Honey chicken rice Cry Aug 10, 2011
Categories : Singaporean | Restaurant

Was looking for chicken rice to have for dinner and I decided to try Cavana's honey chicken rice. The name of the dish itself is attractive..but the way it was served certainly was not. To be fair, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover so moving on to the taste..!

The honey chicken rice consists of rice, chicken and some sort of gravy that's mixed with carrots, potatoes and onions. I don't mean to be negative but this is definitely a dish I will never try ever again. The gravy is so sticky that I can't scoop it up using my spoon and it will not stick to the chicken when I dip the chicken in. The chicken itself is dry and I didn't even taste the slightest hint of honey.

It is not that the overall taste of the dish is unacceptable. However, for a plate of chicken rice that is charged at $4+, this kind of standard is unacceptable. I definitely will not recommend anyone this dish although Cavana Express do sell other food items that taste good.

Mixed fruit tart Cry Aug 10, 2011

Delifrance offers different types of fruit tarts. The tarts generally differ only in the fruits on the tarts. The flavours they sell include: Peach fruit tart, strawberry fruit tart, mixed fruit tart etc.

I decided to try their mixed fruit tart for my brunch. The size of the fruit tart is relatively big, which also contributes to the expensive price of the fruit tart (Its $3.30 for one). The crust can be easily broken off however lacks of taste. In between the crust and the fruits is a thick layer of custard that's relatively sweet. It is then topped off with 2 pieces of peach, a slice of kiwi and strawberry. The fruits are pretty fresh but the strawberry is sour instead of sweet.

Overall, the fruit tart was all right but I will not try it again as its not worth the high price. To be fair to delifrance, I have a sweet tooth so I generally dislike things that are not sweet therefore did not enjoy their fruit tart.

Big Mac Cry Aug 10, 2011   (Related Review)

I was craving for beef so I decided to have a big mac for dinner! The big mac is filled with 3 layers of bread, 2 layers of beef, 2 pieces of cheese and lots of lettuce. It has been some time since I last had big mac and when I ate it today, I was disappointed. The beef was too small (When compared to the bread) and too dry. The cheese was the only good thing about the burger. sad

Was not a good dining experience but I'd give it a try again next time at another McDonald's outlet. Hopefully it will not be as bad.

Sesame Rice Munchies Cry Aug 07, 2011   (Related Review)

This is Long John Silver's new item! Sesame Rice Munchies! A perfect snack to snack on..according to Long John Silver's. Its $1.90 for 3 or $3.00 for 5. Its basically glutinous rice mixed with sesame seeds then fried. The rice smell was too strong for me on the first bite and my immediate verdict was that it was not good. However, the rice smell subsided after a while and I could taste the sesame. Even though so, its the similar case for every single bite. I even tried dipping this munchies in cheese to cover the overwhelming rice smell.

Its just not the snack for me but it can be suitable for people who like glutinous rice and its a pretty inexpensive fried snack smile

Spending per head: Approximately $1.90

Curry chicken chop OK Sep 14, 2012

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

This restaurant is opened not long ago, replacing the Jia Xiang Mee in Jurong Point. The menu mainly lists the food items with minimal visual aids. Didn't know what to expect when I ordered for the curry chicken chop.

Unexpectedly, its just a bowl of rice with a bowl of curry. The curry is pretty diluted and tastes similar to local curry. The potatoes used were pretty powdery, the ones that I dislike. However, the chicken was coated with a certain kind of flour which I like before fried. To many it may be salty but I really like the taste of the chicken. Also, it went well with the curry.

It was filling but definitely not too satisfying. It has very little meat and personally I really didn't like the curry taste along with my rice. It costs $7 for this excluding the taxes. Also, do take note that they charge for their plain water (30 or 50 cents, can't remember accurately)
