Potato croquette Smile Jan 29, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

I'm a regular customer of Men-ichi but was trying the potato croquette for the first time recently. The potato croquette is deep fried and the outer layer is very thin and crispy. It is relatively oily so I didn't really like it. The potato insides are just-nicely fried. Its very soft and moist and carries a taste of some kind of sauce that Menichi uses for their eggs. I tried wrapping the croquette with the vegetable and its actually even better with the vegetable. It reduces the focus on the oil and more on the water in the vegetable. A good side dish for those who like potatoes at a low cost of $2.10. I'd recommend it.

Spending per head: Approximately $2.10

Fish in tomato cream sauce Smile Jan 29, 2012

Categories : Restaurant | Pasta

Decided to try the fish in tomato cream sauce pasta for the first time. The fried fish fillet is crispy and honestly a little too oily on the outer layer. However, the meat is well cooked and carries a sweet fish taste. Additionally, it wasn't too dry. The pasta as usual was well cooked and was topped off with a unique blend of tangy pomodoro and white cream sauces. I liked the blend of sauces. The taste of the white sauce isn't that distinct when mixed with pomodoro sauce but it reduces the strong tomato taste of pomodoro that makes pomodoro sauce easy to get sick of. Overall, it had the perfect combination of food and its definitely my favourite pasta from Pizza Hut so far. Will definitely have it again the next time I'm there.

Gyozas Smile Jan 29, 2012

I decided to eat the gyozas from Wadori as a quick snack. Its $1.60 per stick and each stick has 3 deep fried gyozas. Since its deep fried gyoza, I expected it to be dry. Surprisingly, the insides of the gyoza was relatively moist and the juice was sweet. Anyway, until now I'm not too sure what kind of meat is inside the gyoza. I tried it twice and the first time it tasted like pork but the second time I think there were partly shrimps/prawns inside. The meat is moist too. The outer layer skin was thin and crispy. Overall it was a perfect quick snack.

Mixed fruit size Smile Jan 29, 2012

Decided to try the mixed fruit cake from Angie the Choice. The cake itself, as usual, is soft and moist. It was sweet and carried a light peach flavour. In between the cake were slices of peach and whipped cream. Cake was topped off with more whipped cream and some coloured cream which didn't carry any particular taste/weak taste. I personally like the whipped cream from Angie b/c it is sweet but not too sweet. Also, it doesn't leave the oily feeling on your lips after eating it.

It costs $2.80 and I'd definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a fruity but not heavy on sweetness cake.

Tonkotsu Ramen Smile Nov 22, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Kids-Friendly

I've always wondered how those packet Japanese ramen tastes like and I finally decided to give it a try. It was unexpectedly good and the noodles surprised me. It tastes just like the ones those Japanese restaurants serve. The flavour I had was Tonkotsu (pork ~) with sesame oil. The tonkotsu soup was slightly salty but actually had a unique taste and as seen, the soup was very thick. I'm not a big fan of sesame oil but it tastes fine with the tonkotsu soup. However, I'd rather not put it in next time.

It takes only 5 minutes or so to cook (the same way you cook instant noodles) and tastes similar to ramen served in typical Singapore Japanese restaurants. Costs only $5.50 for 2 servings. Its much cheaper and faster serving time as compared to Jap restaurants lol why not?

Spending per head: Approximately $5.50
