Satisfying Pinoy Dinner Smile Mar 27, 2013

Before my good friend goes back to Myanmar for good, I wanted her to try Filipino cuisine because she hasn't tried it YET. So, my colleagues and I met up with her after work on a Thursday and I led the way to Gerry's Grill at Cuppage, Somerset.

For a dinner crowd, it was a bit quiet, since we were there early. I took charge of ordering the dishes and I chose:

1. Shrimp sinigang
2. Chopsuey
3. Adobo rice
4. Chicharon
5. Pork Sisig

Order came quite fast. We first enjoyed a hot soup. Btw, this is very sour because the soup is tamarind based. It went quite well with the salty and crispy appetiser of chicharon as well as pork sisig. Since we wanted to have some veggie dish, we also had the chopsuey.. could've been served warmer. But anyway, it was still good.

For the desserts, we had:
1. Leche Flan
2. Halo Halo

The flan was too sweet, but the plus point was that it was very creamy. Overall, it was a good meal. My friend enjoyed the dishes and she said that they're quite similar to the food she grew up with. =D

Not so Fantastic OK Mar 25, 2013

After yoga, once again, I was starving. So I took the bus and headed to Bugis+ to treat myself to a big meal at Kung Fu Paradise.

I ordered the black pepper chicken with egg. It was just...average. The rice was a lot, so it really made me full after. There were generous chicken bits mixed with rice, too. The egg wasn't that warm.

It didn't really leave an impression after I ate there. I think if I wasn't too hungry, I would be disappointed with it.

Good and Affordable Thai Food Smile Mar 25, 2013

My friend has been having this Thai food phase for months now, so whenever we would meet up for lunch or dinner, she’d take me to a Thai restaurant. Yesterday, it was Arroy Dee. A bunch of us (6 to be more specific) had our lunch there and boy, did we order a feast!

For me, I ordered a personal Pineapple Fried Rice with Floss. It was only for $6 but it was big enough to feed 2 not so hungry pax. For sharing, my friend ordered the Garoupa fish, Pad Thai, Chicken, Mango Salad, and other rice dishes.

Hmm. My dish was well cooked. The rice was very fragrant and tasty, you could eat it without any main dishes. I also tried the fish and it was quite tender without a lot of bones. I also tried the Chicken and there was a bit of spice—just enough to add a kick to this otherwise average dish.

Overall, good food and excellent service. The staff was so attentive with what we needed. I think it's because my friend is a regular customer there. HAHA!

I have been hearing the rave about Hi Fu Mi restaurant at Plaza Sing Extension, what with their

unlimited servings of appetisers! So, I brought my friends here one Saturday afternoon to see what it was all about.

We arrived there around lunch time and surprisingly, there was no queue. Here's how it goes:
You can order any of their set meals, which is priced from $12 to $20 dollars. Quite reasonable, right, for it also includes free flow drinks plus the all-you-can eat appetisers. However, you are only given 1.5 hours to finish your food for they say that weekend is a busy day for the resto.
I had the monthly special, the chicken teriyaki with special sauce. Since we only had limited time to eat there, they were quite fast in serving our orders. But when my food came, the chicken pieces were smaller than in the photo! Haha. But the chicken was crispy outside and very tender and juicy inside. The miso soup was good—it warmed my hungry stomach!

As for the appetiser bar… it was a big disappointment. Most of the items there were cold when they should be warm. For example, the Vegetables seemed like they came from the fridge, not heated, and served right away. The cheese fondue was also very saddening for it was soo watery, it was bordering on gross.

After my first trip there, I didn’t dare go back. I just finished my meal and my friends and I left the restaurant.

Big Tenders at Popeyes OK Mar 14, 2013
Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal

Can you imagine... two of my lunch buddies haven't eaten at Popeyes, yet.

So for lunch, we brought them at the Orchard Exchange branch. I didn't mind for I always enjoy having a meal at this fast food chain. I ordered my usual 3 piece chicken tenders, side dish of mashed potato, and iced tea. If you choose ice tea, you have to add additional 20 cents.

Anyway, after I collected my order, I chose the biggest table since there were 5 of us. Unfortunately this was situated near the trash bin. Eww. While I was enjoying my crispy tenders, there was a staff who took out the trash bin and cleaned the trash. I was so paranoid that the dirt particles would go to my food! I just wished they could place their trash bin somewhere where it wouldn't bother diners.

On to the food. The tenders were huge portions. Same with the biscuit, although it wasn't as good as I remembered it to me. The mashed potato was the same-- very soft though they could've been more generous with the gravy.

Overall.. Average food.
