We were walking aroung Far East Shopping Centre, and was thinking of what else to eat. Since the shopping centre have not much choices, we tried to go some other places to eat but as it is raining heavily, we just walk around the shopping centre to check if there is any other nice restaurant which we can try out and this is when we saw a Japanese Restaurant called “Rakuichi Japanese Restaurant” which seems to be quite nice but very quiet. There are just about 2 small groups of customer eating inside the restaurant when we walked in but the staff are very welcoming which makes us feels quite cozy.

The restaurant looks nice with wooden decoration design theme and they display some of their seafood (Though some of them are fake) on the counter.

After looking through their menu, you can feel that they are mainly into set meals with a lot of different dishes included in it. Most of them are quite on the high side of price too. The dishes are also quite limited on which set you can choose as most of the fresh sashimi depends on whether there is any of them in the restaurant.

All meat are being kept nicely inside the display fridge to make sure the meat is fresh before cutting it.
Grilled Salmon Skin @ $10.00

Grilled Salmon Skin @ $10.00

This is something which I had eaten in other restaurant but not being prepared in this way. The chef used simple way of grilling the salmon skin with pressing the skin till compacted together resulting in crispy yet nice salmon skin. Best to be eaten together with rice so as not to be too salty. I do not think I saw this dish inside the menu but you can request for it from the staff who will get the chef to prepare the dish.
Namakaki Ponzu @ $9 (Each)

Namakaki Ponzu @ $9 (Each)

Fresh oyster are being opened on the spot and marinated with some ponzu sauce together with some greens. One mouth all in and you will be able to taste the freshness of the oyster while the ponzu sauce compliment the overall taste with it nice sweet plus salty feel. Highly recommended but as I said, it is on the high side of the price to me.
Iro Iro Set @ $38.60

Iro Iro Set @ $38.60

The whole of this set include the following:

-Raw Fish of the Day
-Grilled Kama (Fin portion) with salt
-Steamed Egg Custard
-Seafood Tempura
-Rice, Mixed Pickles
-Seaweed and tofu miso soup.
Grilled Kama (Fin portion) with salt – Part of Iro Iro Set

Grilled Kama (Fin portion) with salt – Part of Iro Iro Set

The one that I get does not really looked like a fin portion but neverless, this is a nice and simple dish to have with it meat being grilled to light brown with juicy meat when you bite onto it.
Seafood Tempura – Part of Iro Iro Set

Seafood Tempura – Part of Iro Iro Set

The seafood tempura is actually consist of part of soft shell crab and some vegetable prepared in tempura style. Very crispy while able to taste the juiciness of the soft shell crab and vegetable.

Gindara Teriyaki Set @ $38.60

The whole of this set include the following:

-Sashimi of the Day
-Grilled Cod Fish with Teriyaki Sauce
-Steamed Egg Custard
-Food Tempura

-Seaweed and tofu miso soup.
Fish of the Day (Salmon and Yellowtail Sashimi) – Part of Iro Iro Set and Gindara Teriyaki Set (Combined)

Fish of the Day (Salmon and Yellowtail Sashimi) – Part of Iro Iro Set and Gindara Teriyaki Set (Combined)

The whole presentation of the dish is very nicely done with real crushed ice base to keep the sashimi as fresh as possible (Some restaurant used reusable chemical ice packet instead). Sashimi is evenly sliced (Equal thickness) and most importantly, it is very freshly made and you can feel the texture of the freshness with each bite.

Dining at Table Manners Smile Dec 02, 2013

Categories : European | Desserts and Cakes | Pasta | Seafood | Salads/ Acai Bowl

We stayed in the east area and went to Singapore Expo to take a look at the travel event. After that, we decided to walk over to Changi City Point which is a new shopping mall opened next to Expo MRT station. Walking through some of the restaurants, we decided to settle for “Table Manners” for our dinner as their simple yet unique decoration kind of attract us to dine here.

The seating of the restaurant are very special as they do not really have separate tables but more on those long type of tables for all different customer to seat. Read somewhere said that this restaurant idea is to let customer mingle with each other and make friends with strangers eating there too.

