Since it has been a long time since i had a portuguese egg tart (which is harder to find in Singapore compared the chinese egg tarts), i decided to opt for that instead of the normal ones.

In my opinion, what appeals to me from a portuguese egg tarts compared to a normal one lies in the portuguese egg tart custard having a more milky taste and nice brown top (from caramelised sugar?) in a flaky pastry base. Crystal Jade ones meet all aspect. The smooth custard smooth tasted like creme brulee and was not overly sweet or milky. Accompanied with the flaky pastry which is just right and not too thick, the whole soft and crispy combination won my heart.

The egg tarts are kept in a warming counter, so when you buy them, eat them straight to enjoy the best taste!

the buns at crystal jade are getting better and better. especially their polo buns! i have to say, their polo buns are the best in singapore. because you can really taste the egg yolk in the sugar crust. no other place in singapore has such eggy crust. the bun is well balanced and nicely satisfying. a bit too sweet, but overall, it is very good. baked to golden brown perfectly. not stale and tough. chewy enough. costs about $2.50

My mother came home from work with breakfast for the next day. She bought the yummy and delicious crystal jade breads. She bought me my favourite egg mayo and pork floss bun. Despite the pork floss being so dry, the bread did not even taste dry at all. The egg mayo was very tasty. As a whole, the bread tasted really good!
