Sometimes you can get lost in the extended row of restaurants, bars, cafes and the likes in Holland Village. I’d understand. It’s like, where do we even begin in this cross junction right. MU Parlour (located right above Thai Express) is just a flight of stairs away from a secret hideout. Be assured you will be aesthetically impressed. Though they do not have matching pieces of furniture, the theme is of status-quo. Relatively feminine, fine and elegant. It has limited seats, possibly only taking about 40 odd diners at any one go. It can steer toward the noisy side if your fellow diners are loud (because of its low ceiling and contained space). But if you are on the other side of the field, it can actually be sadistically satisfying to settle in and laugh at the below passerby of their going against the crowd.

Of course, they don’t only offer desserts. They do quite a fair bit of gourmet burgers and my favorite, brunch items too. However, my trip this time round was for their desserts.

Cakes & Pastries: As reflected, most of their dessert pieces are priced at $8+. It is indeed, one of the higher priced desserts I’ve seen. No, they aren’t exceptionally decadent or indulgent though. I would say that the Duo Chocolate Mousse on Brownie is the highlight of the night. I thought it was a good idea to pair up mousse with brownie, making it a fair play between soft and firm textures. It ended well, with them complementing each other in flavors and texture. I was disappointed, however, with the Sea Salt & Caramel Tart. It fell a little short, as its caramel did not make an expected amount of contribution to the piece. I could barely taste the caramel, and it was an important piece of chess. The other two slices were forgettable.

Though I’m a sucker for its ambience, the food + price paid were not on par. And though GST was not charged, service charge was. To think that we did not even receive any sorts of service except for them serving the cakes to us. I was actually quite appalled by the lack of service. They could not have done anything besides refilling of our Iced Water, but they failed even that. There were only 4 tables occupied, and they are evidently not short-handed. Our tables were already cleared by then and I could have swore one of the service staff saw that our cups were empty, but did nothing. It led me to think if they were hinting for us to leave.

For that, I probably wouldn’t head back any time soon. Until that is the last resort (though highly impossible, seeing that there is no lack of dessert places in the Holland Village area).
