I had BBQ with a few of my friends. Somemore, its a korean BBQ~ I like this kind of BBQ. you need not buy food. All you have to do is cook the food. When i am cooking the meat, the sizzling sound of it already made me so hungry. Not to mention, the meat that i cooked was delicious. We ate a lot of different kind of food here. You should go and try it especially for korean food lover.

We were going to watch movies at iluma and decided to try the food here. My friend recommended Chang, a modern Korean restaurant joint and I decided to give it a go. I was actually craving for a bowl of good old hot and spicy kimchi soup however Chang only had salmon kimchi soup, so I tried that. It turned out not to be spicy and had a fishy, tomato flavor in it, even after they had replaced the soup, when I complained. Strangest kimchi soup I have ever tried. The restaurant exterior didn't look too appealing. While we waited to be seated in the restaurant, no waiter wanted to bring us to our seats for quite a while, although they were just walking around & definitely looked in our direction! This kind of "welcome" already made us feel not-so-welcome. -_-" Finally when a Filipino waitress came and brought us in, we were given a table just next to the entrance, & not allowed to change seats because "more private seating reserved for regular customers".

As we hadn't catch up for quite a while, we started chatting once seated, while waiting for someone to guide us how to start the buffet (since it was our first time). Again no 1 bothered to come and guide us!
It was till at least 5 minutes later the same waitress who brought us to our table, came hurriedly and told us to help ourselves to the food at the buffet counter. We had to self-serve at this restaurant, including getting water and utensils! Couldn't she brief us immediately when we were seated?

I went to the food counter to get the meat for BBQ, and was quite disappointed at the variety available. Only pork, chicken and beef in marinated and spicy versions were available. For seafood, only prawns and sotong were available. There were also hotdogs and sweet corn. The side dishes didn't look too impressive too. Oh but the Kimchi was very spicy, I choked on the spice a few times haha. There were ice cream and cut watermelon slices at 1 corner. The other corner was occupied by cooked rice and miso soup. I only took 3 pictures of the food as I was too disappointed to take more. Haha...

The bean paste sauce here was very salty and not spicy at all. I didn't know and took a saucer full of the sauce, and immediately regretted after trying as the meats were quite flavourful and didn't need much salty sauce already. So I added kimchi into my BBQ meat wrapped with vegetable instead for the spicy taste, and that's when I was choked by the kimchi haha. I liked the coleslaw, as it was crunchy and chewy, probably because of the vermicelli they added I guess. I didn't eat the prawns and sotong, but according to my friends, they weren't very fresh. As for the other meats, chicken was the nicer one.

After few rounds of meat, we were very full and so tried the miserable dessert section - only 2 types of ice cream and 1 type of fruit available. The ice cream was very hard and we had a tough time scooping up! Luckily they tasted quite good afterall haha. By then it was around 9.30pm already and we felt like we smelt of BBQ meat ourselves, think it's due to the poor ventilation.

Overall, I would not recommend friends craving for authentic and yummy Korean BBQ to come here, especially if it's at the original price. There is also a serious lack of service in this restaurant yet they still have 10% service charge! Maybe to them changing the BBQ plates warrants the service charge (they changed 3x for us) -_-"

After the long overdue birthday party made with pals, because of winning a $200 korean restaurant voucher, I decided to choose Chang from the list given of where I could use the voucher simply because it was located very close to my premises!
In any way, I was craving for samgyeopsal (pork belly) and teokbokki (spicy rice cake), the usual!

So I ordered mostly with the 'recommendation' icon in the menu.

So far, I recall in getting the pork bulgogi, the recommendation on page 2, which the waitress said the portion is good for two persons. Two teokbokki ($9.80), the pancake (~10), boiled pork with kimchi as the appetizer (forgot), and the rest was the usual side dishes koreans serve for free! The best part when eating out in a korean restaurant and not in food court stalls.

I was there with 6 others, and we were enjoying the side dishes although the portion is so little compared to Indonesia's serving (but these are refillable. You could ask for more! I recommend the sesame spinach and kimchi)

The first to come was the meat and I was surprised since we haven't received our rice!
So while waiting for our other foods to come, the appetizer came.
Instead of fried or BBQ, the sliced pork is boiled, with a bit of sauce. They've prepared lettuce/leaves on the side, so the usual Korean style way is to eat by taking a leaf, a slice of meat, and the kimchi serves self-explains that it should go together in the wrap. Then you fold it, all inside, and stuff the most delectable thing to your mouth.

I can tell you, this is my first time eating this kind of style of appetizer (I've never seen this before, or usually we wrap if we do the usual BBQ style) but the juice when boiled is thicker and how they slice is pretty thick! So I hope to Chang restaurant that you won't start slicing it thinner and thinner!

Teokbokki came along, and it was interesting with a mix of noodles underneath. Not to be so recommended because it's not spicy at all, and portion is small for $10! Comparing to my previous review which I think has more portion and inside 'meat', this should be given a pass.

Pancake and potato salad (which was ordered by my friend because he wanted to try) said that it's delicious! Koreans are particularly famous with their flat omelet pancakes, and with the sweet sauce it's crispy and lightly delicious. Although for like a personal-pan pizza size, it's pretty expensive but it's a restaurant anyways! Potato was interesting, I ate this for the first time. Served cold when I thought it's hot (because I thought of it like a baked potato kind of thing) and it has two colors - potato and purple sweet potato! It is sweet but it could actually be an appetizer or a dessert.

The lettuce pack with garlic is an additional $3, to eat the meat-wrap style. They give a pretty petty amount of garlic so do ask for more (however in the end they didn't give any). The bulgogi sauce was sweet and when the meat is cooked, dip it onto the sauce first! Then add the soybean paste, garlic and wrap! Friends' verdict says that the meat is also not bad, pretty good for the branch! (I'm not to comment because I can't compare with other restaurants yet!) But I did enjoy it with the sticky rice which i know it's Korean rice - rounder and more succulent. I had a great time eating the pork, and had another extra serving to be added.

Service kind of slow, even though there are a couple of staffs and even the manager himself, who's a Korean, serves. This shows that the Korean standard is there. And whilst sitting there's quite a few people coming over (for Iluma, this is already good traffic!).

We enjoyed the food and there was still leftovers which I swiped down (I should change my name to the eatrubbishbin
) and when I wanted to pay, I only spent 135! I was like, oh deaaaaaaaar me! In the end, the 5 of us sat own again and ordered a round of desserts!

Ginseng ice cream, which is their specialty, comes with the waffle for $5.50. It does come with ginseng bits, so for the adventurous eaters, this is a try! But not the usual sweet dessert you're finding for! The special fruit ice thing is also not recommended, instead of ice cream, it's shaved ice. But fruits portion are noteworthy. Pretty good!

Chocolate and Cookiescream blends for $6.50 are good! Chocolate is sweet and cookies is very thick. I think it'll be a good experiment to actually mix them both.

To top things off, a bottle of soju! Cheers to the rest, a good ending after a really, really big meal.

I was expecting to top up but then, the manager came over and gave the bill, EXACTLY $200. The awesome day ever, I couldnt' eat anymore till the next day. It gave me stomach ache alright. My tummy was too full.

For a place in the city, with bright lights and place is spacious, and have a special room for our own BBQ cooking, not bad at all!

A good lunch indeed.
