Ishiyaki Unagi Rice OK Dec 29, 2010
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Had gathering @ Ichiban Boshi (Plaza Singapura) Level 6 with my friend.

Both of us ordered the Ishiyaki Unagi rice - unagi with garlic fried rice - served in hot stone bowl. Had it previously & was quite nice. However, this round @ Plaza Singapura, found the fishy taste of the unagi a tad too strong; not sure if the unagi is turning bad or?

The garlic rice smells & tasted really fragrant. Plus, being served in a hot stone bowl helped keep the rice warmer for longer period of time.

Priced @ $12.90 (before GST & service charge).

Ordered the Supreme Platter - Scallop, chicken nuggets, calamari, breaded fish & waffle fries. Great variety & value for money @ $12.90 if you are a fried food lover. The waffle fries are my favourite. Comes with special-flavored mayo as dip.

Too much fried stuff for 1 pax. Just nice for 2 pax.

Steak & Chicken Combo OK Dec 28, 2010

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

Lunch @ Jack's Place. Went for the Executive set lunch special & ordered the Steak & Chicken combo @ $17.50++. Comes with Soup of the day, garlic bread, coffee/tea & slice of cake.

Soup of the day was pumpkin soup which was better than expected though my favourite is still Cream of Mushroom. The steak was bigger & thicker compared to the grilled chicken chop. Steak was value for money. Baked potato with sour cream, bacon bits was delicious & filling. Served on hot plate so meat was sizzling hot & kept warm for longer time than other dishes served on normal plate.

Overall, value for money.

Honeymoon Dessert OK Sep 27, 2010
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

Came across Honeymoon Dessert (Man Ji in Chinese) during my Zhuhai trip in early March 2010. It originated from Hong Kong and recently set up its first branch in Vivocity, opposite Modesto at level 1. My friend and I were very excited. We visited it on 17 Sep 2010 and had its best-selling durian pancake at a whopping $4.50/pc. The pancake is filled half with durian flesh and half with cream and wrapped with a green-coloured skin - like snowskin but of a softer consistency. Taste wise, similar to what we had in Zhuhai and Hong Kong but more expensive in Singapore. The mango pancake costs $4/pc.

My friend ordered the Mango Pomelo Sago ($4 ~ $5/bowl) which was disappointing. It did not taste the same as what she had been served from the branch in Hong Kong. It seems thicker in consistency versus the Hong Kong version. We had the black sesame paste with 3 glutinous rice balls ($4 ~ $5/bowl). It was so-so.

Be prepared for long queues. Best to go just before end of lunchtime/ dinnertime as most people will adjourn there after meal times. We went there around 8pm on a Tuesday night. Managed to get a table for 4 quite quickly. Soon after we were seated, a long queue started forming.

Salmon Ninniku Wazen Set Smile Dec 31, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Just had a sumptuous lunch with my fellow colleagues @ Ichiban Boshi @ Plaza Singapura.

Ordered the Salmon Ninniku Wazen Set ($20.90++). Consists of Salmon in garlic sauce, miso soup, chawanmushi, mini unagi rice bowl, mini octopus & orange. Found the sauce for the octopus a tad sweet; salmon slice seemed much smaller than advertised menu but tastes good; love the chawanmushi, miso soup & unagi rice bowl.

One of my colleagues had the Manpuku Gozen ($19.90++) - Cooked Salmon set with mini octopus, rice, miso soup, chawanmushi, orange, 2 baked scallops. When the food came, one glance, the salmon piece seemed bigger than the one from my set but guess mine was thicker while hers though bigger piece, was thinner.