In terms of space wise, they have indoors and outdoors dining area and I like the one below a tent type but too bad during that time when we are there, some other customer are already there having their meals.

The staff are quite knowledgeable of their own dishes and is able to tell us some details of the dishes when we enquire about it. One thing great about them is that they are able to re-fill our drinks without us keep asking for it. (Unlike a few restaurants that I had eaten so far.)
Cappuccino of Mushroom Soup @ $6.50

Cappuccino of Mushroom Soup @ $6.50

There is a strong smell coming out from the soup though I am not very sure if it is really cappuccino (I love cappuccino drinks). Maybe it is being mixed with mushroom so the smell is different from the normal drinks but for this soup, it does taste unique and if you never tried before, you should try it to have your own opinion.
Louisiana Fried Chicken @ $16.00

Louisiana Fried Chicken @ $16.00

This is one of the more popular dish based on what Hazel said and it is true that I think this is one of the more value dish to have for a meal as it comes with truffle fries and house salad. The chicken meat is very tender and nicely fried with crispy on the outside, locked the juicy meat on the inside.
Chicken Parmigiana @ $17.00

Chicken Parmigiana @ $17.00

Breaded Chicken leg are being deep fried before putting some tomato sauce mixed with melted mozzarella cheese. Very nice to be able to eat the melted cheese as though you are eating pizza but with a better bite with crispy chicken meat. The dish is served with mash potato and a bit of house salad using none fat salad sauce.
Three Little Pigs @ $16.00

Three Little Pigs @ $16.00

Breaded pork cutlet are being deep fried before serving it with mash potato and house salad (Same as the Chicken Parmigiana) before sprinkle with some garlic aioli (Green bits). Not as good as the chicken but normal because meat of the pork is always harder than chicken.
Ebiko Mussels @ $8.50

Ebiko Mussels @ $8.50

These mussels are big and sweet. Some fish roe mixed with mayonnaise sauce are being place on top of the mussels before placing in oven or something to make those sauce smelted. Resulted taste. Great and must try when you are there. (I know other places also have these type of dishes too so do try theirs too). There are some rice below those mussels so this should be able to be eaten as snack or main dish if you are a small eater.
Truffle Chicken Bites @ $8.50

Truffle Chicken Bites @ $8.50

Chicken bites (No bones) are being deep fried before sprinkle with truffle power which gives a strong truffle smell and taste. There are truffle fries (Same as skinny pizza type if not wrong) if you wish to have. For me, the taste is nice but truffle stuff always gives my stomach a problem so I kind of eat less of it.
Norwegian Baked Salmon @ $20.00

Norwegian Baked Salmon @ $20.00

A big piece of Salmon meat is being baked before serving it with mash potato, mushroom ragout below and some garlic miso mayo sauce on top of the meat. I feels that the salmon is a bit too dry and the mushroom is very juicy. Not a bad dish.

Jambalaya @ $16.00

Jambalaya @ $16.00

This is a combination of both seafood and meat together cooked like pasta style with Mussels and Chicken wings with spicy tomato sauce. Served with pilaf rice (Not very sure what is this rice anyway).

Classic Cakes (Also features in newspapers and TV Foodie Show)

Classic Cakes (Also features in newspapers and TV Foodie Show)

We had been talking about going back to Malacca to eat crepe cake (Nadeja) but also know that there is a crepe cake restaurant which sells very nice crepe cake and have been looking forward to try it if there is a chance. Today is the day and since I already know where the restaurant is, I guide my girlfriend on how to reach the location.

The restaurant is actually a very small shop front at Clementi Arcade mall (The parking space are very limited and small). There are just 2 small tables inside this restaurant (Good 2 -3 person group per table dinning in) or to wait for your cakes to be ready.

They sell Durian Crepe Cake too!

