Loud piped music blasting away along the corridor of Meat Smith making this place difficult to go unnoticed.

Choices of seats are available both inside and outside (along the walkway) of the restaurant.

Being our first visit, we were quite clueless on how to go about ordering the food. However, our worries were unfounded as the friendly staff was quick in guiding and explaining to us the food and how to order.

Proceed to the order counter to place order and make payment, inform the staff where you are seated and the food will be served to you shortly.

Creative messeage "Fear of change, leave it with us" written on the tip box at the order counter.

Available in the menu are starters, sides, meats and sandwiches. Meats are priced and order by per piece or per 100g which I personally feel the price is a little on the high side especially the beef rib. Having said this, the table beside us did order the beef rib and it certainly do looks yummy.

They also offer wines, beer, sodas and cocktails which are concocted at the bar counter.

Variety of sauces are also placed on each table for customers to use conveniently.

As we do not want to over fill our stomach, we ordered a starter, a side and two sandwiches.

Chicharonnes (S$5)
Deep fried smoked pork rinds. Very crunchy and it goes perfectly well with a beer.

Potato is neither too hard nor too soft. Mustard matches with the potato salad.

Brisket Sandwich (S$12)
Tender beef brisket paired with soft buns. Soft buns are a little wet making it difficult to cut if you are eating this with fork and knife.

Pulled Pork Sandwich (S$10)
Have always loved pulled pork sandwiches and this definitely never let me down. Pulled pork is tender topped with vegetable and sauce making the whole sandwich so refreshing.

The place to visit if you are looking for quality of food but be prepared to pay a little more.

The Rustic Bistro Smile Mar 21, 2015

Categories : Burgers and Sandwiches | Brunch

I have always loved their food when they had a stall at China Square foodcourt. I missed the taste so much after they ceased operation there.

I was thrilled when my friend told me their new shop is at Far East Square. Though it took me quite awhile to visit but I am glad I finally did.

Within this compact shop, is a nett priced (no GST & service charge) bistro that had been brilliantly renovated to maximize the space to house the lunch hour crowd. They even managed to have a self serve counter in a corner just besides the order taking counter.

A glance at the menu and I am immediately spoilt for choice. So many items to try but so little stomach space. They are even having lunch promo for 5 selected items priced at S$9.90 nett.

You can also top up S$3.50 nett for set meal which includes Daily Homemade Soup + Ice Lemon Tea / Lemonade for any ala carte or lunch promo order.

Finally, after a round of struggle, these are the choices today.

Vegetarian Aglio (S$9.90)
Spaghetti with seasonal vegetables & mushrooms. A healthier choice for those who like it light & simple. Spaghetti might taste a little better if cooked a few sec longer.
For the health conscious 😆😆😆

Pork Belly with 63 Degree Egg (S$15.90)
Cream sauce spaghetti with pan seared pork belly and the highlight of this dish - 63 Degree Egg! Spaghetti taste so smooth & flavourful with the egg blended in. Pork belly is also not too tough and it doesn't taste oily at all. It definitely makes you feel full with the egg, cream sauce & all.

Rustic Gourmet Burger (S$19.90)
Tender & juicy beef patty topped with the main attraction of this dish - pan seared goose liver. Goose liver is pan seared till perfection that melts in your mouth. Paired with soft buns, this burger is simply irresistable!
Fantastic combination 😍😋

I will definitely return to try out their other items.

Situated at a corner along Boon Tat Street, this little shop can be missed quite easily.

Seats are rather limited in this small shop, hence it can be quite crowded during lunch hours.

For their lunch menu, they offer Dashi Chazuke lunch sets ranging from S$12 to S$18. There is also a little surprise done by the friendly staff - cute drawings on wet wipes!

Placed on every table is the steps on how to enjoy their Dashi Chazuke. Of course the friendly staff will also let us know how to proceed when the meal is served to us.

Salmon (S$15)
Fresh salmon sashimi on rice - a little bland on its own. Suggest adding seaweed and soy sauce for more flavour.

Unagi rice is delicious, the downside of this is the teriyaki sauce is a little too salty.

2. Second Bowl - pour Dashi soup to bowl and complete to make Dashi Chazuke.
The Dashi soup complement the unagi rice perfectly. It dilutes away the saltiness in the teriyaki sauce and brings out the sweetness of the whole dish.

My first visit to this place.

At the left side of the cashier counter, is a nicely decorated cosy waiting room with built in TV to keep guests entertained.

The place has simple decoration that makes you comfortable and is spacious with sufficient seats to accommodate large crowds.

We are welcomed by friendly staff who brought us tea the moment we were seated.

Common in all Korean restaurants, complimentary appetisers will always be served.

Although this is my first visit, I do know they are quite popular for their Korean BBQ. However, this is not what we are having today.

Sundubu Jjigae - Spicy (S$18)
This soup comprises of assorted seafood and soft dubu. Dubu is Korean tofu and it is what it describes - really soft & smooth too. Though it states "spicy" but it's not that spicy at all. The best part is you can taste the freshness of the seafood in every mouthful of it.

Jap Chae (S$23)
This is Korean glass noodle, stir fried with pork and vegetables. Like the slightly chewy texture of the glass noodle, it's delicious and the pork and vegetables complement this dish.

Haemul Pajeon (S$22)
Korean pancake - a dish that I will always try when I visit Korean restaurants. Usually I will go for the Kimchi pancake but I don't see them having here. The pancake here is made from scallions and a variety of seafood. A little disappointing as it's not crispy though it do looks "burnt". Despite this, the pancake do taste quite good just that the taste of the flour is abit obvious.

Lastly, complimentary dessert was served. It is a refreshing icy drink made from Korean berries - Omija. This provides good digestion after a heavy meal.

Overall dining was pleasant with friendly, approachable and attentive staff. Just be prepared to smell like BBQ when you leave the place.😆

Saw the feature from OpenRice and decided to check out the place.

Situated in the middle of shophouses, this cafe is not really difficult to locate. For those who knows where Ka-Soh @Telok Ayer is, this is just in one of the shophouses opposite it. Just look out for No. 47.

We were greeted by friendly and attentive staff who told us that there are more seats available upstairs. We have to order our food at ground level, proceed upstairs to grab a seat and the food will be delivered to us once it's ready.

A cosy decorated corner

This is not just a cafe, they have merchandises like accessories and clothes for sale. In view of this, seats are rather limited.

As this is our first visit, we ordered what the staff recommended as their popular items.
1. Chicken & Mushroom Pie
2. Buffalo Chicken Pie

I like the buttery crust of their homemade pies. The chicken & mushroom is delicious and the taste is more widely acceptable by many. As for the buffalo chicken, it's a little spicy and taste just like buffalo wings just that it's not wings in this version.

Another popular item that was recommended is the Hello Pandan cake.
It's pandan chiffon cake with apple slices & cream in the middle. It doesn't taste as good as their pies as the chiffon cake is a little too hard.

How can we visit a cafe without ordering their beverages. So the choice for the day are hot latte & hot cocoa.
The disappointment of their hot beverages is that it's not hot enough. I guess you have to consume it immediately as it cools down real fast.
