Make Me Go Briyani!! Smile Mar 12, 2011

Categories : Malay | Halal

If you are in need of some spice and kick for some briyani, this is the place to go!

Hailed as the restaurant with the best briyani in singapore, this place cannot be missed when you pass by the area although it is towards the secluded part of the shop houses.

The chicken briyani comes with a pig portion of rice, the rice is unlike normal rice, it is super long grain rice, like twice the length of the normal thai rice we eat at home. you will see a burst of colours, orange, yellow and white grains! You can request for any curry to go with it, doesn't have to be the dhal which they usually provide. mmmm, the chicken is a good source of protein and it goes so well with the rice. The lady finger pachady is also another good side order!

There is also the naan with rice and chicken served with dhal. This is not briyani but if you want some naan with chicken, order this!

Now, end it with an ice cold bandung and you are good to go!

Turkish Goodness Smile Mar 12, 2011

Categories : Restaurant

This little restaurant at first would not be worth a second look until the friendly waiters usher you in and hand you the menu, there you have, turkish delights!

The starter was some sort of rolled vegetables in tomato dressing and yogurt. Beware! If you think it looks black and unappetising, it will shock you, because it is so tender and soft and so wonderfully prepared! For the main courses, ordered a baked fish and Chicken with pita bread. The fish was wonderfully tender and marinated perfectly. It's simply a joy to let the fish stay in your mouth while you enjoy the flavours and savour the tenderness. The chicken with pita was another good dish but the chicken was a tad dry. Would have preferred it with some dressing so it could go better with the pita bread.

The star of the show!! sometimes I would visit the restaurant just to eat this! It's their famous KUNAFE. The waiters will always recommend this to you because it's simply the best. Imagine, fried cheese with crushed pistachios and swimming in __. It's a dessert, so dont be deceived, the cheese isn't salty one bit. When you cut a little wedge of the round kunafe, swirl it in __, the explosion of tastes happen right in your mouth, it's throughly mind blowing, haven't quite had such a kind of dessert before. The crispy crust of the cheese with the crunchy pistachios and the flavour of the cream, it's all too wonderful to be described in words, try it to believe it! Pardon for the lack of picture for this, ate it before i snapped it. It comes with a small cup of hot tea to round off the dessert.

Try the Baklava as well, it's a sweet pastry with crushed nuts, a tad too sweet for me though! and at $12.90 for 4 pieces, it's rather expensive and I would choose Kunafe at the same price.Mains are 15-20 each.

Teh-Break OK Mar 12, 2011

The bright and beautiful decor of Darcis attracted me immediately when I walked past it with rows of macrons inside the display fridge and slices of cake in neat alignment.I could not resist the mid day urge to have a cuppa and entered the cafe and sank into the plush sofa.

Flipped through the menu and decided to order tea when the banana waffle entree seemed to be winking at me. Imagine, hot waffles with scoops of ice cream drizzled with choclate sauce accompanied with Chantilly cream, what a perfect accompaniment for a cup tea on a hot afternoon. The sweet tooth in me begged and i relented! Banana Waffles to go!

The tea was rather normal considering that I have tried many kinds of tea and I am an avid tea drinker. Could not remember the exact name but it was cheery blossom tea and somewhere along the line.

The waffle was above average and the chocolate ice cream was great. The cool vanilla ice cream had little specks of vanilla bean in it! Good ol' Vanilla ice cream and it was such a beauty! Overall a rather good dessert but definitely could be better!

Nice place if you decide to take a rest after all that walk! smile

Be Carnivorous Smile Mar 10, 2011

If you are looking for a meat devouring session, this is the classic place to go! It is a meat buffet for meat lovers!

Tucked in a corner at Chjimes, it boasts an indoor sitting area with a larger al-fresco dining area. There are over 15 kinds of different meats, from beef to lamb to chicken to fish. They even serve chicken hearts! Try the beef ribs, it scores and it is better than the pork ribs!!

There is a salad bar with fresh greens, soups and ready food. The meats are served by the waiters who come out of the kitchen at each interval to serve the meat which is skewered on a very long skewer!

So, to begin, you are presented with a tag that is double sided and which on one side says that "yes", you want the meat and the other side that says no. The server will then look at the tag and cut you a portion of the meat if it is a YES. In addition, small cheese breads are served along with 2 condiments, one that is to balance the oiliness if the meat and the other the saltiness of the meat. The meats are served regularly and you can request for a particular meat if you have been waiting for quite a while and it doesn't come the second round.

A must try is the fish. A tad salty but it is so tender and juicy, Definitely not to be missed! There is grilled pineapples which is another must try as it helps to balance out all the meatiness of the meats! and there is garlic bread too. The meats are wonderfully marinated but do eat slowly as they are all protein and you feel full easily.

End that all with a dessert, I ordered a tiramisu and a cocktail. Extremely satisfying meal with free flow of meats.

Head there today!

Cook Em on the Stone! Smile Mar 10, 2011

Hot Stones, the name tells it all!

A piece of extremely heated stone which you can cook your food on! Don't Worry, the stone can be replaced with a new one once it is deemed that it is not hot enough to cook the food.

A brilliant concept, hot stones allows you to cook the food the way you want it. Imagine choosing your beef to be rare, medium rare, medium, any way you like it to be! Ordered wagyu beef tenderloin at $88. It was expensive but it was rather good! Had the supreme seafood set that came with cod fish, scallops, slipper lobster, tuna and a huge prawn! The set came with 2 sides which you can choose from : salad, garlic rice, mashed potato and wedges. The mash and rice is a good source of carbohydrates if you are really hungry!

The best thing is that the food is extremely fresh and tasty which is evident from the taste of the seafood, the prawns were so springy, the scallops bursting with freshness and the tuna and cod fish were excellent! The important thing is to take care of the food when cooking as there is no oil involved thus the food tends to stick on the stone.

In addition, there was an additional order of half a dozen of oysters! The oysters were soaked a little with salt water and it just felt like they came right out of the sea! Brilliant with tabasco sauce and a squeeze of lemon. Perfect as a starter!

Overall, amazing food for the price but be prepared to pay a little more if you want a taste of the premium meats!

Bon Appetit!
