I've passed by this restaurant umpteen times whenever I'm at Star Vista. The only thing stopping me from trying it was the price though..a combo meal costs $9.90 and upwards. Well, the ever-resourceful bargain-hunter (yours truly) obtained a discount coupon offering the $9.90 sets at only $4.90 (till the end of the month) so tada!! I'm finally here smile

The restaurant is pretty cozy and is seldom packed - at least for now. I was given a "beeper" which will sound once your food is ready. Since there were not many customers yet as I was there quite early, the staff brought the food to me instead which was nice.

- An interesting story on the wall within the restaurant

I ordered the original combo side which came with a large serving of thick-cut fries, a huge burger and a soft drink.

- Original Combo set ($9.90)

As I unraveled the burger, I was surprised to find a large piece of pickle atop which I added into my burger. Guess that's your choice of pickle or not.

- The surprise pickle

Whoa, I loved the burger man! The bun was the fluffiest I've ever had, the 100% beef patty was tender and was just slightly pink in the middle and tasty. The tomatoes and lettuce were also very fresh. The sauce was quite delicious and did not overwhelm the ingredients within the burger so you can still taste their individual freshness. One of the juiciest burgers I've had in a long time. The pickle was really good as well. This is the first time I was ever impressed with a beef burger at a fast food restaurant - hey, that says a lot cause I'm hard to impress haha.

- Pardon the bite off the burger tongue

I also loved their fries which were thick and still had bits of potato skin at the sides of the fries. One of the best fries I've had too! The burger and fries tasted so nice on their own, I did not have to add much of the Heinz chili sauce or ketchup that is offered here.

If you are craving for a good beef burger set (well, at least from a fast food restaurant, not gourmet burgers), this is definitely the place to come! Perhaps that's why their sets are priced higher than other fast food restaurants due to the quality of their food here. If you don't mind paying a little more for the quality, do drop by!

Pricey but tasty food at TCC Smile Jul 01, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant

I'm not a coffee drinker, so I never really thought of trying out TCC. However, since it's my friend's birthday month and she's got a 50% discount as a TCC member (woohoo!) to use, so we planned our birthday treat for her here. tongue

We ordered some appetizers to share - the Buffed Up Buffalo Wings (not pictured), shrooms bite and the tuna tataki salad.

The buffalo wings were tasty and were pretty smoking hot! Being the first dish, we pounced on the wings, hence I forgot to take a photo of them LOL.

Shrooms bite was so popular among us that we ordered a second plate after our first try! The stuffed mushroom ragout within the buttery pastry was good. It's kinda rich though, so you can stop at two...

The tuna tataki was just quickly-seared so it was still oh-so-prettily pink in the middle. I didn't try it though since I don't eat raw food. I had a taste of the mesclun salad which was not bad. The dressing was quite tangy.

The Mentaiko Spaghetti w/ Salmon Tataki was really good! The mentaiko sauce was very nice and had just a hint of spiciness in it. The salmon tataki was a bit more cooked than expected (which works out fine for me actually). The sunny side up egg was also just nice with the yolk slightly runny in the middle. Simply delicious!

I had a taste from my friend's order of the Golden Enchilada Enchantment, which is a fried tortilla stuffed with wild mushrooms, spicy spinach and tofu. I think it only tasted ok, nothing too special. The taste of the spinach was a bit overwhelming.

My hubby went all out and ordered the Ribeye steak ($32). Unfortunately, for that hefty price, the steak was not good at all. His steak (an also another friend's) were over-cooked one notch above what they requested. So my hubby wanted medium but got a very well done steak instead. My friend got a medium well-done instead of a medium rare. Both of them felt the taste of the steak was not there. The breaded potato cheddar cakes were ok-tasting, but nothing fantastic. Presentation-wise, the dish looked cool. Overall though, not recommended to order this dish.

The dark devotion dessert was quite nice. The chocolate lava did ooze out from within the dark chocolate cake, which was not too sweet. If there was more lava chocolate, it would have been even nicer. The summer berries compote was quite sour - good only if you like to have a contrasting tangy taste to your chocolate.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the food offered at TCC. Pretty decent food for a coffee cafe. However, it's quite expensive - bill came up to about $20 per pax after a 50% discount.

I was invited for a pre-launch opening ceremony at 15gran. The owners are taking over this space which used to sell some cakes previously. They have now revamped the place into a casual American cafe-like setting. The owner sourced the decorations within the stall from the U.S. itself. He actually even has a really old American type of weighing scale which still works well!

- A sample menu

The cafe offers a selection of pastas, sandwiches, salads, cakes and drinks.

- Menu for the day's launch

The aglio olio prawn spaghetti was cooked till al dente with plenty of garlic and fresh prawns - quite nice. The breads used for the sandwiches were of good quality and I loved that they had walnuts in their wild rocket salad which had a tasty mustard vinaigrette dressing.

A must-try is their carrot cake. It is softer, not as dense as those offered outside. You can taste the fresh carrots and nuts used in the cake which was topped with a delicious cream cheese topping which was not too rich. The cake is also not too sweet, a really tasty and healthy carrot cake!

- Carrot cake

- Fruit tart

- White choc mousse cake

- Sandwiches, wild rocket salad, chocolate scones

I tried their coconut panna cotta which had a really nice coconut taste to it. A tiny sprig of fresh mint leaf was added atop which helped to uplift the dessert. Quite nice too.

The chocolate scones were a bit crumbly in their texture, a bit like a brownie actually. It was slightly dry but tasty nonetheless. As usual, it's not too sweet, which is good.

I also tried their House special - Lychee Mojito (without alcohol) which is a very refreshing lime-based juice with lychee juice, actual lychee fruit pieces and crushed mint leaves. Recommended if you like the tartness in your drink smile

Their signature Liege Waffles are available here too (which is the same offered at the owners' other stall, Bitesize monster at PasarBella). The waffle mix is made fresh using their own special recipe with pearl sugar. The taste is different from those outside, with the waffle being sweeter with a caramel-like taste to it.

Generally, a lot of fresh and good, quality ingredients were used in their food items which is really commendable. If the quality of the food is kept up, I'm sure this outlet will have really brisk business soon!

On my recent visit again to Tiong Bahru market, I was attracted to the bright images of the thai food at this stall. I notice that the couple manning the stall are actual Thais - so I believe their food should be pretty authentic yeah?

For a mere $4, I was impressed by the presentation and quality of their pad thai. There was plenty of ingredients and the dish was slightly sweet and spicy, quite delicious actually. Will definitely continue to try other items on their menus next time round!

Spicy Thai Food at The Star Vista Smile Jul 01, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Thai | Food Court

If you like your thai food to be really spicy, then I will recommend this stall. For this Chicken Basil Set - $6.80, you get an ample serving of delicious minced chicken with a generous amount of basil and some chopped long beans within. There's a side serving of kai lan, a fried egg and also a bowl of seafood tom yam soup - which is really quite sour, spicy and tasty. Highly recommended for a fiery meal smile
