This is my third time to L'rez and I am always amazed at how huge this place is! It is very spacious and strangely, it can get quite cold in here.

This is the menu for the day, pick an entree, a main, for $1 top up you can pick any of the hot drinks on the right column.

1. Citrus Cured Salmon Salad

I loved the pomegranate seeds, they were sweet! The salmon tasted fresh and it melted in my mouth! Overall a great way to start my lunch!

2. Parmesan-crusted Veal Scaloppini

I loved the crust and it went well with the tomato sauce. The ravioli was filled with cheesey goodness and it was hot. The asparagus was bit too stiff for my liking. The veal strangely tasted more like chicken.

All mains came with tumeric-infused rice with raisins, I couldn't really taste the tumeric, but the raisins were big and sweet and it added flavour to the rice.

3. Vanilla Creme Brulee

Creme Brulees from L'rez never fail to amaze me. It is always cooked to perfection! The ice cream on top isn't too sweet, and the crust is just thin enough for you to break it with your tea spoon. It was sweet, smooth and superb all the way through the bottom of the dish! Perfect ending to a perfect fine dining lunch set!

The cappucino and mocha were nicely presented but both lacked flavour. Tasted more like an instant coffee with too much water.

All in all, every meal at L'rez has always ended on a high note and I would love to come back to see what else these NYP students have in store for our tummies!

Located right in the heartlands of Ang Mo Kio is this new UK style Fish N Chips shop!

I was quite surprised to find this gem in my neighbourhood.

They even have a book exchange shelf whereby you can bring a book from home to exchange, an initiative by National Library Board.

The interior is very quaint and cosy with a lot of clocks displayed on the wall. The chairs are more like stools with a "half-back" support.

You can watch the barista in action and their display of chilled drinks and desserts.

And here's the menu! Not a lot to choose from, but enough to keep me coming back to try more ! I think for a week old cafe, it has decent offerings! smile

1. Murphy's Fish and Chips $16 + $1 (non oily)

So I was quite curious as to how it would taste! A non oily fish n chips, was unheard of to me! The batter was crispy, a bit too crispy for me as I had crispy bits flying all over the place as I sank my knife into the huge fish.

I did enjoy the fish, and as it didn't leave a lingering oily after taste, I happily enjoyed the fries too! Thick cut, chips, oh how I have missed you!

2. Poached Eggs with Salmon $12

I loved how this was presented. The huge slices of salmon were rolled up almost as if they were roses. The salmon tasted fresh and placed upon two perfectly well poached eggs. The hollandaise sauce wasn't overpowering so I could still taste the crusty bread.

3. Summer Berry Yogurt Tart $6.50
The cute rose on top is made of cream cheese

The shop owner told me that they get their desserts from a home bakery and this definitely tasted home made! The little flower on top was made of cream cheese and I was happy that this though looked like a blueberry cheesecake was not all cheese! #lessfattening

It wasn't too sweet, which is why I usually shun tarts but this was perfect!
So light and subtly sweet! Love it!

Check out the layers! It really tasted like yogurt and it was light and didn't make me feel gerlat! I wish they had more desserts available tonight but sadly I will have to come back to try more!

All in all, a true hidden gem in the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood. Do give them a try if you are in the area and definitely try their non oily fish and chips! It redefines the term "fried fish"!!

Ever had fried chicken wings and be able to wash your hands clean without soap? That's because these wings are not dripping in oil!

Located admist a row of hardware shops, tyres shops and motorcycle repair shops is this atas coffee shop that sells an array of western food and Two Wings is the only "local" option here. The fried chicken wings here are the real deal. The whole drumstick, wing and tip!

Glancing through the menu, their prices are reasonable, especially the cheese fries for $4.50!

We ordered the Festive Platter to share amongst 3 people, even though they recommend it for 5-6pax, and that's actually true, we barely managed to finished the platter.

1. Cheese Fries $4.50

That's alot of cheese fries for $4.50 I must say! They are generous with the cheese and mayonaise!

2. Brazilian Full Wings ($8.50 for 2)
Priced at $8.50 for 4 pieces

Priced at $8.50 for 4 pieces

These are some of the best wings I've ever had. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. A lof of chicken juices came out and I heard that it was just pure juices and NOT OIL! So we were advised to wash our hands without soap to see if our hands became clean without soap. True enough, my hands were clean! The shop staff explained that it was just the chicken juices, and not oil! You should definitely try this out!

3. Buffalo Wings

The sauce was the sweeter kind, not so spicy and it was quite oily, in comparison to the fried chicken wings. The pieces were big and juicy. I did like this, but I still prefer the fried chicken wings!

The onion rings were huge but the batter made it very starchy and gerlat. The cheese sticks had the same batter, so I didn't quite like it. Ate like one cheese stick and felt so full. The sweet potato fries were quite bland and should have a slightly more cooked exterior. The chicken tenders were very dry, as it was breast meat and I think this platter requires a bunch of dips, maybe honey mustard of mayonaise or something to keep it alive.

