Infused with a lemon core, the Formagae Blanc has a delicious blend of both sweet and sour flavours. I expected it to be a tart-based cake, but it turns out to have a spongy cake base. This was not my first choice, but surprisingly it was delectable with just the right touch of sweetness.

Mu Parlour is a quiet and very cosy place. It is the perfect place to chill, read a book, and watch the world go by.

I was hungry and so i ordered their breakfast food. Actually there wasn't much choices for me to choose from so i went for the breakfast food, which comes served with eggs benedict, sausage, bacon and salad. Which sounds like a very safe choice... not unless you like vinegar A LOT. There was a strong taste of vinegar amidst the eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce. Which i didn't fancy so i didn't finish it at all.

I also wasn't too pleased with the service cause the staff forgot about the coffee my friend ordered and we had to remind them.

On a brighter note, the place serves beautifully crafted desserts so while i may excuse myself from the main dishes, i may go for the desserts next time.

Located on the second level, right above Thai Express. Mu Parlour is all about the all day brunch, gourmet cheese burgers, coffee/tea and desserts. The café's concept brings forth an arty-farty feel with a blend of modern classic to its furniture. Love the ambience! Located a the heart of Holland Village lives a quiet and exceptionally non-crowded cafe, not because the food or desserts ain't good but somehow people just miss it. Passion fruit cheese cake ($7) and cafe latte ($4.50) for myself. The passion fruit taste actually complements really well with the cheese cake, not too sour and very delectable while the cafe latte was very mediocre. I tried my friend's Duo chocolate mousse brownie ($7) as well, the different layers of chocolate were so delicious.

If you love to have afternoon tea or to catch up with your fellow girlfriends, this chic and quiet cafeteria will definitely have met up with your expectation. I love how all the furniture and chairs are all mis-matched but somehow giving the whimsical and quirky vibe. The only con is that they do not have a wide selection of food, purely just burgers as mains, cakes, coffee and tea.

MU Parlour serves freshly baked pastries, gourmet burgers and cocktails. A row of cakes were seen on the display counter and we took quite awhile to decide on which cakes to get. Settled on the Carrot Cake and Salted Caramel Tart. The carrot cake feels light and tender and the layers of cream cheese makes it so addictive I can eat the whole slice myself, one of the better carrot cakes I have tasted so far! I was excited to try the salted caramel tart as it had a layer of Valrhona dark chocolate ganache! I love the combination of caramel and dark chocolate but the chocolate in this tart was too overpowering that I couldn't really taste the caramel. Between the two, I prefer the carrot cake!

We each got a gourmet burger and simply added an additional $8 to it for a cake + tea/coffee.

The first burger was Portobello, Beef Patty, Arugula, Horseradish $17 and their signature garlic fries.

I love tall burgers and this was real decent. The portobello was huge and almost the same size as the beef patty. It was so juicy and full of flavour- I am a big fan of portobello and this was cooked right. The patty on the other hand was marinated well but a tad salty when eaten on its own. So in order to enjoy the full burger experience, you have to somehow get a mouthful of everything and the flavours will balance themselves out with the subtle bitterness of the arugula and creamy horseradish sauce.

The garlic fries too were commendable. Real chopped garlic atop the golden brown fries that made it so satisfying to chomp down.

The next was Avocado, Streaky bacon, Beef Patty with MU secret sauce $15 and of course the garlic fries.

If you are a fan of avocado, then you will definitely love this. Creamy dollops of mashed avocado generously spread onto the beef patty till it was oozing out of the burger, together with the melted cheese and crispy bacon, this was indulgent and appetizing. And as my dining partner said, 'There is only one way to eat this. With your hands!' So dont bother with the knife and fork, just pick up the burger with your hands and get a good bite. It's fulfilling the true burger experience.

Moving onto desserts.

The Passion Fruit and Raspberry Tart was certainly pretty and scored full marks in presentation with the little fresh raspberries lining the borders of the pastry. The passion fruit creme was smooth and easy to cut through. One problem though. This dessert was sour! And I mean really sour. While sourness is mainly subjective, the two of us did have relatively high thresholds yet we still could not finish this tart. The combination of the sour fresh raspberries and sour passion fruit was too much. Perhaps the passion fruit creme could have been a little sweeter to help ease some of the sourness.

