Chargrill chicken meal Smile Aug 15, 2013

I had dinner at Astons last week together with my sister who lives in Bishand. I ordered the Char grill chicken set at $6.90. I ordered the spaghetti and the french fries for my side which is not really a wise choice thinking about it when the food finally arrived because both are starch/carbo. I thought that the chicken seemed to have shrunk in size compared to the last time that I had it. Besides the size of the chicken, the taste remains the same, The chicken meat is still very tender and there is a nice bbq flavour from grilling the chicken. I love their french fries. I think their french fries are flavoured with some special seasoning which made it slightly spicy and tangy. I couldn't resist but to finish all of the french fries. As for the spaghetti, after I ate the fries and the chicken, I was already rather full so I didn't finish everything. The spaghetti is nice as well as they used some olive oil to toss it and that made it very tasty and smooth to eat as well.

Lunch Smile Aug 15, 2013

I am quite undecided on what to order for my lunch, so I just ordered the mixed vegetable rice as I can pick and choose the dishes that I want. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, french beans and egg tofu. As the rice seemed to be rather dry, I asked the stall helper to pour some curry sauce over my rice and I thought it was a good move as the curry sauce is surprisingly tasty with the nice fragrance of coconut milk and spiciness. The french beans are slightly greasy but otherwise it is quite tasty as well. The sweet sour pork is more towards the sweet side. I preferred it to be less sweet, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I would like it to be. Next time, I would order their curry chicken as I had enjoyed their curry a lot. My plate costs $2.70. I didn't realise there is no store photo for this stall if not I would have taken a photo of it.

Roasted meats Smile Aug 14, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Food Court | Roasted Meat

It has been some time since I had roasted meat rice, so I could not resist ordering from this roasted meat stall especially after I had seen some other customers having roasted meat rice which looked very delicious. I ordered a mix of roast duck and sio bak as I could not decide on which to have. The rice was drizzled generously with their braised gravy. I love the braised gravy, there is just something about the gravy that is very fragrant and just keeps me scooping spoons and spoons of the rice. The sio bak is a disappointment as it has far too many fatty bits and I ended up cutting most of the fats away, leaving me with very little meat. The roast duck is delicious with the tender and juicy meat. I will definitely order its roast duck rice again if I come here. This costs me $4.

Teh bing Smile Aug 14, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop

As I was feeling rather thirsty halfway through my meal and the drinks person happened to be taking own the next table's order of drinks, I decided to order a drink for myself as well. As I am already going to finish my meal, I decided to order the teh bing instead of hot teh. The teh bing costs $1.20 and the teh is really sweet if you drink it immediately without waiting for the ice to melt. After some of the ice had melted, the sweetness is more acceptable, though it is still very sweet. The taste of the sweetness comes more from the condensed milk added rather than the sugar, so the teh is really milky and sweet. It will be good for those who love their milk teas.

Pig organ soup OK Aug 14, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop | Chinese Soup

Last weekend, we went to this food centre for our dinner. We had originally wanted to eat zi char, but the queue is too long, so we ordered our dinner separately from each stall. I ordered from the pig organ soup stall and got myself a bowl of mixed pig innards and a bowl of rice. The mixed pig innards consist of pig liver, small and big intestine, stomach, lean pork meat. The intestines are well handled, there is no smell and it is quite qq. I love it with the slightly sourish and spicy chili dip. The pork liver is tough to bite and it is a let down. The soup is tasty, but it seems like it has quite a bit of msg added and I felt very thirsty after my meal. Overall, I think this is just average fare, the chili dip is the only thing that is different from other pig organ soup stall. This costs $4.
