Dinner at Au Chocolat Smile Sep 26, 2013
Categories : French | European | Café | Desserts and Cakes

Pauline n Sam tell us how nice the food is at Au Chocolat but we have yet to have a chance to try. Finally, we are going today together.. Au Chocolat at MBS is divided into bistro dining area and a retail confiserie with a wide selection of chocolate and candy. Apart from selling candy and chocolate, the retail confiserie also has items of their icons Yufa and OO, 2 cute dogs...

Each of us ordered a drink.. sam had Banana Boost $12.00,a drink a combination of white chocolate and banana.. she commented that this drink is nice and she is able to taste the taste and sweetness of the banana. Wendy had Mango Magic $12.00.. forget to ask her for the taste but I suppose should be nice coz no complains from her.. Theresa and Myself, we had the Taiwan lychee beer $12.00, its so nice, sweet and refreshing. Pauline ordered the Hot Fudge $10.00,accordingto her, this is nice when its consumed when its hot, the drink is creamy and had strong, nice chocolate taste..

we ordered 2 sides to share
1) Sweet Potato Fries $12.00, that is served with Mayo & BBQ sauce.. I super love the sweet potato fries here, it is sweet and crispy.. a recommended dish to order...

2) Mushroom Bites $14.00 that is cooked and simmer in red wine sauce. This dish is served with tomato and slices of toast at the side. Spread some of these mushroom on the toast and it's so yummy. The mushroom is well infused with the sauce and is soft, great combination to eat with the toast.

each of us ordered a main too, Pauline, Evelyn and Me, we ordered the nice, yummy Boeuf Bourguignon $26.00. This is beef check, bacon, carrots and mushrooms slow cooked in veal stock and red wine. Looks small when it is served in the pot but it is actually quite filling as there is mash potato underneath the beef and a bread at the side. I would strongly recommend this dish as the beef is well cooked, soft and had absorbed the sauce making it tender too.. the mash potato on it own is already tasty but taste even better when you eat it with the sauce. A very well done dish..

Sam and Theresa ordered the California Smoked Salmon Sandwich $20.00. Both of them have no complains with this dish and both commented that this is nice and the serving is huge.

Wendy ordered the Pacific Crab Cake $32.00. I had a small bite on this and this is nice too. The crab cake has nice, sweet taste of crab. Worth trying too..

We are all so full from the meal but well, there is always a little more space for desserts and furthermore, there is no way we can resist the temptation of desserts from the huge selection of cakes and pastries from the confiserie. We decide to order the Kalamansi tart $9.00 and Cookies & cream brownie $5.00 to share. Personally I prefer the Kalamansi tart over the Cookies & cream brownie. The Kalamansi tart topping has strong kalamansi taste which is sourish but the taste is so refreshing. You need to eat this together the tart, the combination is heavenly, the sweetness from the tart plus the sourish taste from the topping, nice and well-balanced... The cookies & cream brownie is nice but a little too sweet to my liking and so I only had a bite and stop...

We are actually here today for the Wednesday waffles promo that is 50% off on the second waffle purchased but was told by the staff that we cannot had waffles at the bistro area and that we have to walk over to the confiserie for it. We are comfortably seated down and do not want to sit at the high chair at the confiserie, we decide not to have the waffle today..

Thou we are disappointed that we don get to eat the waffle at the bistro area but still I think Au Chocolat is worth visiting, the staffs here are friendly and quite prompt... great place for friends meet up... I will definitely return again...

Japanese Cruisine at Sushi Tei Smile Sep 25, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

We go shopping at Vivocity and has cravings for Japanese food. We decide to have early dinner to avoid the crowd. Sushi Tei at Vivocity always has long queue and we are glad to be shown to our table after queuing for around 5 mins.

Fiish roe chawanmushi, I quite like the chawanmushi at Sushi Tei, it is smooth and has strong egg taste, the serving of the fish roe is a lot and nice.

This is so unique, Golden Roll. Crispy tempura prawn with sushi rice wrapped with mango stripes. The tempura prawn is crispy and you can taste the freshness of the prawn. The sweet mango stripes enhance the taste the prawn and rice. A must try at Sushi Tei.

