Laksa Everything! Smile Aug 04, 2012

Categories : Singaporean | Fusion | Restaurant | Noodles | Kids-Friendly

Came to Laksania today to try their food because I heard they don't just serve normal laksa, but they prepare all sorts of dishes of laksa flavour, such as burgers and fried rice.

I ordered a Laksa Chicken Rice for $10.50, which I feel is a little too expensive compared to the other dishes in the restaurant, but went ahead with the order because it's a chef recommended dish.

The Laksa Chicken Rice is packed full of goodies. In the small claypot, there is not just rice and chicken, but also long beans, carrot, cabbage and enoki mushroom. However, this dish does not deliver in the taste. It is a rather simple dish to cook, so the key lies in the sauce and chicken. The chicken is fried alright, still juicy inside, but the laksa sauce is rather bland, and flavour needs to be stronger. There is also no laksa sauce left for the rice, so it's all plain white rice in the bowl.

Overall, the Laksa Chicken Rice is ok tasting, but not worth paying $10.50 for. I'll be better off paying $6.50 for a normal bowl of laksa of theirs and it tastes so much better.

Average Mixed Veg Rice OK Aug 04, 2012
Categories : Coffeeshop

This area is quite limited in terms of variety of food, so I settled for a plate of mixed vegetable rice.

I ordered sweet and sour pork, fried eggs, and potato, which is considered 1 meat and 2 veg, and it cost only $2.50. I find it very economical indeed, and the portion just right. However, this stall does not fair very well when it comes to taste. The food is slightly cold and taste average only, nothing notable or special.

I may come back here again if I'm looking for a fast meal at a cheap price.

One of the best Ice Kacang! Smile Jul 27, 2012

This stall is one of the stalls that I will never fail to patronize when I'm eating at Redhill Market. The high quality of their desserts and value for money makes it stall one of my favourites.

First of all, the ice is really fine, and the stall owner is very generous with their syrup and it covers every single bit of ice. In addition to the usual ingredients, longan is also added inside!

For $1.30, this dessert stall is a must try at Redhill Market.

Redhill Curry Rice OK Jul 26, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre

I was walking around the stalls in Redhill Market when the aroma of this curry rice stall caught my attention. And so, I ordered myself a set of curry rice with pork chop, curry pork slices, and cabbage for $3.70. The price is rather reasonable for curry rice.

The side dishes are of average taste, nothing fantastic that catches my attention. However, the curry is a little disappointing. Only pork curry is given, unlike other stalls where a mix of all variety of curry is given, which adds layers of flavour to the rice.

Not a stall that I would crave to come back, but still ok to eat.

Mango Ice Madness! Smile Jul 26, 2012
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

Dropped by Xin Wang again today for one of their signature dessert, the Mango Ice. It's selling point is the huge heap of ice with mango syrup, and a scoop mango ice cream popped on top of it.

I always liked this dessert because of it's good value. $6.80 for a dessert that can be shared by more than 4 person is value for money to me. The ice shavings are acceptable for me, and the sweetness of the syrup is just right. However, the syrup is only around the surface of the Mango Ice, while the core is white pure ice shavings.

I still would try this again because of the good value, but surely the taste of this dessert can be improved.
