Choc crepe cake & tart OK Dec 25, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Ice Cream and Gelato

I was at ION orchard attending an event with friend and something caught my eyes when walking pass the Awfully Chocolate shop. They have Crepe cake!

I bought 1 slice to try!

The cake was chocolaty enough but they are overly generous with the cocoa powder. It makes the cake a mess to eat and thirsty cos the powder dries up the tongue. But overall I still like it.

Dark chocolate tart
This was ok, nothing to shout about. I better stick to eating their choco cake next time.

Nana's Green Tea is just a few steps away from Dome cafe at the same level. I ordered an impressive looking chocolate parfait and an appetizer to munch on.

Teriyaki chicken roll (4pcs) $4.80++
I wasn't expecting the portion to be big but it was! The makis were huge and thick and packed with generous ingredients. Taste wise was not bad but I would have preferred that they give me more teriyaki sauce as the chicken meat was kinda dry.

Hoji Gateaux Choco parfait $13.80++
I was feeling quite full by the time this came. The glass was tall indeed. I had a love hate relationship with this dessert. I love the crispy corn flakes, waffle biscuit, the ice cream and chocolate sauce. The same cannot be said for the Gateaux cake. It was dry and tough and tasted weird...yucks. And, the kanten jelly at the bottom was too sweet, didn't finish that too. Note to self, order the choco banana one next time.

I was at Marina SQ to exchange foreign currency for my Macau trip next month. I decided to settle dinner at The Dining Edition and picked Saigon Lotus due to favorable reviews online (mostly raving about their Pho which I don't eat). Anyways, I thought if their Pho is authentic, other dishes should be fine as well.

The restaurant is adorned with eye-catching bright colored Viet style lanterns. Coupled with equally bright color walls with touches of lotus shaped accessories...very Vietnamese I guess.

Their simple menu featuring mostly traditional Viet cuisine. Spotted some spelling mistakes...part of the authentic dining experience I reckoned.

I was checking out the Grill pork noodle and the Viet waitress who was serving me told me that the pork can be changed to chicken if I don't take pork. I ordered it anyway cos I do eat pork but not beef. I also ordered 2 more side dishes and a drink to go with my main course.

Sweet-salted Lime juice $3.50+, I loved this drink...it is sweet, salty & sourish all at once, very invigorating!

Mango salad $8.00+, this looks like Thai mango salad but it tasted different. Other than the sourish green mango, the dressing taste totally different. They toss it with lotsa basil and the salad has a really strong basil taste...too strong for my liking, even though I do eat basil.

The serving portion is huge, good for 2-3pax sharing. I didn't managed to finish this as the basil taste was too overwhelming.

Crispy pork spring rolls $7.00+. Nicely marinated minced pork with vermicelli, mushroom, carrot etc. wrapped in crispy skin...very delish!

Grilled pork noodle (Dry) $11.00+. Wait a minute, did you see chicken or pork on top of the noodle?

As another part of the authentic Vietnamese dining experience, the Viet waitress misunderstood me. I told her I eat pork but don't eat beef but I guess it sounded like I don't eat both pork & beef! She still served me chicken in the end!

The chicken was broiled not grilled, tasted extremely bland, plus it is breast meat...very hard and chewy! I did not enjoy this dish at all. Worst of all, serving is huge...so here's the aftermath.

There's a 20% discount on Sun - Thu, and they don't charge GST, plus serving portion is generous...very pocket friendly! I wouldn't say I won't come back again but I'd definitely talk less and just point! Those that I merely pointed all turned out fine shocked

Pricey food OK Dec 01, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

Quite a few of the existing eateries at Nex mall has closed down. One of them is Lai Lai taiwanese cafe. A new HK Cha Chan Teng has taken its place selling HK coffee shop delights.

The menu wasn't very extensive and lacks variety. Prices are on the steep side too.

Claypot chicken rice 2pax $18.80++
The portion for 2pax was quite generous, it is even enough to feed 3 small eaters. The rice is rather fragrant and chicken meat is chunky and moist. Plenty of fresh veggie and mushroom can be found in the rice. Not bad.

Prawn dumpling soup $8.80++
Prawns were fresh, the soup was nothing to shout about.

New menu OK Oct 15, 2013

Hungry Jack has revamped their menu again. Now they have new pasta and meat dishes. Prices has also gone up a little.

I picked the Seafood marinara $6.90 from the House specialty series. The pasta was overcooked and soggy, not springy like usual...probably because it is off peak hours and there is only one staff manning the stall. He gotta take care of cooking 3 orders all at once and left the pasta boiling for too long. The seafood serving was ample but not really very fresh, the tomato sauce was good though.
