Chicken Char Siew Smile Aug 16, 2011   (Related Review)

This is an exclusive dish which is not on Menichi's menu. You can only try it by redeeming it for free after having collected a number of reward stamps (spend over $20 for each stamp) at Wadori, Ichiban Sushi, or Menichi itself.

I'd normally expect char siew to be dry but Menichi's char siew was moist! It was topped off with some kind of sweet sauce that complemented the char siew very well. Additionally, there are fresh vegetables that are perfect for wrapping the chicken then eating it! It goes well together so do try eating it that way if you happen to try the dish! smile

Wafu Chicken Katsu Ramen Smile Aug 16, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

I visit Menichi regularly and I just love their side dishes but I decided to give their ramen a try. I tried their Wafu Chicken Katsu Ramen and was really pleased with the fact that the restaurant were very thoughtful. There was an explanation of the word "wafu" in their menu, which certainly helped me when deciding which ramen to try (They explained what tonkotsu and etc meant too in the menu)

The chicken cutlet was thrice the size I thought it would be (They seriously gave me a whole piece of chicken cutlet). It was tender but not really juicy? I didn't really like the chicken cutlet because it lacked of taste but my sister loved it with the sauce that had a sour taste. We don't know the name of the sauce but its similar to McDonald's bbq sauce.

The noodle itself is fine and springy. Pretty average standard. The soup, however, is the unique part of the dish. Normally whenever I eat Japanese ramen, they are tonkotsu soup. This wafu ramen however, has a chicken and seafood soup base that is added with soy sauce to create a tangy and savoury flavour. It has a special taste and its a definite must-try soup. The ramen is topped off with a piece of seaweed and Ajitsuke Tamago (Seasoned Boiled Egg). The egg is absolutely tasty. The outer layer of the egg is cooked while the parts nearing the egg yolk and egg yolk itself are half cooked. I love half-cooked eggs so it was just the kind I love.

Overall, it was delicious and worth the money! By the way, the dish actually has vegetables and bean sprouts but I requested for them to be excluded. Additionally, you can ask for noodles upsize for...FREE! They'll give you 20% more noodles (As seen in picture above).

Spending per head: Approximately $12.90(Lunch)

Chicken Wing Smile Aug 10, 2011   (Related Review)

Whenever I'm craving for fried chicken wings, I'll definitely purchase it from Old Chang Kee. By buying from Old Chang Kee, I don't have to worry about purchasing dry chicken wings that are hard to chew and swallow.

The fried chicken wings served at Old Chang Kee are juicy, crispy and tender. All of that at an affordable price of $1+. It is also perfect to go with rice.

Curry Puff Smile Aug 10, 2011

The curry puff is probably the most well known signature dish of Old Chang Kee. The curry puff consists of generous fillings of egg, chicken and potatoes. It has a crispy texture although often the crust of the curry puff is too thick and the flour taste overpowers the nice smell of curry puff.

Its a relatively filling item to have for breakfast at a low price of $1.20,

McNuggets! Smile Aug 10, 2011   (Related Review)

McDonald's chicken nuggets is the ultimate food for me to eat while I'm on the go. Normally the nuggets meal consists of 6 pieces of nuggets that are relatively small. They each can be finished within 2 bites.

The nuggets can be eaten without any sauce, which is pretty plain but at least there is a nice chicken smell. I normally dip them in curry sauce. The sauce complements the nuggets well especially when the chicken is too dry.

Students can purchase a set of nuggets meal at $4.50 while non-students can do the same from 12pm to 3pm during McDonald's Mclunch promotion. Do give it a try!

Spending per head: Approximately $4.50(Lunch)
