Peppery chicken & beef Cry Jul 15, 2011
Categories : Sichuan | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hot Pot | Kids-Friendly

This individual pot of dish attracted us to try this restaurant. We ordered one chicken and one beef. The gravy or sauce used for both chicken and beef are similar, I would think it is the same. The sauce is "peppery" and abit to the spicy taste. The beef was disappointing, they were hard and difficult to chew. The chicken is still acceptable. I do not like the taste and will not come back again. However, my hubby had been asking me to go back to eat again... that's why we always say every individual has its own taste preferences.

Good Dim Sum at Orchard OK Jul 15, 2011
Categories : Teochew | Restaurant | Dim Sum

My buddy met at orchard road after our facial and we decided to go for dim sum on a weekend. This was her first time to East Ocean, as for me, I had been there a few times, as last time I used to work around that place. Although we were only two of us, we ordered quite a fair bit till the waitress told us it should be enough for two of us.

We ordered ha gao, siew mai, Fried octopus tentacles, fried seafood beancurd, fried carrot cake and char siew bao. All we ordered tasted good, but to me, it seems more pricey as compared to the other dim sum restaurants. Will be back if I am around that area and wanting to have dim sum.

I would say the main highlight of this buffet spread is the variety of fresh oysters. I had been there a few times for buffet dinner, on the weekend dinner, they will serve 8-9 different types of fresh oysters. My Dad and hubby enjoyed the oysters a lot. As for me, I prefer the sashimi more than the fresh oysters.

I normally don't like swordfish sashimi, as I always thought that eating swordfish is like eating a piece of lard, but not at Oscar’s. The swordfish sashimi here is really very fresh and good that I enjoy eating them. There was one night I had the opportunity to have the delectable, melt-in-the-mouth steak. It was the best beef I ever had.

The cooked food section was just normal to me, nothing special for me to review on. There is a noodle section outside the restaurant, I tried the lor mee and laksa, and both were good. I enjoy the many types of cheese as well, and the Caesar salad which is a well-known dish at Oscar’s buffet, was really great.

Another dish to highlight is the freshly baked waffle and ice-cream. The fresh and warm waffle goes so well with the ice-cream, I like the vanilla ice-cream.

Character cake Smile Jul 14, 2011

Categories : Bakery | Halal

It was my nephew's birthday and Thomas & Friends is a popular character of his age. Hence, I bought my nephew to the Polar cake stall at Hougang Mall to select his Thomas the train cake. I bought just because of his liking. I looked at the cake, and thought to myself that it must be the traditional butter cream cake. But to our surprise, we all loved the smooth and soft chocolate sponge cake and cool cream around the cake. It was unexpectedly delicious.

Traditional Trolley Dim Sum OK Jul 12, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Dim Sum

The unique selling point of this restaurant is the traditional way of sselling dim sum, which is to use a trolley to move around the restaurant shouting to potential customers the name of the dim sum on the trolley. Being the kiasu Singaporeans, you will see us walking to them rather than letting them move on to our seats.

The century egg porridge was tasty, but it can be improved to be “sticky” and as well as the portion is too small for one person to complete. The Lou Mai Kai was delicious. I especially love the jellyfish in this restaurant, it was broad and has the right texture for us to chew and swallow the jelly fishes.

The roast duck was delectable. As for desserts, the mango pudding and the egg tarts are great! Overall, it was a good place to have dim sum and the dim sum was good.
