Curry chicken w/ rice OK Sep 03, 2011

I've had the curry chicken from this stall numerous times over the years and to be completely honest, the overall quality and quantity of the curry chicken has been going downhill even though it's price has increased significantly over the years.

The curry has this thick powdery texture which actually makes the curry dry. The chicken are no longer as tender and nowadays it is tasteless. Overall it is definitely not the best curry chicken around but i often buy from them because it is convenient.

The curry chicken with add-on rice is approximately $4.50. I wouldn't recommend it but if you're really craving for curry chicken, this is the only stall that serves it in Jurong Point's Kopitiam.

Fried Toufu OK Aug 31, 2011   (Related Review)

I eat toufu regularly and will always order for toufu when I see one. Although I'm not a big fan of fried toufu, I decided to give it a try. The fried toufu's outer layer was very crispy and pretty flakey. The toufu is more of the firm kind and was not all that soft. It is best to eat the fried toufu with the sauce given b/c its pretty tasteless if you eat it without the sauce. It'd be like eating tasteless toufu with oily skin. The sauce is pretty sweet and should give a decent amount of flavouring to the toufu.

Do take note that its a pretty big serving so it won't be wise to order one whole plate of fried toufu for only 1 person.

Fried half chicken OK Aug 31, 2011   (Related Review)

My family decided to order the fried half chicken. When it was served I was pretty disappointed because the skin did look wrinkled and dry. As expected, the chicken is pretty dry but thankfully it was relatively oily, so it wasn't too hard to swallow it. Although the taste wasn't that good, the chicken did have a very nice fried chicken smell. I wouldn't recommend it but if you're looking for a simple dish, you can consider ordering the fried chicken! smile

Rendang Chicken Rice OK Aug 29, 2011   (Related Review)

I've eaten Old Town's rendang chicken rice several times but today's chicken rice was disappointing. To be fair, I was there at night, so maybe that's what that caused it to not be as good as usual.

The chicken was pretty dry unlike the usual juicy and tender chicken Old Town serves. They gave a generous amount of rendang sauce but the sauce itself was pretty dry. I really like the appalam (The yellow biscuit in the picture) that comes with it though. It is not too oily and I like the taste of it.

I was pretty disappointed but I still recommend it because it does not taste so bad on normal days and timing. It is pretty hard to find good rendang chicken rice in Singapore and I consider Old Town's rendang chicken rice one of the best in Singapore. Do give it a try! smile

Old Town is one of the restaurants I frequent in Jurong Point and the menu picture of this particular noodles will always appeal to me more than any other noodles. Although I know I'd probably be served instant noodles, I decided to give it a try.

It is springy noodles (that's what they say. it is just instant noodles) with chicken meatloaf and egg. It is probably one of the cheapest main dish you can find on their menu at a low cost of $4.20. There's an alternative that has chicken sausage instead of meatloaf (meatloaf = ham).

The soup has a very unique taste. It does not taste like those instant noodles soup. It tastes like chicken soup that is very sweet. The noodles, as expected are regular instant noodles so no big deal. Overall, the dish is pretty average, just that the soup gives it a nice smell and strong flavouring.

If you're looking for an inexpensive main dish to eat at Old Town, this might be the dish for you. It is cheap and filling but don't expect too much of tastiness out of it. It is pretty average!
