My friend and I came here for the Signature Blackball dessert that many have been telling us about. The layout of the dessert looks enticing but when we started eating it, we were disappointed by the quality of the sweet potato and yam balls. They are not as chewy as other brands that are available in Singapore. An only redeeming point is the quality of the pearls which are chewy and delicious, which definitely goes well with the dessert.

BlackBall Signature consists of a mixture of melted grass jelly, YamQ, Golden Sweet Potato, Yam Balls, Sweet Potato Balls, Read Bean and Pearls. The velvety smooth grass jelly can be slurped together with the other chewy ingredients. There are different textures in the combination but they complement each other perfectly! That is why Da Rabbit and Sweetie Fin would patronize BlackBall every time they visit 112 Katong For detailed review with photos, pls visit: http://musings-of-a-rabbit.blogspot

Had black ball a few times, there was a long queue each time I went. This dessert chain offers an interesting mix of ingredients. My favourite is the signature black ball, which comes with yam, sweet potato, red beans, black pearls, grass jelly. All of them come in different degree of hardness and sweetness, and taste very good when eaten together. The grass jelly is very smooth, probably the one which is least sweet. The black pearls and yam balls are chewy, and the red beans are the sweetest.B

Be sure to go earlier though, as some of the ingredients tend to sell out at a later time. I tried one with self-selected ingredients, with kidney beans, red beans, nata de coco and ice jelly. Wouldn't recommend the ice jelly, it didnt taste good with the other ingredients. And I would recommend the icy one (with shaved ice), the ice is shaved well, I don't see any chunks of ice inside my dessert bowl. Good and interesting dessert!

There are quite a number of 小吃 that are being brought over from Taiwan, but when you compare the ones in Taiwan and what's offered here, somehow it will just taste not as good or authentic. However, BlackBall is probably one of the few Taiwan brand or food that I feel that it almost taste as good as the dessert that I had in Taiwan. I'm super addicted to its sweet potato balls and taro balls which are super chewy and just nice to exercise your jaws without killing them.

What's more, it is served hot or cold, depending on your own preference. It also comes with a small milk capsule which you can choose to drizzle onto the glass jelly for the extra sweetness. Highly recommended to try!

This is the signature dish from blackball!! They are alot of different ingredients in the soya beancurd! And for just $3. Really worth it and yummy! The ingredients are chewy and are kind of like pearls. Adds a kind of depth and flavor to the milk curd! Great and filling dessert it will make you slightly full though. Do not eat this after a heavy meal! Love the grass jelly too!

Sweet potato – soft and filling
Taro balls – chewy, and sometimes your teeth would get stuck as it sinks in.
Grass jelly – bouncy and refreshing. Wholesome shape which makes it look smooth and pretty. Tastes sweet.
Red bean – red beans when used with cold refreshing desserts always reminds me of my childhood potong icecream. It’s sweet and mushy.
Overall great “signature” combination.

You can opt for Cold, Warm, Hot or Icy for the dessert I always go for cold one I shall try warm next time maybe there will be a different kind of feel. Beside dessert they have differnt drinks too ranging $2.50 - $4.50. Do give a try!

I tried Blackball again, this time i choose to mix my own flavour: glass jelly base with nata de coco and yam. $5.50 each. It tastes a bit weird, the strong glass jelly taste didn't go well with yam or the nata de coco, in fact glass jelly overwhelmed the taste of yam and nata de coco. All I tasted was the grass jelly and more grass jelly of different textures! They gave me a small cup of milk to add into my bowl. Don't forget to download Perx so that you can get a chop with minimum spending! I got Blackball takeaway as I was craving for it. The takeaway bowl looks quite small but surprisingly, it seems like there's quite a lot in it. I shared it with my friend and it was quite filling for the both of us. I still prefer to dine there though. The taste seems better when you're there.

Although I've not had the privilege of flying to Taiwan and personally savouring their street food and delectable desserts that are oh-so-famed, I admit being pretty skeptical of the introduction of Blackball desserts into the local culture. Blackball has a handful of outlets sprinkled all over Singapore, and Marine Parade is the most convenient for me. Located on the second floor of 112 Katong, this small dessert stall is more than meets the eye. Located just round the corner from the entrance, it's opposite New Balance. Hidden away from the central mall area, it can be easy to miss!

The ordering style is pretty much the same as all the other kiosks like Gong Cha -except that this dessert stall offers seating. The tables can seat up to 4 persons, or you can choose to sit at the long "bar", facing the kitchen. Not a large space, but cosy enough for a post-dinner get together over fantastic desserts/drinks.

I ordered a Blackball Signature ($4.90) to share for 2 persons, with the choice of having it "icy". You can choose between hot, cold or "icy". Their signature is their best seller, with various sweet potato jellies/golden sweet potato as well as yam, their home made grass jelly, pearls, red beans and a tiny saucer of (coconut?) milk to pour over this seemingly messy dessert. What would seem to be sweet potato 'Q's, and golden sweet potato have the distinct sweetness of sweet potatoes, but without the carrot-like texture of it. (Those who aren't fans of sweet potato will know what I'm talking about!) Instead, it's chewier and has a texture like the jellies you'd find in Bo Bo Char Char -so this easily captures the hearts of the teens while still maintaining a taste that the older folks would like.

The grass jelly is chewy, not too sweet, and goes perfectly with the pearls and red bean. It is however, the coconut sauce is elevates this dessert to the next level -it gives it a rich and creamy flavour that complements the slight bitterness of the jelly. The centre has shaved ice which has a syrup drenching it -surprisingly it's not overly sweet, and the ice is smooth -not coarse. It reminds me vaguely of ice jelly, the local dessert, but with a dilluted dash of gula melaka. The subtle flavours all come together very neatly.

Blackball offers drinks as well as other desserts where you can customise the composition of Yam balls, Golden Sweet Potato and Yam 'Q's in your dessert -a very unique and thoughtful touch, we thought. However, the KING of all would be their Blackball Signature -a lovely amalgamation of the best. If you're thirsty, you may try the drinks but we highly recommend going for the desserts. The yam and sweet potato jellies/balls are also deceptively filling, so share this with a friend and it'll make for a perfect dessert portion!

Service is quick and the staff is friendly, they're also very helpful to those who are ordering for the first time. Try the signatures if you're caught in a dilemma of what to order -you can't go wrong with them! Much better than Honeymoon dessert/ HK Sheng Kee in my opinion. The unique creations you can find here seem like a strange combination, but give it a chance and it may just surprise you...

My first time trying BlackBall and it was good! It has a special kind of taste and the ingredients are really chewy! It costs $4.90 (I think) so it's a little expensive. The kidney beans in the photo has a sweet taste but there's too much ice given. It is a good place for dessert and relaxation but there are limited spaces available and the place is quite small and cram.

Good things come in pairs, so I bought 2 to share with friends.

For the price of about $4.50, the portion was huge. It was quite filling for 1 person.

It was satisfying to eat, and an instant icy cold thirst quencher in Singapore's hot weather.

I had mine with milk, two types of sugared beans – adzuki and kidney, as well as nata de coco (a chewy coconut water jelly). so simple, and beautifully good – you get them in four temperatures spanning the hot-to-very-cold spectrum, and the icy version was a refreshing post-dinner dessert.

. Anyway the signature blackball dessert at $4.90 did not disappoint, the multiple pearl, yam and sweet potato combination appeals well. Certainly a must to have milk added.

Anyway they have this high stool and table which looks cool to sit in but there's only one of them
