http://rachelays.blogspot.sg/2013/09/w39-bistro-bakery-clementi.html

2 months ago back in July, me and some girlfriends went there for dinner. It was not really much fuss to go there as there was direct bus from Clementi Bus Interchange, a little troublesome but well worth a visit!

W39 Bistro & Bakery serves european-styled dishes. It has a mini bakery section right beside the cake counter. The whole place is quite small and cozy. There are indoor seating as well as al fresco. Around the vicinity of W39 is private houses and so it tends to be rather quiet around the area. It is a nice place to have a good meal and catch up with friends.

vintage-looking setting. I adore their rustic and vintage decorations that reminded me so much of the older days.

Baked Portobello Mushroom, Balsamic Reduction $10
I certainly did not expect the portion to be so little but thankfully it did not taste like it was not worth the money. In fact, it was really good! The mushrooms were packed with juices and flavour. We finished it in no time.
This is worth a try but I don't think I will be ordering it again as it is too expensive.

Confit of Duck Leg, Mash, Aragula Salad $19.50
I love their salad dressing! The bed of mash underneath was so delightfully soft, warm and creamy. The skin of the duck confit was crispy and the meat was tender. It was a pity that it lacked flavour.

Roasted Spatchcock, Mushroom Gravy, Roasted Vegetables $24.50
The mushroom gravy was quite forgettable but had a unique taste to it unlike the usual creamy mushroom sauce used. The chicken meat was tender but I still prefer the duck confit more. This dish will take at least 20 minutes to be served.

Wagyu Burger with Fries $20
Fries were crispy and not oily. The burger was light and fluffy. The beef patty was good but Omakase Burger beat it hands down.

Chocolate cake with icecream
The quality of the ice-cream was not really good and it melted really fast. It was nevertheless a wonderful complement to the slice of chocolate cake. Cake had a moist and rich texture. This is good for sharing.

Service was friendly and meticulous in attending to our needs. There were not many diners around when we went on a weekday evening.

Kueh Ambon Smile Sep 23, 2013

Ordered one piece of kueh ambon for tea break at $1. This has got to be one of my favourite (if not most favourite) traditional kuehs! Kueh Ambon is a type of indonesian kueh that is made from ingredients such as tapioca, coconut milk, flour, eggs.etc There were holes in the kueh and was quite dense inside. It is also known as honeycake. Indeed, it is sweet but not too sweet. Texture is soft too. If you have not tried it before, I recommend you to do so smile

Apinach wanton noodle Smile Sep 21, 2013   (Related Review)

I took away a bowl of spinach wanton char siew noodle $3. even though the noodles were packed in a container bowl, there was no takeaway charges! the spinach noodles had a little bit of the strong "noodle" taste which i didn't like but the texture was good - quite qq and springy. There was no spinach flavour in the noodles though. There were 2 wantons and plenty of char siews which was tender, well-marinated and very meaty! nice!

Overall, i'll go back again smile

The Clan Restaurant  Smile Sep 03, 2013

Categories : European | Fusion | Seafood | Steaks and Grills

The 6-course dinner is available at $65.80++.

Starters: Oysters in 3 ways. The oysters were big, fresh and juicy. The oyster with tomato cubes on top had a sour and tangy taste and was mildly spicy at the same time while the oyster served in a shot glass came with an egg yolk in it.

Foie Gras
Although the foie gras did not melt perfectly in the mouth, it was still a great inclusion to our meal. The deep fried foie gras was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Somehow, it gave us the impression that the foie gras was big but in fact it was very thinly sliced which did not give us much kick when we bit into it.

Kurobuta Pork Belly confit w Pork Cracker & Passion Fruit Sauce
The pork belly was really tender and the fats melted in my mouth. I dislike pork belly but I loved this! The skin was also really crispy. The passionfruit sauce was slightly sour and did not seem to complement the pork belly and salad well enough though.

Crab Bisque Cappuccino & Prawn Twister
What a unique way of serving the soup, in a champagne glass! I love crab bisque but this was too sweet for my liking. The taste was also rather overpowering and it was hard for me to finish it all by myself.

Cepes Mushroom w Truffle Paste
It was mildly sweet with plenty of mushroom bits. There was also a subtle taste of truffle and it was indeed a satisfying bowl of soup.

48 Degree Poached Salmon w Japanese Broth, Dehydrated Wakame & Leek Confit
The salmon fish was served medium rare with a warm and pink center. The salmon was very soft because of its doneness. The salmon was also quite thick and was a good portion for a main course.

48 Hours Beef Short Ribs on Hoba Leaf w Peppercorn Sauce on Lava Stone
Beef was tender and lightly seasoned. The peppercorn sauce tasted ordinary though.

Chocolate Lava w Homemade Gelato
There is something about chocolate lava/molten cakes that are so addictive. I love this dessert but wish the portion could be slightly bigger. It is definitely not enough for a choc-lava cake addict like me!

Service was very amiable and friendly smile

Au Petit Salut  Smile Aug 22, 2013

Categories : French | Restaurant

The restaurant exudes a warm and romantic vibe. Diners are greeted with lush greenery as they make their way to the entrance of the restaurant. Alfresco dining is available. It is cooling but I am not sure if there will be mosquitoes though.

Flaked smoked Haddock, beetroot, Hibiscus puree and Ko Giku flowers
This dish was really good. The haddock was supposed to be salty and it was balanced well with the light flavour of the beetroot. I do not like salty food but I could tell that the tastebuds enjoyed the company of the haddock. Lol.

Sautéed duck foie gras, Balsamic braised onions, Aioli & pea shoots
Slightly crisp on the outside, the foie gras had a melt-in-the-mouth texture. The presentation of this dish was minimalistic and I loved how there was a cute pea shoot standing on the top of the foie gras.

Fillet of Barramundi, salsify braised in red wine and roasted mushrooms & Samphire
I could not taste any red wine but it was okay as I am not a fan of alcoholic drinks. The mushrooms had a "crunchy" texture to it yet it was really juicy inside. Barramundi was very tender but it was a pity that the skin was not crispy. There were some fine bones in it too which made eating a little difficult since the lightings were dim. It was tasty, nevertheless.

400 days grain fed Wagyu rib eye,‘Pommes Mousseline’ and red wine sauce
The BF had this. The potato puree was really delightful and I loved it. The beef, served medium rare, had a uniform consistency. The toppings on top (corns and veg) did not seem to complement the beef but thankfully they still tasted good.

Polenta & olive oil cake, Mandarin and gingerbread mousse, vanilla ice cream
I was having a hard time snapping shots for this dessert as there were not enough lights to capture a good shot and I did not want to use my flash. Thankfully, the vanilla ice-cream was extremely obedient and did not melt a single bit. Everything in this dessert complemented well with each other.

Chocolate Crème Brulée
The surface was caramelized well and was topped with some chocolate balls. Even though the entire dessert only had the distinct chocolate taste, it did not overwhelm as the chocolate was not one of rich flavour. It was a sweet ending to our meal.

Their set dinner is really affordable for a fine dining restaurant so if you have a budget on hand, you can try out Au Petit Salut.

$88+ for set dinner
