Dont worry if you can't get much from the menu. You get closer to them when you look at the walls.

It was quite an experience to get in touch with such childhood items like Old Maid Cards, 5 stones, magnetic snake & ladders, erasers with flags and even the Archie comics. Wouldn't it be nice to feel nostalgic once in a while.

Half level up and you will get to see the busy kitchen helpers at their best preparing food to their customers. Beside the nostalgic games and books we all read in the 80's, you will get to see old electronic items like the small yet fat size TV in the screen below.

OSD had me at Kueh Pie Tie! This classic Nonya favourite which consist of little cups of crispy shells filled with juicy braised turnip was a total turn on! Topped with egg bits, parsley and their homemade chilli sauce, ordering this is highly recommended.

A rich, home style meal made of mushroom based sauce was oured over their lightly blanched hor-fun. Ingredients like shredded chicken, mushroom slices and leafy greens were served with their home made sambal belachan. Note that its only available from Friday to Sunday.

Old School Mocha-Cinno was classified as one of their Signature Traditional Brew. Made up of a combination of roasted black coffee with malted chocolate and thick frothy milk. It tasted a tad bitter and dont really suit a non coffee person like me.

Highly raved by my close pals, these are not to be missed since I had came all over from the West Side of Singapore. It's really an old school canteen favourite. The wings were perfectly done up at the right texture without being too oily. The slight garlic taste permeates the chicken meat, giving a special taste to the tender chicken. What I like best was the crispy light layer of golden brown skin!

A reinvention of the Hainanese Pork Chop. Instead of a full flavoured pork, they had it done with chicken instead. Chicken chunks were delicious and crispy, smothered with their homemade sweet-sour sauce, bringing out a tangy taste. These Hainanese Favourite was paired with a bed of garlic fried rice, a perfect match made without being too greasy.

Visiting this place had stirred the old memories in me, my childhood days back then. It feels so good once in a while to "travel back in time". Besides that, there are food in OSD worth going back for.

And it was filled with the old school games of five stones, snakes, donkey, and erasers!

And of course, other than five stones (which T didn't even wanted/know how to play), I lost at every other games. T.T

And as my visit was a good while ago, no definite pricing shall be stated as I can't remember them well. But prices are still considered affordable for a cafe, but pricier if you compare the dish 'apple to apple'. Eg, you can get them at a few dollars cheaper if you've ordered them at your neighbourhood coffee shop or hawker centre.

Our drinks for the night - Milo and Barley.

I wanted Milo Dinosaur while T wanted Horlick Dinosaur, but both are sold out.

The milo was okay, but the barley became quite washed down from all the ice after a while.

Nasi Briyani with Fried Chicken.

The rice is quite a disappointment, tasting more like just plain rice cooked drier and dyed yellow and orange. There's totally no fragrance of our usual briyani rice, much less to say of any taste. However, the fried chicken was simply divine! Fresh from the fryer, it was piping hot, with the skin totally crispy and the well marinated meat flavourful. I wouldn't say the meat was succulent and tender, for it was more on the dry side but the crispiness and tasty flavour just made every bite so satisfying!

I didn't feel much for the curry gravy, for it was the more 'traditional' Indian curry taste with the distinctive taste of spices. The achar was not too sour, the cucumber remains pretty crunchy, just nice for my tastebuds.

Just for the fried chicken itself, I'll say this was worth it.

T's mains for the night - Home-Style Curry Chicken

I asked him to try out their signature dish, the Mee Siam, but it was also sold out for the night, so he chose this instead. This was pretty okay, the curry deviating more towards the Chinese home-cooked style, flavourful and comfortably spicy.

Jumbo Otak.

Hmm, once again this is just of mediocre standards. For an otak, I will prefer it to be slightly spicier, and the otak meat was a little too tender it tasted kind of mushy and feels "undercooked". Just my own personal liking, I prefer a chewy, slightly drier otak.

I was also eyeing their Sticky Chewy Chocolate Fudge cake, but when I was there, they were only left with the pound cake. T.T

Not sure if I'm just plain unlucky or they really get sold out on their popular dishes so early into the night, so just to play safe, do drop by earlier in the evening or do a lunch instead if you're interested to try them out.

Freshly-grated turnips and egg strips, I treated it as my Tea-break snack. Accompanied their special homemade chilli sauce, it suddenly became a classy dish. Crispy with the wonderful taste, this traditional dish was my favourite since I was small. We were busy playing around with the toy box, card game and magnetic board game, such a naughty fun place. The selling price here was wallet-friendly, we enjoyed our lively tea-time here.

