Modern kopi stall OK Mar 16, 2014

I am a fan of traditional coffee and toast and one of my favourite food bloggers recommended the kaya toast and coffee from this stall! I finally had the opportunity to check it out as I was around the area.
Set B, $3 & Set C, $3.30

Set B, $3 & Set C, $3.30

We ordered Set B and C. Set B comprise of 2 Toasted Kaya Butter bread and a choice of Coffee or Tea. Set C comprise of 2 Baguette French Toast and a choice of Coffee or Tea. We had the Kopi C, which was a little on the bitter side.

The kaya was not bad but didn't had the 'wow' factor to it.
Kopi, $1.20

Kopi, $1.20

As we were unsatisfied with our coffee, we ordered their Kopi, which tasted better but still, really nothing special about it.

French-Jap cafe Smile Mar 16, 2014

We were told that our food would only arrive 20 minutes later. Lucky we were not too hungry and it was okay for our stomachs to wait! I like the decor of this cafe, which had some sort of a casual and old school vibe to it.
Miam Miam Spaghetti, $15.80

Miam Miam Spaghetti, $15.80

One of the signatures here is Miam Miam Capellini, which is sauteed with frankfurters, tomatoes, baby spinach, eggplant, bacon and a soft boiled egg in the middle! The portion is just nice and the whole dish was tossed with french toast, their secret broth and shoyu. The mixture of the eggs throughout the dish further enhance the taste!
Riz Noir, $16.50

Squid-ink Rice

Squid-ink Rice

I am always intrigued by a Squid-ink based dish and ordered their Riz Noir, which is the french name for Squid-ink rice. Riz Noir consist of an omu egg on top of the squid-ink rice and an assortment of prawns and squids. I was actually taken aback by the portion size when it was served. I expected it to be much bigger! Anyway, the omelette looks fluffy but the taste was just soso. However, the squid ink rice is good! I like that it wasn't too strong, just nice!
I would love to come back here again for their souffles and drinks!

Awesome pastries! Smile Mar 16, 2014

Butterfly Cupcake, $

Butterfly Cupcake, $

Butterfly cupcake is an old school traditional kind of pastry and I've been wanting to try Dong Po's version as I heard it is nice! I tried it before from some other bakeries and they all tasted average. Upon the first bite, the feeling was like an instant 'shiok!' The cupcake is dense and I love the aromatic butter taste in the buttercream, which compliments really well with the plain cupcake batter. This is the best Butterfly Cupcake I've tried so far!
Optical Box, $1.70

Almond Finger, $1.90

Almond Finger, $1.90

The Almond finger has a nice crust and I like the crispiness of the almond coating! The optical box consist of a layer of chocolate ganache in between the sponge fingers and it's a really good combination! This is my third visit here and so far, all the pastries I tried from this cafe were all good lol

Quiet cafe in the West Smile Mar 16, 2014

Categories : American | Café | Hotel | Vegetarian | Burgers and Sandwiches

Cali Cafe was offering a deal on Groupon and we decided to buy the $15 for $30 worth of voucher. Upon stepping in, there wasn't anyone around and I guess we were their first customers of the day. We serve ourselves and took the menu to browse through. We even had to ask the cook where were the staff. A man came shortly afterwards and I believe he is the supervisor. Anyway, we felt unwelcomed by them and it was only awhile later that a female staff came to serve us.

My friend decided on having the BBQ Chicken Burrito Wrap while I had the Smokin' Turkey and Mango Sandwich. Both of our mains came with fries too. You can also choose to opt for Nachos.

They use the Focaccia type of bread which is soft and compliments well with the awesome combination of Turkey and Mango tongue The mustard further enhance the taste!
Cappuccino, $5.50

Cappuccino, $5.50

Being a coffee lover, I couldn't leave without having a cup of caffeine! I ordered a hot Cappuccino and requested it to be serve after my food. I like that it isn't too bland or acidic ^^ Overall, I like the design of the cafe and it's spaciousness. It also fits the 'hidden/quiet' category. Their food and drinks were good but service wise, they really need to do some major reflection!

Salmon sashimi don OK Mar 16, 2014

Salmon Don, $8.80

Salmon Don, $8.80

Men Men Don Don have a few outlets all over Singapore and they sell a range of Japanese food like sushis, ramen, udon, donburis and a few small side dishes. So far, I have only tried their sushis and chawanmushi. This is my first time trying one of their mains! Their Salmon Don, priced at $8.80, is pretty reasonable as it had a number of sashimi slices, an egg, cucumber, ginger and a good portion of rice! I will try their ramen or udon next time!
