I have a liking for cafe or restaurant that embraces the concept for their customers to customise their own dish. I guess it's a little more of a hassle for the chef but definitely more pleasing to the individual customers since all of us have unique taste.Like eighteen chef, Food for thought also have the similar interesting concept that I love, one which allow customers to be adventurous to customize their own dish.As you can see, the price of the various 'ingredients' are stated individually and you can easily customize your own dish according to your taste bud and also, financial practicalitly wise, according to your budget.Now that there is also circle line that leads to Botanical Garden, makes travelling alot easier.The garlic mushroom smell and taste really good and does not have a too over powering garlic taste. People like me who do not prefer too heavy garlic taste would still love it i'm sure.Salad is freshly made and vegetables are really crunchy and good.Sausage is grilled(I supposed) nicely and not too geasy. Korean KBB provides not only a range of meat available for BBQ, ranging from chicken to beef and to pork but also a wide spread of selection for soup base ingredient. If you are a lover of both BBQ steamboat/ Steam boat and Korean food, then this place is for you. This place serves 2 kind of free drinks as well. Limes juice and Rice tea to help ease the greasy feeling after too much of BBQ meat.The lettuce provided there however is of much smaller size. Harder to wrap, but easier for consumption. Meat on the other hand is slightly far too sweet and easily gets the jelak feeling if not eaten with lettuce and with the soup.Personally I would prefer ssikkek BBQ over KBB since ssikkek honestly have a wider range of cook or raw food selection. If you love the concept of starbucks, a place where you can savour on drinks/desserts and have a chitchat session with your friends and families or say, while doing some work with a laptop plucked in, then this place is for you. (except that this place is not very condusive in terms of noise control since everyone is talking at the same time at a small cafe)Ranging from cone ice-cream, japanese ice-cream dessert, waffles to hot drinks, there bound to have something that you can savour while you sit and have a chat away session.Personally, I think Azuki bean paste(basically mashed red beans) goes best with matcha ice-cream, naturally I picked these desserts as our choice. I picked the one with Mochi while Le sister picked the one that comes with matcha jelly cubes. In my opinion, the concept of the cafe is better than the desserts provided. Desserts are slightly over-rated for the price we paid. $8.20 each. The disappointment for me comes when the mochi is not chewy at all. Is'nt mochi suppose to be chewy. :( And on the otherhand, the matcha jelly is far too chewy too. Would really prefer the texture to be softer instead of feeling lik agar agar. And the matcha taste is not strong enough. Situated directly opposite Jamie's Italian yet able to sttract their own group of crowd.When My sister and I was waiting for our turn to get a table into the restaurant, on the first look, the first comment my sister made was: Ayer, the chicken looks kinda dry and tough.Thank God I never listen to her. I thought since the poulet chicken is their signature dish, it should'nt be that bad after all and decided I should still give it a try. There is a saying of don't judge a book by the cover. Well, I 'll say never judge a chicken by how the skin looked.The chicken came in their special mushroom sauce and the skin taste kinda sweet like some honey roasted chicken. The meat on the otherhand, is totally not what we expected but rather the opposite. It was tender and juicy and goes well with their sauce. However, do note that the sauce given i guarantee you is not enough for the half chicken. Suggest you request for extra sauce since it wont be charged to your bill anyway. On a side note, the Oxtail stew taste kinda like the kind of canned food braised pigs trotters which our mom would have feed us with during our childhood days during her busy day. Beef is marinated well but it is rather on the tough side and really taste like the canned food. Food taste awesome. Just portion is really not enough for a guy. Not too bad for a small eater girl though. The Duck Confit taste a little like the Ayam Penyat in my opinion. Just too salty. The mash potato taste really superb with milky taste yet not too over powering. Skin of the duck confit can be rather tough. The mash potato wins more points from me.Plus points: great service from great attitude servers.Down side: waiting time during peak hour is horrible. Even when you get to go int the restaurant, it will probably take 15 minutes before your order is taken and 45mins to 1 hour for the food to serve. Initially I thought that the portion of the 250g looking steak look rather deceivingly small. After my first bite and it is so unexpectedly