Paiku Ramen @ Ajisen Cry Sep 04, 2011

My mother and i decided to grab lunch at ajisen. I was craving for some ramen but considering i don't like seafood or pork and their ramen are either seafood or pork, i wasn't all that thrilled to see their menu.

I ordered for the paiku ramen, which costs $11.00. You can add on a couple of dollars to have a side dish. The staff were very thoughtful and had automatically served the paiku ramen with a small bowl. I took the paiku (pork ribs) immediately after it was served.

I loved the fried layer of the pork ribs which was slightly salty. The pork rib itself is very dry and hard (probably visible from the picture). To make matters worse, the ramen wasn't like normal. The was kind of overcooked so it tastes like some cheap ramen. The soup was good though.

I definitely didn't like it and didn't find it worth the money. I definitely will NOT recommend anyone wasting their money on this ramen. All it does is fill you up with dissatisfaction.

Black pepper rice Cry Sep 03, 2011   (Related Review)

This is the first time i'm trying the black pepper rice add-on that costs $1.60. It is a pretty smaller serving..and they packed it in a round container that is probably only thrice the size of the cheese container they use for takeaways.

The rice is topped off with a thick layer of black pepper sauce. I definitely did not like the black pepper sauce. It had a very strong black pepper taste to the extent that not only was it slightly spicy for the lips, it was actually bitter. I had to scoop out the top layer and just eat the normal rice.

I think it'll probably depend on personal preference as to whether one will like it or not. Personally, although I do like black pepper, this is too heavy on black pepper for my liking sad

Spending per head: Approximately $1.60(Dinner)

Soft Shell Crab Cry Aug 31, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Buffet | Kids-Friendly

It was my first time dining at Minori and I decided to try their soft shell crab. The soft shell crab was pretty disappointing. It was a little too dry for my liking and didn't taste fresh. The soft shell crab was very weak tasting so it was kind of like eating tasteless meat covered with oily crusts. Out of so many Japanese restaurants' soft shell crabs I've tried, this definitely wasn't the best.

Steamed Pork Dumpling Cry Aug 30, 2011   (Related Review)

I love xiao long bao and normally people would tell me that Din Tai Fung's steamed pork dumplings are good..which is something I don't get because I tried it for the second time today and it is just as terrible as the first time I had it.

The xiao long bao is ridiculously small and unlike most xiao long bao, there is such a small amount of soup in the xiao long bao that when I bite into it, it won't even flow out or scald my tongue. Also, the soup has a sweet taste but the flavour is way too weak for a xiao long bao. The pork however, is very fine, and taste like any other average xiao long bao's pork.

The only positive thing I have to say about their xiao long bao is the way they serve it. The xiao long baos are placed on a white piece of wet cloth, which will not allow the xiao long bao to stick to it. Most restaurants' xiao long bao will stick to the aluminium foil or paper or cloth they use for their xiao long bao.

As a xiao long bao enthuiast, considering they are charging 10 pieces for $9.00 or 6 pieces for $6.50, I'd say it is totally not worth it as there are many better and cheaper xiao long bao out there. I will not recommend it to anyone.

Spending per head: Approximately $9.00

Eclair Cry Aug 24, 2011   (Related Review)

This is my first time trying the eclair from Four Leaves. It is a relatively big eclair for a low cost of $1.50. Although it does look appealing, it didn't taste as good. The chocolate topping isn't sweet and it is slightly bitter but it doesn't taste like dark chocolate. They used chocolate cream for the eclair but the cream is tasteless. Considering they I do not like bitter chocolate or tasteless cream, this eclair was a combination of stuff I don't like.

Although cheap, I wouldn't buy it again.