Nasi Lemak - $6.80

My nasi lemak served with fried rice. >.<

Sobz, because the rice was sold out, so I got to replace it with fried rice lor... @#$%

Everything on the plate was pretty normal, not particularly tasty which was definitely doing injustice to the price. I dunno, maybe the chilli was superb good? I dun take chilli, so I decided that the chilli must be good. Otherwise, why so many suckers paid $6.80 for a normal nasi lemak?? The famous nasi lemak at Changi Village is only selling at $4 for similar sides mah =p

Mee siam was alright, at least not too spicy for non-spicy eaters like us. Then again, it may not be shiok enuff for ppl who take spicy food. Hmm.. ask for more chilli then!

it's really about time that i started exploring all the foodie places around upper thomson. there are new outlets sprouting up around this place all the time!
how eggciting xD old school delights is this really adorable little cafe that is super, well, old school! haha. there are blackboards all around, old school goodies like those icing biscuits (you know?) and even toy boxes with games like five stones! haha so cute (: and you order your food by writing it on a little whiteboard which they provide at each table! haha fun!!

their food is quite affordable, and really yummy!!!
or maybe i was just starving then, but i really enjoyed it (: the hainanese chicken cutlet ($8.90) was wonderfully crispy with a light airy crust encasing juicy chunks of chicken pieces and covered with OSD's homemade zesty sweet & sour sauce. the fried rice that came with it was nice and eggy too (: yummm!

my friends wanted to order the home-style curry chicken ($8.90) which sounded really delicious! unfortunately it was sold out
i guess that is testimony to its popularity! ;) so instead they ordered the old school heritage mee siam ($5.20). this was another yummy dish (i must say ALL the dishes we had were really fragrant!!
). the blend of 11 fresh grounded spices lent an awesome flavour to the sauce.

and i definitely have to rave about my nasi lemak besar ($7.20). omgosh. the moment i put a spoon of that rice into my mouth, i was sold. the burst of aroma from the pandan and coconut in my mouth was amazingly awesome! i haven't eaten such fragrant nasi lemak rice in a really long time. and the amount of dishes accompanying it is pretty generous. a chicken wing, slice of omelette, ikan bilis & peanuts and otah. plus a huge dollop of homemade sambal chili that was oh-so-delicious! this is definitely one awesome meal
whee! and they were really nice, allowing us to make changes to the dish. like my friend, who didn't want otah, managed to change it for ANOTHER CHICKEN WING at the same price! wow. haha actually i don't know which one is worth more, but it's nice that they let her change it (:

my friend also ordered the OSD signature pulut ($2.20) which is glutinous rice with a filling of savoury-sweet hae bee hiam (dried shrimps). it came rolled up in a leaf, and when we smelled it, we nearly got blown away! haha. the smell of the hae bee hiam was just totally mind-blowingly awesome. the combination of sticky rice and crunchy dried shrimps was just delicious

after all that food, we were really quite full already. but we had spotted the sticky chewy chocolate fudge cake ($5.50) when we first entered and we absolutely could not resist it!!! i have to say that it looked nicer as a whole cake because we could really see the layer of thick gooey fudge on top of the cake. somehow it seemed to be absent in this slice. but it was nice and chocolately, with spongey cake layered with the sticky chewy chocolate.

the banana cake ($4.20) was again super duper fragrant. every bite was infused with the flavour of the banana, im pretty sure it was REAL bananas and not just the essence. absolutely delicious!

On each table, a Toy Box is placed by the side for your entertainment. Many a time, diners would be distracted by the toy box, ignoring their growling stomachs, or the fact that ordering of food is actually required. Don’t make the same mistake, (1) Order (2) Play. That is the right order. Even as a 90s baby, I have played Five Stones, the Country Erasers, Snakes & Ladders, and Donkey before. If it was already nostalgic enough for me, imagine my parents when they were at the table..

Nasi Lemak Besar ($6.90+): I’ve had more Nasi Lemaks in my life than the previous two dishes. I was disappointed that the chili did not quite meet my expectation. It wasn’t spicy enough. The rice wasn’t fragrant enough. And the wings was very ordinary as well. I’d rather you take the gamble on the Laksa / Mee Siam.

Chendol ($3.80+ ): I thought the coconut was a little too overpowering. That is just me, but pretty acceptable in general.

The food, in general, are edible and can-eat, though they do not commonly contain the wow-factor. I say it’s a must to head there at least once, just to relive the childhood moments and memories. Go with your family, that would appear more priceless it seems. Grab some photos, and admire it some years down the road again. Pictures speak a thousand words, here are a few more.

Service is commendable. Their job is not only to wait the tables, but to make sure you have the time of your day, they know what their restaurants can offer.

I got to know this place through my friend's recommendation and finally we went to try this out. When we reach the place, the area is so cute and many things reminds us of the childhood memories. So nostalgic! This is a place suitable both for dining alone or in groups. The food is also quite delicious - the sauce mixture is just nice and not too spicy. The nasi lemak has a very traditional feel, and the chicken wings were also hot and tasty. I will be back again!

