Swiss bake has both sweet and savory pastries and I must say they have one of the widest varieties of pastries for a chain bakery. I normally get their chocolate Danish but decided to try the chicken pie instead. The pie was pretty good with a nice flaky crust with good flavour and a buttery aroma. The filling was chunky and tasty too!

Crystal jade bakery sells egg tarts and char siew sou among other traditional

Pastries! The egg tarts are passable with a custardy smooth filling that has a nice eggy flavour without being overwhelming. The letdown is the pastry though. While the texture is nice and flaky while being crumbly, it is really lacking is flavour without a nice buttery sweet flavour.

Tiong bahru pau has different types of pau and some other dim sum items such as siew Mai har gau and lor Mai gai. My favorite item there is actually the lor mai gai which has soft chewy grains of glutinous rice which are flavourful and yummy. The chicken pieces are not super fantastic in terms of flavour tasting slightly artificial but overall the dish still comes together nicely.

cake Cry May 08, 2013

I bought a cake from this place for a party. The cake we ordered was a chocolate mousse cake, in a small size. The cake was quite nice overall being very rich with an intense chocolate flavour, but the components could be improved on, the cake itself was not very appetizing tasting abit dried out and not very fresh. The mousse helped to save it abit though providing some smoothness to distract from the bad sponge.

I love peanut pancakes, but am quite choosy about them. This place meets my expectations with freshly made pancake with a peanut filling that is of the right sweetness. The pancake is freshly made so the outside is crispy. My favourite part is the edges which are almost cracker like, as a can peel them off and munch on the crunchy bits. The pancake itself is light and fluffy.
