Good Value Fishball Noodles Smile May 28, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

Visited Liang Seng Mushroom Meat Pork Noodle on a saturday morning, and decided to try out their fishball noodles.

Given the current economic status now, $2.50 is a big steal for this big bowl of noodles. There are 2 fishballs, lots of pork slices and fish cake slices to go with lots of noodles. However, the taste of this fishball noodle is just average. It's not bad tasting, but there is nothing special about the noodles, and something good to just fill your tummy.

I would recommend this stall because of the big portion for a low price, and great for people who are on a budget.

Ooo.. Spicy! Smile May 28, 2012

Decided to try Thai Express again after a long long time. First impression given by the outlet wasn't good. They were seriously understaffed, and I waited for about 10 minutes outside queuing, when there are already clean and ready tables for customers to use.

As expected, asking to take order took a long time, but at least the kitchen served up food relatively fast.

I tried the Thai Red Laksa with chicken & potato, which cost $9.90 before taxes. I loved the taste of the laksa as it had this very rich and creamy coconut milk taste. The laksa soup was also quite thick and makes it easy to go with the noodles. However, I do not recommend this for people who can't take much chilli. I consider myself about average as I can eat most laksa without breathing fire, but this laksa is about my limits.

So I was reaching for the ice water every now and then to cool down my fire, and when I finished my ice water, it took the service crew forever to refill my ice water. Refill was only given after asking at least 5 times. Very disappointed in their service.

In conclusion, the food quality is still good, but service still needs to be improved. If you like to try Thai Express, you might want to try it at other outlets.

Peanut Ice Kacang Smile May 28, 2012

Ordered this peanut ice kacang from Jin Jin Hot/Cold Dessert. This stall have been reviewed by a number of famous food blogs or newspaper, so I think it should be pretty good.

The peanut ice kacang cost me $1.50, and to my suprise, the same ice kacang without the peanuts still cost $1.50! Unless you're allergic to peanuts, I recommend getting the peanut ice kacang over the normal one to make your money worthwhile.

I like how they put the red beans all over the ice. I can eat the red beans with the ice right from my first mouthful. It's unlike other stalls where they leave the red beans below, and I always end up eating the ice and red beans seperately. It's good innovation, but makes for bad presentation. Overall, I think it's slightly better than average, but the portion could be bigger.

Char Siew Wanton Noodles! Smile May 28, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre | Chicken Rice

Chanced upon this Hainanese Chicken Rice stall, that looks more like a roasted meat stall, with all the char siew, barbeque meat, and roast chicken. The stall had a photo of our ex-president with the chef, and various awards for excellence in culinary.

Bought this plate of Char Siew Wanton Noodles for $3, and it's worth every cent of my money. First of all, the portion is generous. There are 3 pieces of freshly fried wanton, and many slices of char siew. The fried wanton was extremely crispy, but it lacked fillings in it. The char siew was roasted a little differently, as it focused more on the roasted flavour rather than just the sweet taste. Noodle was Q, and the chef made the effort to mix up the noodle with the sauce properly before serving.

I would come to this stall again for their Char Siew Wanton Noodles, or try some of their other dishes next time.

Wan Li Xiang economic rice is a stall worth trying out because of their fair price and good taste. I ordered 3 sides to go with my rice; braised pork slices, fried chicken, and steamed egg with minced meat.

Fried chicken was fresh and crispy, and the insides was slightly juicy. The braised pork slices wasn't too salty, the meat was soft, and had no fats in them. Lastly, the steamed egg wasn't the typical smooth kind, but more like fried egg, only less salty and softer.

Overall, 2 meat and 1 egg cost $3.50, and it's a fair price to pay when you're so near to 2 shopping centers. The environment wasn't good with a strong oily smell lingering in the air and it's quite hot in the market.