The food here was quite the letdown. Most of the stuff seemed to be served up by a novice home cook. It's not terrible, but a lot of their dishes were not even on par with those in the hawker centre, and taking into consideration the higher-than-hawker-centre prices here (which are admittedly cheap by most restaurant standards), I didn't think my money travelled the distance here. If I'm going to eat hawker-styled food in nice digs at higher prices, I'd like the food to be at least on par with those at the hawker centre. I don't mind paying more for a nicer ambience, but I do mind forking out more for sub-par food.

I couldn't understand how the place was packed to the brim on a Saturday night when we visited for dinner. There was even a short queue outside when we left as well! Maybe it's our love for all things nostalgic, and a yearning for the carefree days of yore? As such, do be sure to make reservations if you really still want a dash of the past.

We had:

1) Chicken Macaroni Soup ($5.90) with shredded chicken breast meat, a couple of quail's eggs, sliced fish cakes, carrots and lettuce in a plain-ish chicken broth was alright, but I've had better. The soup base was sorely lacking in depth. This would make really good "sick food" because it's just so dull.

2) Hainanese Chicken Cutlet ($8.90) was better, even if the garlic fried rice was barely passable. Judged on its own without the rice, the chicken cutlet was juicy and flavourful: decent and relatively value-for-money considering the portion

3) Home-style Curry Chicken ($8.90): Creamy, well-rounded and robust curry. But that was it. The potatoes were significantly undercooked, and the chicken, while large, was also lacking in flavour. They needed to be stewed/marinated for a longer period of time

Old School's delight is a pleasant place to be if you want to reminisce about Singaporean food and your childhood experiences. As for the food, it is acceptable but not exceptional. I ordered a piece of mackerel otah. This was not overly spicy but the otah paste itself was not outstanding. There was not much mackerel taste in it and the otah came across as a tad too oily.

A modest eatery filled with all things that remind us (my generation) of the things we grew up with... 5 stones, the iconic SBC television logo, marbles, little mantou biscuits with an icing tip etc.

My second visit here, I had recommended the place for a birthday gathering dinner after work.
The eatery is more catered for small group gatherings (up to maybe 6 people per table?) so, they had probably made some furniture re-arranging to cater to the 10 of us.

To order, we were given a marker and small white board. The wait staff had told my friend to draw out our orders and my friend took it seriously. Gosh. Oh wellz, the fun wait staff took time to guess our drawings and fortunately got all our orders correct!

Service is pretty fast.

Ordering the bowl of Macaroni Soup was deja vu for me. Reminds me so much of the days back in Primary school when a serving like that costs only S$0.50. And it was shiok to the max!
Well, there were nothing much more I could order actually considering the mother had already understood the average price of food in the canteen was only 50cents... thus, a daily allowance of 60cents.

We too ordered sides such as the Chicken bites and fries. The chicken bites were so good, we ordered a total of 4 baskets after the first basket got wiped out!

Ah. And where else to enjoy a cup of Ovaltine other than the coffee shop now..? Not even sure if the coffee shop still sells Ovaltine or Nestum.

A good place to chill with friends after work.
The place does get crowded so, try to make reservations in advance if you do not want to be disappointed.

This is their house speciality which is called "OSD Signature Pulut" which is made up of Gultinous rice with a filling od savory sweet "Hay-bee-Hiam" (dried shrimps) in it. I felt that it tasted normal and nothing really special about it. Instead i felt that it is a little bit oily and no fragance smelled and would not try it again but perhaps other food over there. It is not cheap too which costs about $3.

Unlike other cafes which has a theme more related to the western side, this cafe has a old-school theme. From the blackboard where teachers used to the old-school games provided, this cafe definitely brings you back into time. The menu is quite limited with about 8 main dishes to order from. Most of this dishes are local delights ranging from mee siam to nasi lemak to curry chicken. I ordered the nasi lemak. The rice was nice with a strong coconut taste. But the price is definitely not worth it for a plate of nasi lemak. The only thing that I like is the Sticky Chewy Chocolate cake. When it is served, it is warm. The cake has a slight taste of banana which brings out its flavour. The cake isn't overly sweet so it's possible for one person to finish a whole slice of cake by themselves.

Perhaps I will return to try the other dishes available. But for now, with the range of food that it serves, the food are slightly over-priced.

The environment of the whole shop - Old School Delights. When i first entered, i find it special because of the decoration and how everything looks. It is different from other cafes and they use chalk to write on the wall. It gives a different feel to people and it is very welcoming. The tissue holder that they have and it is like the old style container. Laska was average only and again it is a little pricey for the food. Hopefully they can do something to it to enhance the taste.
