Best tarts in Singapore? OK Jul 23, 2013
Categories : Bakery | Café | Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

I have heard many people raving about how good Drips Bakery fruit tart is so i decided to try it on my own. I took away this Cinnamon Pear Tart as it looks very pretty and unique. Taste wise, i cannot detect any cinnamon fragrance and the pear used was grainy and dry in texture. I would prefer the layer of frangipane below the fruits to be thicker as it was so thin that it doesn't contribute much texture nor flavour to the tart. Nevertheless, the tart base is good as it was not too sweet and remain crispy even with the fruits on top.

I think i will still give the other flavour of their fruit tarts a try before laying any judgment too soon.

Signature Seafood Paella Smile Jul 23, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : European | Paella

Le Patio signature Seafood Paella Rice ($11.90) is a hot favourite in Pasarbella and I don't see why not. Served in a environmental friendly paper box, the portion is substantial. The paella comes with tiger prawns, fish, chicken, mussles and baby squid, justifying its price. The rice was soft yet not mushy and every grain was fully infused with umami taste from the broth they prepared. To summarise the paella in one word - FLAVOURFUL. tongue

Homely dishes Smile Jul 23, 2013

Grandma's is famous for their Nasi Lemak which my mom loves so much she has been constantly bugging me to bring her to eat it after I introduced to her months ago. I finally found time to bring her over to Grnadma's again last week. This time round, beside their Nasi Lemak ($8.90++), I ordered a Spinach Tofu ($12.90++) as I had loved this dish in other restaurants.

Grandma's version has impressed me with its appetizing sauce and soft juicy tofu with a crispy yet not oily exterior. The dish is generously covered with mushroom and paired with blanched spinach which is both my favourite. I am sure I can polish 2 bowls of rice with this dish alone.

Thought the price can be on the high side, I really like Grandma's for their food has such a homely feel and taste.

Xiao Long Bao worthy of the hype Smile Jul 16, 2013

There is almost always a long queue at Paradise Dynasty ION. Joining the frenzy, my friends and i went to taste their signature 8 flavour xiao long bao (pork dumplings). The flavours include Original, Garlic, Ginseng, Foie Gras, Black Truffle, Cheese, Crab Roe, and Szechuan. The basket of xiao long bao looks so delicious with a appealing range of colours for each flavour.

Tastewise, the dumplings are juicy, the meat are really fresh and the skin is not too thick. My vote goes to garlic and cheese as i like the additional touch of innovation and fragrance to the otherwise ordinary dumplings. The ginseng and szechuan are too exotic to my tastebud while the remaining flavours are too mild to taste.

We also order the radish pastry as i thought it is quite rare in Singapore. I am glad we did as the taste is fantastic! The pastry is so flaky and light that it literally melt in your mouth. The radish filling inside is flavourful and moist with a slight crunch. I love this so much and will definitely order it again!mad

soft and sweet treats OK May 26, 2013

Categories : Bakery

Wonder buns has a wide variety of flavour of buns to choose from. I had a Banana wonder bun and it doesn't give me much satisfaction. The bananas placed on top of the bun give the bread natural sweetness and moistness. However, the banana slices on top of the bun was too thin to give the bun any banana taste and moistness. The bun was also quite small and it was rather expensive being priced at $1.50. Quite disappointed with it. I think it might be better to choose their cream cheese flavoured types as i can see a nice dollop of cream cheese placed on top of the buns.