I am indeed in love with MU Parlour and the vibe it gives. The staff too are not intrusive so really, it is a great place to relax and watch the world go by through the ceiling to floor glass window. I personally thought the burgers were better than the desserts but there are other selections on display which I will definitely try at my next visit. The tea cocktails on the menu also sound exciting and I think I am all ready to plan my second trip down already. How about you?

We chose No.2 – Beef Patty, Paprika, Chipotle, Avocado, Jalapenos ($16) and No.11 – Beef Patty, Avocado, Streaky Bacon, MU Secret Sauce ($15). For the price we were paying for these 2 gourmet burgers, I would say it was pretty good! The beef patty was juicy enough and the blend of avocado with the paprika and chipotle sauce (all of which are my favourite) brought our the flavours very well. The bacon though, had been a slight disappointment.

We were stuffed! But I love desserts, so we decided to try just one tiny one – Lychee Mousse ($8)! Soft, fluffy and sweet, it was rather tasty from the first few spoonfuls. However, it became a bit hard to swallow near the end due to its sweetness. Nonetheless, if you are considering on what to eat at Holland V and getting bored of the usual hangouts, do drop by MU Parlour for its tasty gourmet burgers!

It was so hard to choose which tart/cake to buy because all of them looks so good! So we asked for some recommendations and the staff there recommended chocolate & salted caramel tart ($8) and also the carrot cake ($6). There was also a buy 1 get 1 free for 3 of the tarts but we thought it will be too much for us so we did not get, but I think it's quite a steal!

The chocolate tart blew me off totally. It has a really good combination of bitter and sweet from the chocolate. Personally I prefer my chocolate bitter with a tinge of sweetness and this one was just right for me! I just couldn't get enough of it! The crust was well done too.

I didn't find the carrot cake as exemplary as the chocolate tart like how my friends raved about it. I think it's because I had the tart which has a stronger taste and that covered the milder taste of the carrot cake. But the carrot cake was quite moist, not the dry kind.

Seats are not in abundance at MU Parlor but definitely a good place to chill out with your friends over desserts. We got a table overlooking the streets of Holland Village. Plain water is complimentary but self service. There's large communal table as well, I think it can seat up to 10 pax. Funnily, MU Parlor does not charge GST but service charge instead. We spent $15.40 in total, inclusive of GST.

MU Parlour (located right above Thai Express) is just a flight of stairs away from a secret hideout. Be assured you will be aesthetically impressed. Though they do not have matching pieces of furniture, the theme is of status-quo. Relatively feminine, fine and elegant. It has limited seats, possibly only taking about 40 odd diners at any one go. It can steer toward the noisy side if your fellow diners are loud (because of its low ceiling and contained space). But if you are on the other side of the field, it can actually be sadistically satisfying to settle in and laugh at the below passerby of their going against the crowd.

Cakes & Pastries: As reflected, most of their dessert pieces are priced at $8+. It is indeed, one of the higher priced desserts I’ve seen. No, they aren’t exceptionally decadent or indulgent though. I would say that the Duo Chocolate Mousse on Brownie is the highlight of the night. I thought it was a good idea to pair up mousse with brownie, making it a fair play between soft and firm textures. It ended well, with them complementing each other in flavors and texture. I was disappointed, however, with the Sea Salt & Caramel Tart. It fell a little short, as its caramel did not make an expected amount of contribution to the piece. I could barely taste the caramel, and it was an important piece of chess. The other two slices were forgettable.

Though I’m a sucker for its ambience, the food + price paid were not on par. And though GST was not charged, service charge was. To think that we did not even receive any sorts of service except for them serving the cakes to us. I was actually quite appalled by the lack of service. They could not have done anything besides refilling of our Iced Water, but they failed even that. There were only 4 tables occupied, and they are evidently not short-handed. Our tables were already cleared by then and I could have swore one of the service staff saw that our cups were empty, but did nothing. It led me to think if they were hinting for us to leave.

For that, I probably wouldn’t head back any time soon. Until that is the last resort (though highly impossible, seeing that there is no lack of dessert places in the Holland Village area).

For mains, they only have burgers, and that is what we are going for initially, as it was mentioned their burgers were good. Ordered two burgers, but think it was only average. But looking at their desserts, it was so beautifully displayed, and we can't helped ordering it, despite the disappointment for their burgers.

I would perhaps visit them again for the desserts, and enjoying the classy decor they have. For my main wise, I would probably head out to others.
