Chocolate Indulgence Smile May 19, 2013

Chocolate Indulgence
Feeling down? Or you just want to celebrate? One slice of this chocolate and white chocolate-filled decadent cake is the solution. It is for those who love semi-sweet chocolates. You will love every morsel. This is an absolute comfort food. At $5.50 per slice, it is worth giving it a try.

Thai Seafood Spaghetti
I had ordered this for my daughter. Though there was an indication of only one chilli on the menu for this dish (all spicy dishes are indicated by either 1, 2 or 3 chillies with 1 being the least spicy), this was too spicy even for someone like me who has a lot of tolerance for spicy food. I have tasted dishes that are indicated by 3 chillies, but this was misleading. Furthermore, the spaghetti was under-cooked. It had a floury taste. I highlighted this to the waitress but was told that there was nothing she could do. I then requested for cheese, which was eventually given to me. Despite that, my poor girl could not digest the food. Sigh... wasted $13.90.

Please note that the ratings I have given here is based on the taste of the cake.

Authentic Indian Food Smile May 17, 2013

One can be overwhelmed by the influx of diners to this restaurant. You can get the best non-vegetarian Indian food here. There is a choice of set meals and a la carte. The waiting time to be seated during lunch hours is five to ten minutes. The waiters can be very busy during such times, so you might have to send reminders for your food items, should they be delayed. But, when they serve you, they serve you.

I ordered white rice with prawn masala, cuttlefish masala and fish cutlet. The vegetables served with the meals are cabbage and long beans. Though this can vary according to the days. You can choose from a variety of gravy - from sambar to chicken. I prefer fish curry. The combination is just superb! The masala in the prawn gives the oomph.

If you cannot tolerate spicy food, give this place a miss, at your loss.

Tasty Laksa Smile May 17, 2013

Lime juice and watermelon juice
Lime juice was refreshing with its sweet and sour taste.
Watermelon juice tasted more like lime juice. You do not get pure watermelon juice.

Prawn Toast
They are nice and crispy. I wonder if they do not get complains about the excessive oil on the toast. You can eat just 1 slice, that is, if you are not health-conscious.

Sweet Glutinous Rice with Fresh Mango and Coconut Milk
This is a must have for me when I dine at any Thai restaurants. I've tasted this at other Thai Express outlets. I noticed that the taste is not consistent. The presentation has changed. They used to serve the mango on warm glutinous rice with a generous serving of coconut milk poured over them. However, this one was lacking the coconut milk. We had to ask for more of it. The mango was not ripe enough.

Laksa Noodle
This was awesommmmmme! Just one spoonful of the gravy was enough for me to fall in love with it! It was coconutty, rich in flavour, fragrant, spicy and above all delicious! You can hear yourself saying 'kob khun ka'.

Phat Thai Talay
Thai Seafood Noodle which tasted like Indian Mee Goreng. This is a spicy dish. The flavours dance in your mouth. This is yummy!

Though they forgot to serve my poor, hungry daughter her dish (which she got after a reminder), the staff is generally friendly and efficient. The price, however, is quite steep. A glass of plain water is free no more. You have to purchase your drinks.

Indonesian Smile May 17, 2013
Categories : Indonesian | Restaurant

It was my husband's birthday. We wanted to dine out for dinner and choose an Indonesian restaurant nearer to my place. Answer to that was Tambuah Mas.

It was a Thursday. The stretch outside Tanglin Shopping Centre was quite deserted. The exterior and interior of the restaurant was seemly. They do not have an extensive menu but you can get all the other regular dishes.

Buah Belinjau Chips and flour coated fried peanuts
We were served belinjau chips (slightly bitterly tasting) and peanuts for starters. Some of the chips were not crispy. Nevertheless, that did not stop us from munching and finishing them in no time. Yes, they were replenished.

Our food was served in less than five minutes after we had placed our order. Hmm... good or bad? All they had to do was to reheat and serve us?

We celebrated the birthday in an unconventional way - candle on tahu telur.
Chunky pieces of crispy tofu topped with shredded cucumber. This serving was more than sufficient for five of us.

Perkedel Kentang / Potato Cutlet
It was quite dry and cold. It should have been more moist with crispy bits of onions and chilli.

Beef Rendang
I did not mention another reason for selecting Tambuah Mas, did I? It is this dish, Rendang, which I had enjoyed and loved when I had it at Tambuah Mas, Marina Square some years back. That outlet has since been closed down.
I was expecting the same or at least something close to that taste. The dish was dry (I presume it was due to overheating). The coconut milk and kerisik kelapa/coconut paste should give a signature taste and aroma to the dish. Well, well... I was disappointed sad
I am still sourcing for THAT rendang dish that would leave me yearning for more.

Sambal Belacan
This was a bomb! Try this only if your tolerance level to chilli is 6 and above on the scale of 1-10.

Chendol
Ordinary tasting.

Dining at Tambuah Mas was quite a pleasant experience. The service is good. Pricing of food is reasonable. Can go once.

Just For Hunger OK May 17, 2013

I was on my way to TTSH for an appointment. I anticipated the long waiting time. Thus, I decided to grab something light to feel my stomach.

Yip's Curry Chicken Puff @$2 each
The puff pastry tasted just like an average puff pastry, flaky and crispy, even after half an hour.

The potato/chicken/curry filling was too paste-like - mushy. Even then, it tasted nice (I am trying to be impartial). However, I would have preferred to have chunkier potato and chicken. (I happened to view the photograph of this puff on Yip's website. What it showed is not what you get)

On the downside, it leaves a buttery aftertaste which I did not like. I would not consider buying this again.
