Nice and affordable rice Smile Aug 22, 2013

Categories : Food Court

For this entire week, I was at Changi Hospital to visit a relative. The foodcourt is quite small and during lunch it is very crowded so I takeaway my lunch up the ward. This mixed vegetable rice stall has one of the longest queue during lunch time as its food is priced very affordably. An order of 2 veg + 1 meat is only $2.50. I ordered the sliced meat, steamed egg and sliced potatoes which cost $2.50. The food may not look too appetising but the taste is quite good. There is some sliced meat gravy on the rice which helps to make the rice more delicious. The portion given is good too, I didn't end up with eating just white rice towards the end of the meal. Of the three dishes, my favourite is the sliced meat. It is especially tender and the seasoning is very yummy. I could just eat rice with it as the only ingredient. The steamed egg is also tasty, but a little to the salty side. Overall, it is an affordable lunch which explains the crowd.

Affordable and tasty pasta Smile Aug 18, 2013

Categories : Italian | Hawker Centre

I came across this stall in bukit timah food centre some time ago which sells pasta. It immediately got my attention as it is quite rare to see stalls selling pasta in hawker centres. On closer look, the prices are also very reasonable from $4 onwards. I tried the Aglio-Olio pasta $5 which is pasta fried with mushrooms and bacon. The waiting time is around 10 minutes and when the pasta arrived, the portion is quite large as well. The pasta is very smooth and al dente. The sauce used for the pasta is rich and it ensured that every strand of pasta has the sauce. The mushrooms are juicy and the bacon add savouriness to the pasta. It is a very affordable and tasty pasta which I will definitely recommend you to try if you are at the food centre.

Cookies and cream Smile Aug 17, 2013

Categories : Italian | Ice Cream and Gelato

Each scoop of gelato at Gelateria Italia costs $4.90 if you only want a single flavor in a cup, and it will be $6.90 for 2 flavours. There are many many colourful choices of gelato on display and the good thing is that you can try the flavours before deciding which to get. I had tried the lychee, pistachio and cookies and cream before finally deciding on the cookies and cream. The cookies and cream flavour is milky and not too sweet. The gelato is very smooth to the taste too. There are some large cookie chunks in the gelato which gives a burst of chocolate taste when you bite into them. I thought that the gelato melts rather quickly as well, so it is best to consume it faster while it is still in its original form before it melts. For the many different choices available, there will be surely one flavour that you will like. I have already decided that the next time I am there, I will be buying the lychee flavour.

Best wanton mee Smile Aug 04, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Hawker Centre | Noodles

I have heard that this stall is very famous for its wanton mee which is why I joined in the queue even though there are around 10 people in front of me. The service is very fast though as I was able to get my bowl of noodles after around 10 minutes of queueing.

I bought the $3 portion of noodles. The noodles come with char siew, some mushrooms, vegetables and wantons. You can request for either fried or non fried wantons. I chose the fried ones and it is very crispy and the meat is juicy. The wantons are bite sized and they are great to munch on. The noodles very nice, the texture is good with some bite in them and the gravy used to season the noodles also complements the noodles well. The char siew meat is tasty too with a good mix of lean meat and fats. I wouldn't mind waiting up to 30 minutes for it!

must buy Smile Mar 02, 2013

Categories : Bakery

Whenever I go to IKEA, I will buy some of the pastries from this stall. This is quite famous and one stall which I always patronize in the past. There are many pastries and even egg tarts. I got this salted bean pastry. It is priced at $1.30. The pastry only keeps for a few days, which means it is very fresh and does not have preservatives. What I like is that the filling is just rightly saltish and the exterior is soft to the bite and the whole pastry is just very delicious. It is a must buy for me everytime!