good that all the more I thought that the portion confirm wont make me full at all. But after finishing every bit on the plate plus a cocktail drink, I am bloated till I can even order any dessert at all.Ordered medium rare and the steak came out just right. Not too bloody. Wish it is more tender other than just chewy. Not the first time there and brought friends there for a belated birthday celebration.Coming into this restaurant feels like stepping into Korea. Real Korean servers welcome you, Korean music blasting and authentic Korean food served onto the table.The seafood army stew's broth is not too spicy and best of all, it is not oily and does not give a jelak feel unlike the one I have tasted at bibigo. Only disappointment is that the portion is not very big and honestly as a Korean soup lover I would really wish for more broth to be serve for tis dish.Seafood pancakes taste best when it is combined with the sauce. Totally not oily at all and I am sure it will please any healthy conscious people as well.Ja Jung Myun serve there is not too sweet and goes really well with the noodle. Cant remember if it is seafood chowder or clam chowder soup. Soup base taste sweet and but a pity that it is too watery. There is really quite abit of clam meat and vegetable bits in the soup. A dish that children will love.Chicken is a little tougher and drier done by this branch and taste more blend. Not as tender and savoury as the one done by The Cathay outlet.Lettuce in the salad shd be cut into smaller pieces for consumptions instead of the actual slices size. Sauce is too watery and cannot really coat the vegetables well.Pork Slices is too blend and again, too dry. Portion does not really feed a big eater well.This outlet obviously has not enough man power to cater for the peak hour such as lunch or dinner crowd. Situated at a corner opposite the 7eleven, the queue for a table eventually leads to blocking the way of the rest of the people visiting the mall when there is not enough help in clearing the tables fast and allowing people to go in. Even when you eventually gets a table, it takes really quite awhile before the servers have time to cater to your need to make an order.Basically, if you are really thinking of visiting this outlet, I suggest that you pop by before or after peak hour. Away from the buzzing town area hides a awesome Hong Kong Dim Sum Stall in a residential place in Ang Mo Kio.What's the amusing thing? According to my sister who bought the Dim Sum, the food seems prepared by vietnamese instead of the typical chinese or even HongKongers. And what's more surprising is that the food taste really not too bad at all.I would recommend their Special Dairy Salted Bun AKA custard bun. You can really taste the sweet and salty taste of the Salted egg flavour in the bun and it is the liquidify kind and bursting out when you take a bite from it.Their Shrimp Dumplings is not the kind you will see one large prawn inside kind but more of chunks of shrimps with those minced shrimp paste as inner fillings.What I dislike is probably their Chee Cheong Fun. If you have eaten authentic CCF in Hong Kong before, you will really prefer one which the rice skin is really thin and a little towards the translucent kind and those are the ones who made the best tasting CCF. And apparently it is not like this here. The rice skin is too thick and eating too much of those will give off a jelak feel. The sauce is also a little on the salty side for the Char Siew CCF that we've ordered.Overall, It's a place good to try for the first time. But if given a choice? I'll rather go swee choon. (Unless I have a Die hard craving for their custard buns theh perhaps. Sashimi is very fresh and definitely food to satisfy sashimi lovers who are on some strict diet plan. Their crabmeat chawanmushi comes with really alot of authentic crabmeat. Sweet yet not overpowering the egg.The sukiyaki pot is good enough to feed two. Although not on the menu, you can request to order chicken sukiyaki instead of the beef ones on the menu. Comes with really abundance of vegetables and alot of ingredient. Rice or udon cost extra $5. In total, I paid $25 inclusive of GST for sukiyaki + Udon. Which the portion is good enough to feed 2. This Lemon Tart that my Boy friend got for me is definitely not for those that does not like soury food at all. Not only is it sweet, it is also extremely sourish(or at least for me).Pros and cons. Sour would wet your appetite more but too sour can also kill your mood for more food i guess.They also have this brownie which you can literally taste bits of sugar in the cake and honestly, not for the faint hearted. Located near where I stay makes it conveniently available for satisfying my food cravings after a tired day.A Chicken Chop that cost just $7.90 comes with either fries/ rice and 2 other side dish to choose from. For a small eater, this meal would be able to feed 2! If you are a big eater, and this is not enough for you?
