Fish Soup  OK Mar 21, 2011

Fish soup, the always healthier alternative for mealtimes.

Jin Hua Fish soup has been around for quite a long time. a little humble stall in Ghim Moh Hawker Centre, it serves rather good fish soup!

The fish is fresh and springy. And the soup is not overly salty. Some fish soups are overladen with salt and fried tau kee which make it unhealthy. However, this fish soup is easy on the taste buds and simple.

The elderly auntie is very pleasant and kind as well. You can opt for an additional serving of vegetables for 50 cents.

Japanese ?? Cry Mar 17, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Food Court

It is always great for a canteen to offer a wide variety of cuisines and to know that the canteen offers choices at super affordable prices. The NUS engineering canteen is the perfect answer for a good cheap meal!

The Japanese Stall is a rather new stall compared to the rest of the stalls being around for over a year or 2. However, it is really disappointing that despite the excitement that Japanese cuisine is offered in the canteen, I think I would have been better off having another chinese or muslim stall.

The Japanese food here is completely not worth mentioning. The curry rice i ordered looks rather easy on the eyes but once you got to eat it, you will start believing the other side of the story. The miso soup is weirdly sour the day I drank it and yes, once is enough and I will never buy it again. The curry weird as well and if you are looking for some serious japanese cuisine, do look some place else.

The opening promotion seems eternally there.

Brunch! OK Mar 13, 2011

Categories : Café | Pasta | Kids-Friendly

Everyone loves a lazy Sunday! So it is always time for late breakfast and early lunch and what we call brunch!

While all the surrounding shops have their shutters down, Breko is already bursting with live and energy. Think bacon, sausages, pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, a hot cuppa and there, the perfect meal!

Breko serves western breakfast and has big breakfast set to sandwiches like cheese and ham to pancakes. Each breakfast course comes with refillable coffee or tea and you can top up to make your drink into hot lattes or ice chocolate/vanilla latte.

Ordered pancakes with sausages and a fried egg. The pancakes were pretty alright and went well with the maple syrup. There were very big though and one plate is like 1.5 times a normal portion. Dunk those pancakes in syrup and spread it with jam or butter and there you go!

Ordered a brekkie in a pan which is a medley of eggs, bacon sausages and tomatoes served with toasted bread. It was rather plain and I wished there was more flavour as the bread that was supposed to be dipped into the pan seemed to have egg as the base. Wished there was cheese and some herbs or cream! ordered ice vanilla latte which tasted like sweetened fresh milk. Nothing really spectacular. But overall, a pretty alright place to go for breakfast or brunch.

Be Well! Smile Mar 12, 2011

Cedele, a familiar name which has several branches across the island and it has restaurant, bakery and cafe concepts. Stopped by to satisfy the tummy's calling for cakes!

The Mixed Fruit Pavlova never fails to attract me whenever I walk past a cedele cafe. The sheer imagination of fresh fruits atop meringue got me going. Finally, I sat down and decided to give it a try. The Pavlova was slightly above average, the fruits were really fresh but the meringue was not too bad. Had the carrot cake which tasted really good. It is one of the great cakes recommended by many! The chocolate cake was not bad too except that the cocoa powder had me choking when I first put it into my mouth.

Cedele strives for its consumers to eat well and be well by having no trans fats in the foods which is really important as all of us seek a healthy llifestyle these days. They go organic too with their breads. Sinful Desserts but half the sin gone!

Dessert Ice Cry Mar 12, 2011

Categories : Fusion | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes

Walked through the marina link and was craving for some icy cold dessert and stumbled across this shop. Had dinner already so just popped by for some dessert. The restaurant had only 2 groups of people and was rather unoccupied.

Ordered a mango shaved ice that costs about $6. Came with fresh mango and strips of coconut jelly. The taste was nothing out of the ordinary, the mango flavour in the ice was not strong enough and the coconut jelly wasn't an exact complement to the dessert. Definitely a lot to improve on the quality and flavour. The portion was extremely small for the price and it was barely enough to share.sad

They also do offer smoothies and cakes with tea and coffee and some daily specials but till a certain timing.