They also sell Chinese radish and yam cakes too (Strange but interesting)

We order 2 different type of Crepe cake and start to share between us and true enough, this is a very nice and heavenly taste. Since I had eaten in a few places for crepe cake, this is the best that I had eaten so far while I am still waiting to go back Malacca to try out the ones there.
Original Mille Crepes @ $7.00 / Slice

Original Mille Crepes @ $7.00 / Slice

I think the original crepe cake is the best as each and every bite you take, it gives you the nature freshness and nice taste of the crepe and cream. One thing to note is that the cake still stays in its form when you try to cut the cake using fork which means the chef who made the crepe cake is able to make it super soft and able to maintain its shape. (Unlike some of which I eaten, the shape is destroyed with that very first single cut using the fork)
Chocolate Chip Mille Crepes @ $7.00 / Slice

Chocolate Chip Mille Crepes @ $7.00 / Slice

I do not really like chocolate chip type but still, it is very nice and soft and just nice type of sweet. There is a melted sugar on the crepe cake which you will be able to taste that sugar burned bitter after taste which match very well with the sweetness of the crepe cake

The restaurant do not provide any water so you must either buy it from other restaurant or at the supermart nearby to drench your thirst after eating the crepe cake. (How I wish I can enjoy the crepe cake with some English or Chinese tea.)

Shark Meat Lor Mee Smile Dec 02, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Noodles

It was a beautiful and sunny Saturday and me and my friends planned to go for a day of foodie trip (To some places normally we will not go) and our first stop is Tiong Bahru for Shark meat Lor Mee which one of my friend had never eaten before and both my girlfriend and I wish to intro her to it and in the same time have our lunch there as we did not eat at this place for quite a while.

The lor mee stall is located at level 2 of the Tiong Bahru old market (Level 1 is wet market) and this place is famous for it good food (A few popular stall located here). As usual, when we reached the place, there are quite a lot of people having their meals here and there is already a queue at the Shark Meat Lor Mee stall.

You will be able to see there is always a queue at this stall for their Lor Mee (There are other stall selling lor mee too) and the staff inside are seen to be always deep frying Shark meat Nuggets and some other side dishes of the Lor Mee.

The stall design is quite simple with clear details of the pricing of their lor mee. This is also one of the very few stall who let customer self service on some of the ingredients like Black vinegar, garlic, red chillies and etc.
Lor Mee with Shark Nuggets @ $3.00

Lor Mee with Shark Nuggets @ $3.00

The gravy of the Lor Mee is nice with my own version of more black vinegar and garlic which I feels it enhanced the overall taste of this lor mee. The noodles is nice while the crispy deep fried flour really makes the meal tasted better. The nuggets are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside but do remember to eat it fast else it will be very soft due to the mixture of the gravy.

Yakun Kaya Toast Smile Dec 02, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

There is outdoor and indoor dinning style for customer to choose which place to sit. At that time, there are not much people eating at this restaurant so we are quick to be able to find a table (Free seating) and started to order our food.
Coffee and Tea @ $1.50 each

Coffee and Tea @ $1.50 each

Coffee and tea are good but what gives it the better points in my case is the olden days type of cups being used here. Though smaller in size, it reminds me of how I used to pour the tea or coffee on the plate to let it cool down before drinking it from the plate instead of the cup. Good old days.
French Toast @ $1.70

French Toast @ $1.70

Bread are being mixed together with egg before frying it waiting for you to dip it into the kaya. Great taste though the toast is not as crispy due to the addition of egg on it.
Cheesy French Toast @ $2.00

Cheesy French Toast @ $2.00

Same as French toast except that this one include cheese in the center of the toast and you will be able to eat the cheese melted within the toast. Great taste again and most suitable for those who love to eat cheesy food. I think it would be even better in term of taste if they used those mozzarella cheese on these cheesy french toast instead to give it a super cheesy feel when you bite onto the toast.
Kaya Toast @ $2.00 for 2 piece

Kaya Toast @ $2.00 for 2 piece

Bread are being toasted and spread with a generous serving of kaya before adding in a small piece of butter (Stingy on this). Taste is great and loves their kaya taste together with butter. It does brings me back to the days when I was still a kid eating these type of breakfast dishes with my Grand father / father while they talk with their friends over a cup of coffee for breakfast.
