I would say the main highlight of this buffet spread is the variety of fresh oysters. I had been there a few times for buffet dinner, on the weekend dinner, they will serve 8-9 different types of fresh oysters. My Dad and hubby enjoyed the oysters a lot. As for me, I prefer the sashimi more than the fresh oysters.

I normally don't like swordfish sashimi, as I always thought that eating swordfish is like eating a piece of lard, but not at Oscar’s. The swordfish sashimi here is really very fresh and good that I enjoy eating them. There was one night I had the opportunity to have the delectable, melt-in-the-mouth steak. It was the best beef I ever had.

The cooked food section was just normal to me, nothing special for me to review on. There is a noodle section outside the restaurant, I tried the lor mee and laksa, and both were good. I enjoy the many types of cheese as well, and the Caesar salad which is a well-known dish at Oscar’s buffet, was really great.

Another dish to highlight is the freshly baked waffle and ice-cream. The fresh and warm waffle goes so well with the ice-cream, I like the vanilla ice-cream.

Terrific Tiramisu Smile Jul 08, 2011

Categories : Bakery | Hotel | Desserts and Cakes

I have always been having strawberry shortcake for my birthday cake, as I love the light and fluffy vanilla sponge cake, creamy vanilla cream and fresh strawberries that strawberry shortcake will have. I thought this year I would be on the search for my strawberry shortcake again, but my hubby bought me a Tiramisu cake!

After the Lion King show at MBS, he turned up with a Sweet Spot cake box and told me it’s a Tiramisu cake. I was thinking, “How nice could it be… why is it not a strawberry shortcake?”

After having the Tiramisu cake, it really changed my mind. It is comparable to my love for strawberry shortcake. Sweet Spot Tiramisu cake is indeed appetizing and scrumptious! The taste was not over-whelming and it fits my love of light and fluffy cake... and this comes with the velvety light cream and cocoa powder dust.

I simply love it... now my next target - Tiramisu cake! tongue

Egg Pancakes Smile Jul 06, 2011

Categories : Coffeeshop

The name of the dish sounds so interesting to me... Is it something like hotcakes from McDonalds', or is it like roti prata with egg... That's what was in my mind when my Mum-in-law first told me about these egg pancakes.

When I get to the stall, I finally realised... oh... its like those pancake we have at pasar malam (street night market)... normally its either with peanut or coconut.... hence, I was so surprised to see the many choices of fillings... you can have chicken floss, carrot, hotdog, ham and cheese etc.

I still remember I chosed number 7 from the menu list - egg pancake with hotdog and cheese. I remembered that well because I had to get my choosy-eater nephew to repeat the number after me, so that he can tell his mum to buy for him the next time. He loves this combination as well. lol

I stood there and saw the process of the making of these pancakes. First, the seller poured the flour mixture on the pan, then she cracked a egg over it and stirred the egg on the mixture, then she put the hotdogs over and when it was about to be served, she placed the cheese over. And here it came... my number 7 pancake! It was great! I love them very much.tongue

Reasonably-priced buffet Smile Jul 03, 2011

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | Kids-Friendly

Sunday trunch priced at $23.80++ from 12nn - 4pm - this trunch was well-liked by my family. We loved all the local delights served during this trunch. I started with the tuna and cheese sandwiches, they are simple and nice. The fried beehoon and pork porridge were tasty and the fried section is being changed frequently with dishes such as squids, crabsticks, salmon skin, gyoza and different types of keropok.

The dishes are changed frequently, this means we always get to have warm dishes. There is a noodles section (lor mee or laksa) where I must praise the chef uncle. His customer service is excellent, always accommodating to our different requests such as more cockles, no beansprouts and no beancurd etc. When I asked for more cockles, he gave like half a bowl of cockles! This was not all, he would even ask how cooked the cockles I like and even ask if they are enough, if not, just come back to the counter again! He was really great! He even told my hubby, "As long as you are happy, I'm happy, then I can serve and work here happily." (something like this)

Anyway the laksa was good, the gravy was just nice. My mum had 2 bowls and my hubby had 3 bowls! They seldom take so much laksa. smile

The cakes are also great and taste even better than some of the 4 or 5 stars hotel restaurants' buffet. The dishes here are not too sweet and salty, which were appraised my parents and me. To end meal, the hot longan tea was the best. tongue

This is recommended as long as you like local food.

Great Borsch Smile Jul 03, 2011

Categories : European | Fusion | Restaurant | Seafood

The restaurant is dimly-lit and it was a restaurant good for meeting up and chatting with friends and family. People travel far to savour the steak and borsch at Shashlik. All the waiters and waitresses are matured staff who must have worked at the restaurants for years.

This was my first time to taste borsch soup and it was a very memorable one. The borsch was great, with the beef pieces inside which melt in your mouth. The warm bun with the butter was real good!

The escargots were great as well, they were soft and the garlic sauce complemented the escargots very well. The medium steak I ordered was done right and it tasted good. I find that the price of the steak might be cheaper than Jack's Place's dinner, and with the great borsch and escargots, Shashlik definitely win over Jack's Place (comparison based on dinner).