Grilled Teriyaki Squid, the squid is fresh and grilled nicely. The squid is soft and yet chewy, the sweet teriyaki sauce is nice.

Crabstick Chawanmushi, nothing special, just that the steamed egg custard is smooth and nice.

Grilled prawns with Mentaiko (明太子). The prawn is fresh and the mentaiko sauce that is spread over the prawn is so yummy, a great dish to try.

We also ordered a hotpot to share, the soup base is sweet and the ingredients they provide in the set are fresh and nice.

Tze Char Stall in Chinatown Smile Sep 23, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

My friend came with her friends the other day and she decide to ask us for dinner at this Kok Sen Restaurant again. A small coffee shop that is located near Hotel 1929. It can be very packed during dinner time and so do come early for seats.

Claypot Yong Tau Foo, think this is one of the specialty as most of the tables will order this. The yong tau foo is deep fried and simmer in a delightfully nice and thick sauce. This does not cause the yong tau foo to become soggy but instead it absorb the sauce and you can still taste the prawns in the paste. A very nice dish.

Hor Fun, I think this is one of the best hor fun I have tasted so far. Their hor fun has the wok hei taste and the sauce is nice with strong taste of seafood. The ingredients they use are fresh and we wiped this out in minutes.

Fried spring chicken, the staff that takes our order recommend this dish to us. The chicken is tender and juicy. The skin is crispy and it tastes even better if you dip and eat with the salt/pepper they provide together with this dish.

Spare ribs king, nice dish. Thou the meat is deep fried first and coated with the sweet sour sauce, but the meat is still tender, juicy and is well marinated. The sauce is nice. Great dish to go with white rice.

Staffs here may not be prompt as they are very busy at times but they are nice people, and so do ask them for their recommended dishes and they are most happy to assist you with this.

Nice Herbal Duck Smile Sep 23, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Roasted Meat

My dad is back from Shanghai and we are going to Airport to pick him up. Since it is dinner time, we decide to go to Dian Xiao Er at Terminal 3 level 3 for our dinner.

I like the herbal duck here, the skin is crispy and the duck meat is tender and soft. They have 3 kind of herbal duck to choose from. 1) Duck roasted with Angelica Herb, 2) Duck roasted with 10 wonder Herb and 3) Duck roasted with Wild Ginseng. We prefer the duck roasted with Angelica Herb ($35.90 for large size), the sauce and the duck has strong taste of the angelica herb and is so nice to go with white rice too.

Sweet and Sour Pork ($17.60), the sweet and sour pork here is alright, the pork is still slightly crispy after it is cooked with the sweet and sour sauce. Their sweet and sour sauce has well balanced taste of sweet and sour.

Chinese Spinach ($24.30), the soup that is cooked with the vegetable is nice and tasty. Most importantly, it is not too salty.

Fish Maw Soup ($33.60), this is my favourite dish in Dian Xiao Er, the soup is thick, sweet and has generous servings of fish maw and shredded chicken. I like to add vinegar and pepper into my soup.

Baby Kai Lan ($18.90), the vegetable is not overcooked and is nice.

Fried Shrimp Egg ($21.60), normal, nothing much to rave.

Dim Sum for Supper Smile Sep 23, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

It's late at 11pm and we are hungry coz we have early dinner today. Hubby suggested to have dim sum at Wen Dou Sek. A little eatery at Geylang and a little difficult to find parking lots at times.

I ordered a sugar cane drink, like the usual sugar cane we drink at hawker centre, refreshing and sweet but the drink here are all served in those takeaway container and not cups or glasses.

One of the must order when we dine at Wen Dou Sek, the Crispy beancurd rolls, the skin is fried till crispy and the prawn they use are fresh and nice. Goes very well with their special chilli sauce. Their chilli sauce is sweet to taste and a little spicy, nice.

Hubby's favourite, fried carrot cake. The fried carrot cake here is soft and yet a little crispy outside. Nice.

I was craving for hot porridge and so I decide to order this claypot duck porridge and not the usual minced pork porridge. This is nice, the porridge is smooth with lots of shredded duck meats in the porridge, nice.
