Yummy pasta at affordable prices  Smile Dec 24, 2014

Came all the way here with the aid of google maps and finally found this place tucked away in a small coffeeshop.

We tried their mac and cheese with bits of bacon and added truffle oil ($1) in it. Truffle taste wasn't faint and was well mixed into the mac and cheese. Portion seems to be a little small though but it was really good and full of flavours. Their aglio olio with mushrooms and zucchini was done al dente and I adored its garlicky flavour. Ingredients were quite minimal too but for its quality, it's worth the price. Waiting time was a little long (at least 10 minutes), and the mac and cheese came much later than the aglio olio.

Lavender creme brulee ($4): the sweet caramelized surface was beautifully torched and cracky, revealing a mousse-like texture of creme brulee underneath which was very smooth and had the melt-in-the-mouth texture. Lavender taste was distinct as well.

Waffles & Brunch Smile Dec 23, 2014   (Related Review)

More food reviews at http://rachelays.blogspot.com smile

It was a 15 minutes wait before we were seated. If you are looking for a quiet and cozy cafe to chill and hangout at, forget about Strangers' Reunion. It was very noisy during the peak hours and I could hardly hear my companion.

"Magic" $5.50

The caffeine taste was bitter and strong. The milk foam was creamy and smooth. Magic is made up of double shot ristretto and milk.

Cafe Mocha $5.50

A well balanced combination of cocoa, caffeine, and milk. Loving the lovely swan art too.

Flat White. Lovely art as usual.

Florentine $18

We found this overpriced and the portion did not justify for the price. The egg yolk was not at all runny as it was overcooked and the hollandaise sauce was not sufficient so it was quite dry as the yolk did not provide the needed moisture. The bread was also soggy but we love the overall taste of this dish. Everything went well together.

Waffles with greek yogurt and mixed fruits $11.50The slightly sweet and acidic taste of the yogurt went so well with the light and fluffy waffles. The moment I tried it I fell in love with it. Definitely one of the better waffles I had tried!

Mixed Fruits Waffles

They could have been more generous with the strawberries. The maple syrup was really sweet but it complemented the waffles well. So far, my favourite rendition has got to be the waffles with greek yogurt.

Prices aren't cheap but it is still worth a try if you love waffles. Be prepared to queue even at off-peak hours because they are almost always full.

Souffle Au Curry  Smile Dec 22, 2014

Waiting time was 20-30 minutes for souffle as they make it fresh on the spot. Don't order this if you're very hungry!

My friend had the aglio olio spaghetti while I had their Soufflé Au Curry ($16.80). Souffle was so fluffy and moist, with an eggy flavour while the rice beneath the souffle was fat and fluffy. The first few mouthfuls were heavenly (if you love jap curry and souffle.. surprisingly a wonderful combination) but halfway through the meal, I was overwhelmed by its rich taste. It would be better to share this I feel. Portion was very filling and I was struggling to finish it too.

Dessert  Smile Dec 22, 2014   (Related Review)

Went in a group of 5 and waiting time was supposedly over an hour but luckily we managed to get seats in about 15 minutes and our waffles surprisingly came within 15 minutes too.

We had the earl grey lavender flavour and dark chocolate flavour ($8.80 for one waffle slice and one serving of soft serve ice-cream). Friends commented that the dark chocolate ice-cream wasn't "dark" enough as it was milky and sweet. I felt that it was fine but its bitterness was very subtle. The earl grey lavender was sweet, maybe a little too sweet for me but I appreciated the distinct taste of lavender. The waffles were still good as usual, crisp, soft, and fluffy, and went well with the sweet maple syrup.. Fruits were on the sour side.

Cakes looked delicious but not many people ordered them.. We tried their matcha cake which is going for $7.90 (quite expensive) but it is yummy! The matcha sponge was very soft and airy, with a light matcha flavour (not the rich kind). I supposed that's cream cheese.. it complemented the matcha well too. Worth the try if you love matcha!

Will be back to try their other cakes! lol

Croquettes and onigiri Smile Dec 22, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Hokkaido Scollop Croquette $1.80: The breadcrumbs are very fine and crumbly. Batter is thin too. Texture is very soft and mushy (in a good way). I wouldn't know it's scallop if it isn't labelled there. It isn't quite something that I expect but it tastes good nevertheless!

Salmon Onigiri

The seaweed and rice are separated by a plastic so that the seaweed maintains its crisp. Such a simple item but it sure is yummy, with bits of cooked salmon that's sweet. Yums but it isn't quite worth the price. ($2.80 or $3.80?)

Fried vegetable $3.90: A little oily but oh so yummy and addictive! It is also lightly salted which enhances its overall taste.

Potato butter croquette: Think mashed potato mixed with butter..the result? Absolutely delicious!! Texture of the fillings is also smooth and every bite entices me to have more.

I'll definitely be back to try out their other croquettes!
