Great Nasi Ayam Smile Oct 18, 2011

Nasi Ayam

Nasi Ayam

Normally, I tend not to buy Malay Chicken Rice as I find the chicken rather dry and tough.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by this Masi Ayam at the Pasir Panjang Fodd Centre.
The chicken was well-flavoured, moist and tender and it came with a generous bowl of soup. The soup had a fair amount of beansprouts but was a bit too salty. The chilli accompanying the rice was more of like duck rice chilli, but it still went well with the chicken.

A good alternative to our standard Hainanese chicken rice smile

Fried Hokkien Mee Smile Oct 13, 2011

I am surprised that no one has reviewed this yummy Fried Hokkien Mee yet!

Well, for starters, this stall had a long queue when I went late afternoon one Saturday. This surely must be a good sign that the food is good or reasonably priced, and it did not disappoint.

The stock used to cook this was thick and redolent of prawns. They were generous with the pork and prawns and the sambal was delicious tongue
It was a huge plate of scrumptious noodles for $3 so it was well-worth the queue smile

Fried Rice with Tofu, Egg and Fries

Fried Rice with Tofu, Egg and Fries

When I think of Western food in hawker centres, it's always fried and greasy with a substantial amount of gravy to compensate for the taste of food.

So it was to my surprise that there was a Western food stall that served a healthier Tofu side, albeit being fried. The Fried Rice actually came with Chicken Nuggets but I replaced it with the Tofu option without extra charge.

The Rice was tasty, well-fried with ham and in a generous portion. The Egg was not too greasy and was done just the way I like it - not runny but just set. There were some Fries too which completed this Western dish.

Too much carbo here and they would do well if they included some slices of cucumber, tomatoes or lettuce to add some greens.

Great Cheese Naan

Great Cheese Naan

I have a weak spot for North Indian cuisine and what better way to whet one's appetite than to have a freshly made Naan out of the tandoor oven tongue

The cook was very generous with the Cheese in the Naan and it was a bit like eating pizza with all the cheesy strings as you tear and pull the Naan.

The Potato Masala had Eggplant in it and was a gorgeus blend of spices. The tomatoey curry was superb as a dip with the smoky Naan.

YUM tongue I cannot wait to try the other Naans and side dishes of this stall...

Tea Time! Smile Oct 04, 2011

When a food establishment has been around so long like Bakerzin, you would expect them to constantly improve and invent to cater to the fickle tastebuds of the food masses. They do have tried and tested recipes like their macarons and souffles but their savoury items are a bit of a hit-and-miss affair.

Desserts has been maintained at a constant quality and taste to please sweet-toothed customers and the following cakes reviewed attest to that.

The Strawberry Shortcake that I had was very soft, fluffy, light and well-presented. A pleasant prelude to a dinner that will follow some hours later.

The Mango Mousse, though it tasted ok, was a bit 'tough' in texture. I think they overdid the gelatine that day. The top layer of cake was a bit hard to slice through so it was an exercise eating the cake in a neat manner.
