Colonial style environment Smile Oct 26, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Café

It was the first time I get to this eating place. We are full of expectations... what is Coldbar? So, it's actually Colbar instead of the word - Cold. I would think it meant Colonial style bar. The place is decorated with the 60s or 70s' items and it makes a good environment for families with kids.

Our group ordered many dishes. Just to name some, the beef sandwich is great, the beef was tender and it goes well with the bread. The curry chicken rice was good as well, the chicken was tender and soft, its easy to manage. As for the Hokkien mee in gravy, it's normal and the sausages, mushroom and sunny side up was like homemade. I would recommend others to take the beef, the steak that my friends had was great.

Great breakfast Smile Oct 26, 2011   (Related Review)

Fish slice porridge was great, the texture of the porridge was ideal, the fish slices was fresh and good. The fried fritters (you tiao) were really delicious, it's been a long time I had such nice you tiao that I won't feel guilty after eating them. It's worth the calories intake.

The shrimp cheong fun we ordered was great too! It was smooth and not thick, some restaurants can't even get this right texture and smoothness. The warm soya bean was also good, it has a great taste. The HK milk tea is normal.

Claypot Dinner OK Oct 26, 2011
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant

We ordered Kampung chicken with Chinese sausages claypot rice, shrimp paste chicken, pork rib soup which I can't remember the name, and HK milk tea.

The fried shrimp paste chicken was good, has the appropriate shrimp paste taste. The main dish the claypot rice was so-so, the moment we stirred the rice, we kept asking why no sauce, it's not the usual black rice. Although the rice was not black enough, the chicken n mushroom n other ingredients are able to bring the savory taste out. It was good, but not the best so far.

The soup was yucky, unless you like ginger taste. It's like those sweet ginger dessert soup except it's savoury instead of sweet. It's a small bowl, $4.50 and not nice! Such a waste! The milk tea was abit too sweet for both of us as well.

Overall, I prefer their breakfast dishes than these lunch/dinner dishes.

Good Dim Sum at Orchard OK Jul 15, 2011
Categories : Teochew | Restaurant | Dim Sum

My buddy met at orchard road after our facial and we decided to go for dim sum on a weekend. This was her first time to East Ocean, as for me, I had been there a few times, as last time I used to work around that place. Although we were only two of us, we ordered quite a fair bit till the waitress told us it should be enough for two of us.

We ordered ha gao, siew mai, Fried octopus tentacles, fried seafood beancurd, fried carrot cake and char siew bao. All we ordered tasted good, but to me, it seems more pricey as compared to the other dim sum restaurants. Will be back if I am around that area and wanting to have dim sum.

Character cake Smile Jul 14, 2011
Categories : Bakery | Halal

It was my nephew's birthday and Thomas & Friends is a popular character of his age. Hence, I bought my nephew to the Polar cake stall at Hougang Mall to select his Thomas the train cake. I bought just because of his liking. I looked at the cake, and thought to myself that it must be the traditional butter cream cake. But to our surprise, we all loved the smooth and soft chocolate sponge cake and cool cream around the cake. It was unexpectedly delicious.
