Ishiyaki Beef Pepper Rice - $9.80
This dish is similar to Pepper Lunch's Beef Pepper Rice. It seemed like they put more beef slices as compared to Pepper Rice (hence the higher price). The stone pot was super hot that it caused the rice to be charred easily when I stopped stirring.

Watami Tonkotsu Ramen - $14.80
ramen in special pork bone soup with pork slices
The pork bone soup was so delicate. The onsen tamago still had a bit of runny texture, I prefer this version to Ajisen Ramen's solid one. The chashu could have been bigger though hehe.

Salmon & Avocado Roll Sushi - $13.80
I never am a fan of raw salmon. This was my friend's order. I only tried one piece and didn't want anymore. Raw salmon is just bleurgh... For me it tastes like papaya in a much worse way.

Maccha Ice Cream - $3.60
Not really a fan of Watami's maccha ice cream coz it had a rather icy texture (not soft).

Overall, it was a good dinner. Service was quite slow and it's hard to grab the staffs' attention. Oh ya, it has a wonderful night view facing the river, if you're lucky enough to get a seat next to the glass window.

I ate at the Raffles City branch a few years back and remembered the food and service to be pretty good. I ordered the Self-grilled Beef Steak set ($29) for myself, which consists of the beef, rice, miso soup, salmon sashimi (3 slices), chawanmushi, sliced cucumber appetizer, cold tofu and a wedge of orange.

Here's why I was pretty unhappy with my meal (everything added up and made the experience quite unpleasant).

1) The cup that my plain water came in had a lipstick mark on it. When I told a waitress about it, she didn't apologize or say anything, just nodded her head and gave me another cup. Surely you should apologize for using a dirty cup?

2) The beef steak was served on a hot plate and lo and behold...the hot plate wasn't...hot. Yes, you heard me right. It was only slightly hot and the temperature dropped before I could finish cooking all the sliced beef. The beef slices are thin and the fact that all of them were still quite red on one side shows how un-hot the plate was. I didn't complain because the staff were all very nonchalant and I could make do with medium rare slices.

3) My set includes chawanmushi but I think there wasn't enough chawanmushi at that time so they served my set without it, which is fine but they should have informed me. I only realized it after a while and asked them how come the chawanmushi was left out, and the waiter said they will serve it to me later. However, nearing the end of my meal, it still hadn't come so I checked with them. After I finished my meal, it still wasn't here so I asked them about it again. We waited for about 10 mins and the chawanmushi was finally out. Even then, it wasn't very nice as the egg was really really soft, as though too much water was added or it wasn't steamed long enough.

Next to us was this guy who also repeatedly asked the staff for his sushi roll because he had waited really really long for it (I was there later than him and I also waited reallyyyy long for my food to come, and even then, my set came earlier than his sushi roll).

Because of all that I had encountered last night, I'm very sure that I will not be coming back again, at least to this outlet. Hope their management sees this and will do something to improve their standards.

This hot plate dish is my favourite and a must order dish when I visit here. Is basically generous portion of yellow thick noodles stir fried with fresh juicy pork and sweet crunchy shrimps. And it is topped with fragrant thick Japanese dark sweet sauce that make it really delicious. For the price of $10.80 is quite affordable. Restaurant is cosy and comfortable and service is quite nice and fast too.

Delicious Danish bread filling with fresh fruits and chilled ice-cream, it was an exciting taste. The dough was fluffy and chewable topping, it was perfectly matched to each other. Suitable sharing among two person, dessert always makes us happy. Generally healthy and guilt-free, it costed at $8.30.

Well firstly, expect the place to be crowded as due to its value, many large gatherings occur here and this isnt the first time I have noticed this. This time round, we witnessed a corporate dinner with about 20 Japanese beside us taking up the row of 4-5 tables.

For food, I tried one of their new offerings-- Beancurd roll with avocado and prawns. I really loved it because I love beanskin and the dish was very fresh. In fact, it reminded me of the viet fresh spring rolls. However, there fillings were not very generous as I felt like i only tasted a small piece of avocado in one of the portions.

