer the eggs benny over at Chock Full of Beans.7. Double Chocolate Chiffon Cake – S$5.90Thank God..because dessert saved the day! We snagged the last piece of the Double Chocolate Chiffon Cake which looked amazing and to our surprise – it tasted even better than we thought it would! Nice, soft, moist, mm, we were in love with this cake!(:In total, we paid a whooping S$86.90 for our cafehopping trip to L’etoile Cafe which works out to be around S$29 per person. Was not worth it at all in our opinion and to be honest, we left feeling stuffed, but not very satisfied with everything we ate. Like..the only saving grace was that chocolate cake for dessert.Maybe they were having a bad day on the day we went, I’m not sure why our experience at L’etoile Cafe was pretty negative in comparison to the excellent reviews out there. But well… ;/I may come back to L’etoile Cafe if I’m in the vicinity but I will most likely only order a dessert and nothing else. Besides, it’s too crowded on weekends!Read more Cafehopping experiences HERE: http://mitsueki.wordpress.com/category/mitsueki/cafe-hopping/…查看更多

Eating at Marche @ 313 Somerset
Marché
2013-06-05
Read the full review here:http://mitsueki.wordpress.com/2013/05/29/the-bfs-25th-birthday-part-2-marche-313-somerset/And what we had at Marche @ 313 Somerset:1. White Asparagus Soup – S$5.30 (Seasonal item)I’ve always wanted to try White Asparagus in ANY form ever since I watched Top Chef Season 5 where ALOT of the chefs enjoyed using White Asparagus. Well, I finally had the opportunity to try it at Marche! Note that this is not what they usually have – I always take Wild Mushroom Soup, but I opted for this instead!Regretted my choice a little. Even though the soup was creamy and filled with generous slices of white asparagus but the taste was mm..not that fantastic I would say. Worth a try though! Will definitely opt for my usual Wild Mushroom Soup in the future!2. Caesar Salad – S$9.90If you didn’t know, I’m a HUGE fan of Caesar Salad. And Marche has one of the tastiest Caesar Salad below Saladstop (because of the dressing)! Generous crisp, crunchy and fresh Romanian lettuce liberally peppered with parmesan cheese and all the yummy bacon bits.3. Foccacia Bread – S$1.60Just randomly bought this on a whim. Not a good choice because ehhh, I wouldn’t recommend it!4. Blackforest Ham Crepe – S$13.20One of the MUST orders at Marche will be the crepes! They have loads of different options like chicken, ham, etcetc. For us, we selected the blackforest ham crepe! Comes with this mushroom like sauce and a small side salad. Super worth it and it’s really filling! Recommend!(:5. Plain Rosti – S$6.20 The bf’s ABSOLUTE favourite! I mean..where else can you get good rosti in Singapore? I know Ambush has it on their menu, we ordered it, but it wasn’t that fantastic. Bf loves the plain rosti best because well..he just loves the potatoes! And he ordered TWO sets for himself(: I just ate the crispy bits hehe~6. Ice Chocolate – S$5.60The bf’s favourite drink is ice chcolate, so obviously I ordered this for him(: Rich, thick and chocolatey. It’s good! And not poured out of a bottle or anything! It’s made on the spot!7. Marche Sweet Crepe with Side of Bananas – S$8.20Went crazy with dessert and ordered a sweet crepe with chocolate filling. Also asked them to add a side of bananas for the bf. Reallllyyyy goood! YUM!8. Plain Waffles – S$7.90By the time we reached the waffles, we were SO stuffed that we just couldn’t finish it. What a waste. But it was okay I guess. Really crispy and drizzled with maple syrup. Prefer the crepe though(:…查看更多