For the price we paid, it was a lot of food, and 3 mouths wasn't enough to finish all the food, we had to take most of it home. Nonetheless, on a saturday afternoon, it was quite airy and windy in this coffee shop and it was a good place to hang out and have a meal with friends. The chicken wings will be the talk of your gathering!!

Overly hyped chicken and waffles Cry Feb 09, 2015

You can't miss this! Coming along Victoria St.

The Beast is a pretty small shop, with a long perimeter which they use to expand their seating area. So don't expect to be seated in an air-conditioned cafe.

The interior only has bar top seating.

Here's their sunday brunch menu.

1. Bacon Maple Donut $5

I was really looking forward to this, even though this sounded so sinful. It arrived on a plate with strawberries, which were quite sour. The bacon on the top, being drenched in maple syrup tasted like bak kwa. I quite liked it. But as you bite into the donut, this is where the disappointment hits you.
Too dense, and thick.

Too dense, and thick.

It felt like I was biting into a very hard piece of cardboard. It was so hard, this donut was fried for too long and it just wasn't nice. This was quite saddening, as I had high hopes for this.

2. Fried Chicken and Waffle $20

Having tried other chicken and waffles offering in Singapore, everyone told me to try this one out as it was the most authentic? Having lived in the US for a few years. Nothing about this strikes me as authentic. Where's the coleslaw?

Okay, at least the syrup is still here with the chicken! The waffle looked so pale, when it first arrived I had thought of asking them to heat it in the waffle iron longer? The waffle looked so white!

The chicken was crispy and succulent. We had a choice between thigh and breast meat. We went for the thigh which was their more popular choice. The waffle was too light and airy, it felt like you were biting into air pocket. It was not crispy at all. Another total disappointment. This is by far the worst waffle I had every had.

I felt like I had wasted my time coming here, there's way better options in Bukit Ho Swee and Dhoby Ghaut!

Located next to Ya Kun toast in the sleepy POMO, is Montana Brew Bar. They have seating for approx 30 pax. It's not a huge place, but you can come in bigger groups of 6-8pax. Just gotta find tables and chairs.

Only opened for a short while and they're becoming well-known for their coffee.

Get to know your coffee, while waiting for your food or table! We wait for about 15 minutes, before we could find seating for 5 people.

Here's their menu for food. As you can see, most of their waffles are priced at $9.50 Nett! Pretty reasonable pricing considering, this is close to SMU, SOTA, NAFA. Students could definitely afford it.

1. Truffle Mac & Cheese Waffle $9.50

I was so keen to try this, and we were told to wait 20 minutes for all 3 waffles, which I happily waited. The wait was worth it, when they served this to us. It smelt strongly of truffle, which made me so hungry! There is indeed mac n cheese in here. Although some have feedbacked to them that it wasn't cheesy enough, and I felt the same way. I can definitely taste the macaronis, but the cheese? Nonetheless, being that this is carb-heavy, which I normally don't enjoy. I actually loved the truffle-ness of the waffle. It was crispy and yet soft on the inside because of the macaronis.

2. Matcha Strawberry Fields Waffle $9.50

Green Tea waffles! The best invention ever, two of the my favourite stuff in one dish! This was the crispiest waffle I had ever eaten. So one thumb up there! It also had a strong green tea aroma, another thumb up for this dish! The ice cream was smooth, creamy, but not too dense. The strawberries were sweet and made this dish, very instagram-worthy! I highly recommend this waffle to anyone who can only order one waffle from Montana Brew Bar!
Definitely a green tea waffle!

Definitely a green tea waffle!

The little yellow ball is a mango sphere, it is a little jelly ball of mango juice. It is slightly sour and they're so cute. They add a tinge of sourness to the sweet ice cream.

3. Southern Fried Chicken Waffle $9.50

Having walked over from another chicken and waffle place at Bugis, this dish was a totally different game here. The waffle here was so crispy, I enjoyed eating it on it's own.

The coleslaw wasn't too mayo-ey so, it doesn't feel so sinful. The chicken reminded me of KFC original recipe. It wasn't dry and it was juicy, and you could always find shred of chicken to eat with the waffle with every mouthful. Even though this is $9.50, rather than other places selling for $20. It is actually half a waffle, sliced through with chicken. So if you wanted a whole waffle with a whole chicken, you would need to order two plates of this, making it the same price. Still! at $9.50, it makes this dish more available to the huge masses of students

4. Mocha $6

I loved this mocha, it was so strong and deep. I actually rejuvenated drink it. It wasn't chocolately at all. You can just taste and smell the strong coffee presence in this drink.

So here's the 3 glorious waffles, Truffle Mac & Cheese, Matcha Strawberry Fields  and Southern Fried Chicken waffles!

Reasonably priced waffles and coffee just a short walk away from Bras Basah or Dhoby Ghaut MRT.