Salad was good because the sesame sauce is super addictive. I feel like its something i can eat everyday. There were slices of teriyaki chicken and tuna mayo. =)

I guess I will go back to Watami very very soon again. =)

Hidden at a corner and a little hard to find the main door. Service is pretty slow. The chicken cutlet with egg taste good. The fun thing is that you can beat the egg and pour onto the cutlet and cook together on the stove and off the fire once the egg cook to your liking. Another one that taste not too bad is their sukiyaki. The only down side is that the pot is really shallow and no refilling of the soup. Would prefer more soup to their sukiyaki.

A portable stove is brought to the table with a small wrought iron pan containing the katsu. A raw egg is supplied and the diner adds this to the pan when it is sizzling hot so one gets a scrambled egg gravy drenching the sliced katsu. We picked the yuzu soda which was refreshing with a heaped tbsp of yuzu marmalade added to the sparkling soda.A heart and satisfying meal. For those with small appetites two set meals suffice for three persons.

Rice were well seasoned and salmons were fresh and tender. Other toppings such as fish roe, thin egg slices and seaweed slices help added flavours to the overall dish. This set comes with salad and soup too.

Instead of having a main meal at Watami, I decided to opt for dessert instead. Considered a risky move as I didn't hear any recommendation regarding dessert sold in Watami. This rice served in a hot stone bowl is definietely worth a try! tge rice is fried with garlic and the aroma of the garlic is really fragrant and this makes the rice exceptionally delicious and tasty. The pieces of beef at the top also cooked well with the piping hot rice and this dish is really delicious despite no addition of sauces. Like the sweet corn that is found in the rice.

Watami is one of the popular japanese food chains in Singapore, it used to have extremely long queues when it first opened. The Clarke Quay branch has better ambience than the one at raffles city, and you can have a good view if you get the right seats. I decided to try their baked rice this time. It was rather average, and I didn't quite like the strong tomato-paste taste. But overall a pleasant dining experience

Dip the beef into the pot for a while and then dip it into the raw egg provided.
This is how one should eat this dish as taught by one of its staff.

Cheese Tofu
Tofu is spreaded with sticky and elastic kind of cheese on top of the tofu and cut into small pieces accordingly. When you "tear" a piece out from the group of toufu, it looks yammy and u can see the "string-liked" of cheese.

Service
Will prefer their old usual Japanese style of ordering where waitress/waiter has to kneel down and take orders. This make the service outstanding. However, they dont practise this culture anymore. Good thing is that they offered seats for customer who are in the queue.

Ambience
As location is centralized, no doubt that food outlets here are packed with queues and noisy.
The seating with Singapore river view by the side is always not available. It would be great if one can dine with the river view.

Price
I dont mind to spend more on food like this. Worthy Pricing.

Recommendation / Tips
(1) Beef Sukiyaki Nabe
(2) try their fruit yakult drink
(3) Do reservation/be early to have a river view seating

Welcomed by the manager(Took 2 minutes)

We had Curry Udon While i had Curry Udon with Beef rice bowl.
We also had Bacon and Quail eggs as sides.

Nice view we got seeing the river and the lights and the few ghouls due to Halloween

Ice Water comes with no charge and was ice cold.(No Lemon)

Food Came almost the same time but fast overall. The bowls presented are BIG!

Taste:The Beef was just right with no extra fat to go with the rice

The Serving of seafood is ok 6 prawns for $15++?

The only thing happened is that my friend's quail egg went straight down his throat!

Overall we spent 45 mins and left, seeing a new staff dropping the utensils.

They changed their specialities since i last visited them but maybe i would visit again.

For dinner, we went to Watami located at The Central. There was a long queue as it was dinner time, but we decided to wait as I was craving for the salmon rice here. I ordered the hot stone pot salmon rice which costs around $10. The rice was piping hot with salmon ingredients which tasted really good. I enjoyed the meal and would come back again to try the other dishes on the menu.

I had suki yaki at Watami. I love their suki yaki as i find it pretty healthy. The only thing i dislike was that the soup was pretty sweet. You can top up the soup without charges as well. The ingredients consist of thin beef slices, tofu, mushrooms and vegetables. You can choose to eat it this way or add a bowl of rice. The beef is really fresh and tasty. Tender and succulent! I will never fail to order this.
