Once Upon a Birthday Meal... OK Sep 06, 2011

My friend and I visited Pizza Hut for his birthday. Overall, it was a good dining experience. The staff were very polite and friendly, and our food arrived rather quickly as well.

We ordered the Hut Platter for $13.90. It came with ebi tempura, calamari rings, chicken drumlets, and waffle fries. I was a little disappointed with this platter. The Calamari rings were rather hard, so I didn't enjoy them too much. The batter for the tempura was a little too thick, and the waffle fries were rather bland. They tasted only of oil. The only thing I enjoyed was the chicken drumlet. The marinade was really good - it was combination of salty and sweet. The Platter came with a mildy spicy sweet and sour dip as well. i think $13.90 was a bit too much to pay for a platter that didn't taste that great.

I decided to get the Chicken Royale Baked Pasta student meal for $8.90. It came with the soup of the day, Chicken Vegetable Soup, and free flow of pepsi.
For the price and the amount of food I got, I think the price wasn't too bad. The taste of the food however, was not as good as the price.
The Chicken Vegetable Soup was rather bland. They tried to cover it up by adding more pepper in the soup, but I don't like it when my soup is too peppery. The ingredients were scarce as there were hardly any vegetables or chicken in there.
The Chicken Royale pasta wasn't too shabby. It was rather creamy, so I do advise people who do not like creamy dishes to choose something else. The Mushrooms and the Pineapples were great compliments to the creaminess. The chicken was a little bit too dry, but generally, the dish itself was alright. The cheese was baked to perfection as it was nice and stringy. A good one for cheese and cream lovers.

My friend ordered Supreme Supreme Personal Pizza Student Meal for $7.90. He said it tasted fine, but I thought the portion size was rather pathetic. If you don't eat alot, this meal would be great for you, otherwise, I suggest picking the baked pasta if you're going for the student meals. It is $1 more, but I think the value you get for you money is greater.

To break it down, It was an enjoyable experience as the service and environment was good. The food wasn't bad either, but if you're someone who rarely has the chance to eat at restaurants, I suggest you save your money and spend it somewhere with much better food.

I went there with a friend to get him a Oreo Cheesecake for $5.20. I did not try it myself, but he liked it a lot. According to him, it wasn't too cheesy or sweet, which he enjoyed.

I got myself a slice of Strawberry Shortcake for $6. The price was quite expensive for a small piece of cake. I'm not sure that I'll be buying cakes from them too often.

Overall, the taste wasn't bad, but neither was it fantastic. I must confess that this is only my second time having strawberry shortcake in my life. It did not beat the very first strawberry shortcake I had.

The cake was soft and fluffy, so I give it a 5 for texture. Their cream was at a good amount, not too much nor too little, but it was a little bland. The strawberries were quite sour. I think their cake is suited more for someone who doesn't like anything too sweet.

Presentation was great. Simple yet enticing design. The little brown square you see is not chocolate, unfortunately. It took me a taste of it, to realize this. Ha...Ha.....

Service was also good! The lady behind the counter was very nice and accommodating.

Although not a mind blowing gastronomic experience, it was a pleasant experience to be able to try one of their cakes.

More like Sub-par Cry Sep 04, 2011

I happened to be having sandwich cravings that day and so decided to take a trip down to subway.

I ordered a 6-inch Tuna Sandwich. Just the sandwich and it cost me around $5.50.

The tuna sandwich did not satisfy my cravings at all. I'm used to the American style of 3 full scoops of tuna on the bread, but over at this local Subway, they only stuff in one scoop of tuna and spread it around like you would do with jam. Result? Complete failure. I could barely taste my tuna and felt like I was eating plain bread with vegetables in it. Also, they ran out of bread and only had 2 choices left. I think this is something management should work on. The bread was also hard and dry. sad

To make things worse, the service was bad. The staff did not seem happy to be there at all.

Lastly, to touch on price, I don't think it's worth paying $5.50 for a sandwich as pathetic as the one I had. Or really, for any plain old classic sandwich for that matter. I think you might as well go to the grocery store, buy the ingredients, and make your own sandwich. Sure, it might be more work, but the value is there. Personally, I think it's ridiculous to be paying so much for a simple sandwich, when you can get Chicken Rice for much less. And Chicken Rice involves so much more work to produce. However, I think this is a problem that is rampant nationwide, not just for subway. Salad and sandwiches are made to seem like high-class food and come with equally high-class prices.

Also, they had some broken furniture which was quite a safety-hazard, but yet nothing was done to fix it.

So if you still really enjoy Subway and don't mind the hefty price, I highly recommend going to the other outlets. You can skip this one and will not be missing out on much.

Seafood Kitchen Swimming in Oil OK Sep 03, 2011

I've only had their Pineapple Fried Rice for $4.

In my opinion, a little pricey for fried rice and especially one as this that isn't so great.

The good thing is they are quite generous in terms of their overall portions.

The bad thing about the fried rice is that it was way too oily. There was also a lot of yellow coloring. After finishing my food, my plastic spoon had turned shiny and yellow from the oil and coloring. Also, I must admit that I'm not much of Fried Rice fan. After a little bit, I tend to feel sick. This one was no exception, especially with all the oil. This why I really only eat Pineapple Fried Rice. Something about the Pineapple's sweet and sour flavors really offsets the heaviness that comes with fried rice. Unfortunately, this stall's fried rice was lacking in chunky juicy pineapples. They cut theirs into really small pieces, so it seemed like there was a lot, but then because they were so small, there wasn't much to bite into.

If you happen to be there, I suggest trying something other than their fried rice. Hopefully the other dishes are better.

This is a great place to go for supper! My friends and I frequent Rochor Beancurd for their Beancurd of course!

Their Beancurd is one of the best I've ever had. The texture is so smooth. I didn't know it was possible for a place to make it this smooth. And the sweetness is just right. I like sweet treats, but when they are too sweet, you can get sick of it really quickly. Too much of a good thing can get bad. But Rochor Beancurd really hits a good balance in its sweetness. Sweet enough to melt your tongue, but not too sweet to make you want to stop.

I really only like the hot one. The cold one just isn't too my taste. I feel that you don't taste the flavours as much with the cold one. Also, I find it strange to eat beancurd with you tiao, but alot of people seem to enjoy that. Also, it's only $1 Awesome food at an even awesomer price makes me real happysmile

Their soy milk is equally good. The texture is great- not grainy at all. Sweetness is perfect as well. $1

I decided to try their Egg Tart recently and.....was disappointed. sad
The filling was so-so, it wasn't that tasy but what was really bad was the texture. It was hard. I think it might have been the fact that it was not freshly baked, but nonetheless I expected better. Alot more expensive as well. $1.40

So overall, definitely recommend going to Rochor Beancurd for only their Beancurd and Soy Milk. But you might want to skip their egg tarts.
