As I visit Japan often, my friends would always seek to find the tidbits I bought for them. I managed to find some of them here at Sakuraya! For those who cook Japanese cuisine, Sakuraya not only sells tidbits, it also sells vegetables (from Japan), Japanese rice, coffee, sake, shochu, sauces, seasonings, ice-cream, beverages and more.

It's a very fishy business. . . in a good way! Because not only you get to choose what you want to eat from the menu, you also get to choose what sashimi you want! Remember the times where you comment that the table beside you got a better plate of maguro? Well, no problems here, cos' you can just select what you think it's best from the neatly displayed seafood.

Step 1: Please be seated at a table first.
Step 2: Order the food and drinks from the menu.
Step 3: Take note of your table number. Go to the sashimi area to select the sashimi you want!
Step 4: Pass it to the staff at that area.
Step 5: You'll be asked if you want to takeaway or dine-in. If you're dining in, simply tell the staff your table number.

Pumpkin Croquette is a MUST-TRY! I love how compact and solid it was! The pumpkin was also sweet and smooth. The exterior was so crispy that it was crunching every time I poked my chopsticks into it. Very good!

Prawn Tempura Maki and Soft-shell Crab Maki have both hits and misses. Prawn Tempura Maki has big prawns but it lacks flavour. It was kinda bland. On the other hand, Soft-shell Crab Maki was tastier but it was slightly oilier than I expected.

Sakura Sushi Set comprises of Maguro (tuna), Kanpachi (amberjack), Sake (salmon), Hotate (scallop), Tako (octopus), Ika (squid), Botan Ebi (sweet prawn), Tamago (egg), and Negi Toro Maki (fatty tuna and green onions). Well, I'll give a passable mark of 5/10 for this set. Everything was lacking of something. Maguro lacks freshness, salmon seems to have been left outside too long, tamago was not firm and toro was mediocre. The reason it passed was because this whole set is only $28 and it is enough to fill a lady's stomach.

I would be visiting Sakuraya sometime soon! Not only the locations are easily accessible, the affordability of the food they serve is a good enough point to put Sakuraya on my to-visit-again list. Also, I need to stock up my Japanese tidbits and food ingredients, most importantly, to satisfy my endless craving of sashimi and other Japanese food.

Heard about the good sashimi this restaurant serves and gave it a try at lunch. The concept is different here, the salmon are packed for sale and you could choose any for the chef to slice into sashimi. Ordered a spicy salmon maki to go with the salmon sashimi. Maki came in very small portions, but had a lot of salmon meat. Tasted quite ordinary, was tasty, and it wasn't too spicy. The salmon sashimi was very fresh and there was a tinge of sweet taste. 5:22pmWe had two of our favourite dishes at Fishmarket Anchorpoint, namely Salmon sashimi and bacon maki. As we were looking to share the sashimi among four people, we chose the largest portion at 22.5 dollars. Upon serving, the portion of sashimi were much more than expected. It tasted chewy and fresh. The bacon maki had its asparagus wrapped by thin slices of bacon. The freshness of the vegetable blends in well with the oil and seasoning of the bacon, making the dish less sinful to indulge in!

Went there lunch with my loved one, we had sashimi, really fresh most importantly, affordable and value for money. Unlike other places, the fish slices are at right temperature, not too cold. You can buy fresh fish and some Japanese range of snacks and condiments at this outlet. GST included, no service charge (explains a lot). But must pay for towel- $0.30 each.

I have the so-called value for money sashimi rice. Sashimi is cut up in pieces and quite a generous serving, it is almost filled up half of the bowl and another half is filled with rice. Although they may be the end bits or cut up pieces, they are equally fresh, it worth every cent in my opinion.

Service wise, it is just so so.

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants! They are easily recognizable for their huge fridge near the entrance, selling a whole array of sashimi, freshly flown in from Japan everyday. The good thing about this restaurant is they don't just serve you just any sashimi, but you get to choose your own sashimi slab, and at the end of the day it is chargeable by weight. I love this practice because I've ever gone into a (mid-range) restaurant, ordered a sashimi platter only to find that there were only 5 thin slices of sashimi which were expensive and didn't look too fresh. Over here, you choose how much and what you want to eat, and if you opt to dine in, the chef will slice up your sashimi and serve it to you.

I wasn't particularly hungry that day so I chose a smaller slab.

Soba noodles can easily be overcooked, but I love it that their noodles are neat and firm, boiled to perfection.

Green Tea Ice Cream

After I finish my meal, I usually go to the fridge area to choose some authentic Japanese ice cream. This green tea ice cream is my favourite! It's actually frozen thick creamy concentrated green tea, coated with green tea powder. If you are a green tea fan, you'll love this too.

Came here to grab some fresh salmon sashimi for our home made yusheng. Even the shopping experience was novel and very fun. There are many types and cuts of sashimi to choose from, and prices are alot more reasonable than other places with 1kg of salmon costing $85. The salmon sashimi was fresh and delicious, and you can even get the chefs to slice the salmon for you

Sakuraya is a 2 in 1 japanese supermarket and restaurant. Went there for the fresh and reasonably priced sashimi! As you can see from the photo, it was really generously cut and of good quality. It's not in the menu, you have to go to the supermarket side of the restaurant and order from the "fridge" and they will cut it up and send it to you. They also have the usual jap food, we also ordered chawanmushi, fish, and cha soba, all of good quality. Loved the atmosphere too as it's filled with Japa

Definitely going back (and would also choose this restaurant over the other jap restaurants in West Coast Plaza)!

If you are a Japanese food lover, you'll dig this place. It was my first time at Sakuraya. Truly amazed at the authentic concept. The restaurant is divided into two sections, one for food & one for a quick shopping. While entering the restaurant, you will walk past a fridge where fresh fish meat aka Sashimis are nicely packed in transparent foils. Bf says that its the first time he salivate at the sight of RAW SASHIMIs.
The fun part is that you can choose the type of sashimi you fancy and it will be sliced right away before served at your table. Yummy!

An increasingly popular drink paired with Japanese cuisine is the Calpico. It tastes like yakult.
I like it.

Another recommendation for side dish is the Fried Potatoes. Its crispy and tasteful. You can choose to dip in a sweet & sour sauce that comes along with it.

I ordered Udon for my main, soup is a lil too salty. But i like the texture of the noodle, its bouncy(aka Q~) enough.

After we finished the meal, we went to window-shop around the fish-mart. They sell many japanese food products (frozen & non) off shelves.

Do check it out if you love sashimis!
i would go there again for that!

I do not like this place at all. The cold noodles are seriously horrible! so hard and in 1 lump! Sashimi is just normal, can be way better. Maybe the only saving grace is that you can have some cheap sake/shochu; but that still does not deceive your tastebuds! Not to mention that service is bad. Noisy and cramp, and flies flying everywhere. Not really an ideal place.

Food is typical Japanese food, but they specialise in sashimi, which are located in chill display cabinets for customers to select and hand over to the staff which will prepare them. Besides that, Sakuraya also has a lot of grilled fish items, and tempura food as well. This wide selection of dishes should appeal to most people.
