Value for Money italian food OK Jan 31, 2013

Made a visit down to their outlet at Toa Payoh for dinner on a weekend. The restaurant was packed. In terms of ambience and decoration, it was simple and causal.

Drinks Station, where you can have free flow of drinks for just $2.80 per person. A very good deal as there is a wide variety of drinks available ranging from Cappuccino, Coffee, Tea (Earl Grey, Green Tea, Peppermint, Camomile), Lemon Barley, Orange Juice, Pepsi, Ice Lemon Tea, Mug Rootbeer, Mountain Dew to H-TWO-O!

The Oven Grilled Escargot (cooked snails) cooked in their own recipe of special garlic butter sauce. It may not be the best, but it was pretty good and yummy with the sauce. At $5.80 nett, the price isridiculously cheap affordable. (I do not know where else can one get such decent half dozen escargots at such prices!) If you have not tried this before, and do not want to burn a hole trying it out, this is the place for you. If you have been craving for esargots, this is also the place to have a quick and value-for-money escargot fix.

The Chicken Bolognese Doria is white sauce baked rice with their special recipe of chicken meat sauce. Well-executed dish with lots of creamy cheese on top complementing the baked rice at the bottom. If only more meat sauce and some meat was given. But at this price, I can't complain.

Black Pepper Chicken Steak served with corns, wedges and black pepper sauce on a hot plate. The corn was very sweet, while the wedges were a tad too soft. The chicken was decent but the oily was not drained off properly. It was saved by the black pepper sauce which was complemented it perfectly.

Dinner at Moo Smile Jan 31, 2013

Went to Moo last night to have dinner.

They are having a 1-for-1 for their main courses. Seats were available immediately when we reach, and service was pretty good.

I ordered the Kurobuta Pork and my missus had the Double Fried Buttermilk chicken. Got the Bangers and Mash for my kid.

Do note that the 1-for-1 is based on head count and not on your order. If you are paying for 2 sets and yet have only 3 pax per table, you don't get another free main.

Overall a pleasant experience and pretty nice food.

Teochew Porridge in the wee hours Smile Jan 16, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Porridge/Congee

I went there with my wife and son one and week ago after a midnight movie. Oasis has been around since 1980s when they were still in Kallang.

We reached there at 3.30 pm. The restaurant was quite empty and the restaurant staff were really efficient and we were led to a table immediately.

We ordered the following:

Lu Rou (Braised Pork)

Cai Poh Ommelette

Tou Fu with pork floss

Minced meat with salted egg

The food was excellent. Every dish was cooked well.

I especially liked the braised pork and it is our favourite dish of the four. The cai poh ommelette was well cooked too.

In terms of service, this restaurant was excellent. The food came within 5 minutes of ordering. They give a bucket of porridge which they then leave it next to your table on a trolley. There were big chunks of sweet potatoes in the porridge and it's really not advisable to gorge down on the sweet potatoes unless you don't want to finish the dishes you ordered.

The cai poh ommelette was well cooked too. Although it was a little bit burnt, as well as just a wee bit too salty, I can't really complain as it is one of the best cai poh ommelettes that I have tasted.

The waitresses were always really quick to refill our tea cups.

Total bill came up to about $40 for 3 persons. It is quite expensive but the food and the hours they are opened for business kind of makes up for it.

I especially liked the environment and feel that it is a really good place to unwind.

I will definitely visit this restaurant again.

Decently Priced Ramen  Smile Jan 16, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

I was there with my missus last saturday for dinner. Wanted some Japanese food and missus suddenly have the craving for Ramen.

Tonkotsu Ramen - I quite liked their soup. Rich and aromatic without being overly oily and doesn't gives you the "butterfly-in-your-stomach" queasy feeling. The ramen was nice and springy, and the accompanying cha su slices were quite lean and not too fatty.

Curry Cheese Ramen - it was some really light japanese curry, more like curry soup but I liked it. The 'cheese' was really a few strips of cheese in the soup.

Gyoza - Good! 6 hot little puffs of meat, cabbage and other stuff. Very nicely grilled.

Cold Cha Su - 5 slices of cold cha su on a bed of lettuce and silvers of radish with miso dressing. The combi was a bit too salty for me.

Service was quite all right, we got our food rather quickly despite it's a a saturday evening. Will probably return again.

Nothing like the original! Cry Sep 30, 2013

There was laksa craving from the missus and we headed down to United Square for the 328 Katong Laksa outlet located there.

328 Katong Laksa at the junction of Ceylon Road has always been our favourite laksa stall. The laksa base is creamy, thick and fragrant and the ingredients were always fresh. Thinking that the standard will be the same at their United Square outlet, we proceed to order 2 large bowls.
Laksa

Laksa

First look, the soup base is neither creamy not fragrant. The smell of the chili oil is quite overwhelming. The been hoon wasn't cut properly and there are many long strands in both bowls. First taste of the soup confirms our suspicions. The chili oil makes you eat your laksa properly else it will be a disaster if you happen to choke slightly.

The prawns are frozen ones and well, taste frozen.

Overall a bad experience and one outlet we will never go back to.
