The fried mala fish is very worth it. Price is very reasonable of course in this setting cost $30. The food is very generous and tasty here. Ambience is not that good but the quality of food and low price made up for it. You will probably be sweating away with all the ma la by the end of the food journey but it's ok if you have a few glasses of sugarcane water to ease the fire. Enjoy!

I've walked past tables with these huge bowls countless times at People's Park Complex but had no idea which stall they were from. Looking at the food soaked in chilli oil really whet my appetite as I love chilli! I found the stall one evening but the queue was too long; more than 20 people so I decided to come back another day. I finally had a taste of it on the first day of 2013. Since it was past lunch hour, the queue was shorter (still more than 5 people) so I decided to join in. Looking at

Looking at the food portion of those infront of me, I was worried the servings would be too huge. I ordered enoki mushroom, beansprouts, tang hoon, kangkong, pig skin and pork slices. The stall holder was very friendly and assured me that the ingredients are fresh and since I ordered mainly vegetables, they can be easily digested. I asked for medium spiciness.

After payment, I actually wanted to change to low spiciness but the stall holder said medium spiciness tastes better

My 8 items in the mala hot pot.

Whao! The food tastes very good! Spiciness was optimum and I was glad the stall holder insisted that I stick to medium. I thought it tasted a little salty but realized the mala hotpot needs to go together with plain rice. I had skipped the plain rice as I ordered food from other stalls as well.

Total damage $8; $1 for veg, $2 for pig skin and pork slices.

Nice. I will return for it, with rice next time

Though this was the third time I ate this Mala hotpot, it's the first time to write a review on it. It was by chance when I first tried this dish. Ever since then, my friend and I fell in love with it. We couldn't stop thinking of it and that's why there were the second and third time. On our first visit, we didn't know how spicy would the dish be, thus we ordered the least spicy. But it was too mild for me. This time, we ordered the medium spicy one. The interesting thing about this hotpot was that we could select the ingredients ourselves. $1 for vegetables and $2 for meat. Mushrooms were classified under meat so it cost $2. (We didn't order it the last two times).

Eventhough, we have increased the strength, it was still too mild for me. But I realised that it was more salty then before. It was a little too oily too. It went very well with rice. I told myself that I would try the most spicy the next time.

My first time eating a mala food all mixed up in a big bowl. I was attracted to this stall firstly because of a long queue and the aromatic smell from the stall, so both my friend and I decided to give it a try. My order came up to $10 and after I had selected, an assistant will asked what standard of spiciness for our mala and I asked for the mild one. It came out really nice and halfway through, my tongue was numbed due to the spiciness but very shiok! Overall taste was really good and full of wok hei, just a little oily.
It took us around 30 mins plus queuing to buy this food.
