Paradise, Indeed! Smile Jan 30, 2012

Categories : Fujian/Heng Hwa | Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Kids-Friendly

There's always a long queue outside this restaurant, but, on that day, there wasn't a long one, so we decided to give it a try.
From the moment we got to our table, it was indeed different.
The menus were stored in a hidden compartment under the table, for easy reference
and to save space.
Everything felt like paradise - from the peanuts, to the drinks, to the food, to the service.
The steamed paenuts were really good, unlike others we had tried.
The tea was served in transparent glass tea pots and small oval glasses - it was like a scene out of a folktale from the past...
The food - in huge portions - did not disappoint.
The two types of fried rice each had their own, distinct flavour.
The surprise was the Sweet n Sour Chicken, which was a welcome change from the seafood dishes that usually came in this form.
The Egg Omelette with long beans was also a smart creation.
Of course, the vegetables went well with both types of rice.
Although the bill was a little steep, this restaurant will be on my list when i need a
special place.

Not Really Spicy, But Tasty!!! Smile Jan 29, 2012

Chanced upon this Coffee House in Concorde Hotel (former Meridein Hotel) on Orchard Road one evening.

It was past 9pm, so we decided not to try the Buffet, though it looked tempting.
We opted for some local dishes and coffee.
Piping hot coffee with warm milk was great on that cold, rainy night.
The Fried Seafood Mi Goreng and Kway Teow were good!
The yellow noodle used was of a thinner variety, and that added to the taste of the dishes.
The surprise element was the Satay - mutton and chicken.
It came packaged in brown paper, as if straight from a real hawker centre!
Interesting packaging concept, I must say!
It was the exceptional service that impressed us -more than the food, actually.
The manager in charge made sure that everything was perfect and it was, indeed.
Will definitely go back for the Buffets!!!

Mouth-watering Murtabab Smile Jun 30, 2011

Categories : Indian | Singaporean | Coffeeshop | Halal

This 24-hour coffee shop at the Serangoon Garden Circus is always busy - especially in the evenings. My favourites here are the Maggie Mee Goreng, Bee Hoon Goreng and Roti Prata;
not forgetting the Teh Tarik.
Decided to try the Mutton Murtabab this time with mutton gravy.
The Mutton Murtabab is just $5 and it is full of minced mutton pieces.
The mutton has been well marinated before being minced and with the right blend of spices,
the taste is something to savour. Together with the mutton, the diced onion and eggs also add flavour and when they are all added carefully to the well kneaded dough, the result is wonderful.
The murtabab is not too thick and the sides are crispy. It goes very well with the thick mutton gravy. It is a little oily, but thats important to retain the taste.
Therefore, I limit the number of times I can have murtabab in a month.
You can also ask for chicken or sardine murtabab.
Service is fast, if it is not during peak hours.

Delectable Delicacies Galore Smile Jun 30, 2011

This Cafe cum Restaurant is tucked in the basement of the Ang Mo Kio Hub.
It is quite a small place, so it fills up pretty fast at lunch time.
We tried lunch here for the first time yesterday, and we really had a gastronomical feast.
Although the place was full, our orders were taken quickly and served very fast.
We had the XO Fried Rice, Kai lan, Dry Red Chilli with Chicken and Deep Fried Prawn with Butter Sauce.,
The XO Fried Rice was piping hot and a little spicy. This dish is one of Pin Si's signature items and is quite different from other types of fried rice I've had before. It went very well with the other dishes. The Kai Lan was fresh and chewy. The Chicken had cashew nuts and water chesnut seeds as well. The dish was delicious and full of flavour.
The Prawns were equally good - the butter cream sauce was thick and enhanced the flavour of the prawns.
The only problem was the noise from the exhaust pipes that made the restaurant sound like an F1 racing area!
This, together with the music and the noise of the crowd made it quite difficult to have a peaceful lunch. However, the splendid taste more than made up for it.

Breakfast and More! OK Jun 29, 2011
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

This outlet at Junction 8 has been revamped and relocated.
The Coffee is still the best!
However, the Mee Rebus gravy lacked taste and the toast
was really cold.
I will still go back, though, to enjoy the coffee for its rich aroma and addictive taste!
