Thai Express Smile Dec 29, 2013

Thai Express is the place to go for some authentic Thai dishes. Anyway I was there with a group of friends and we ordered a good variety of food.

My friends and I ordered the soft shell crab with rice, tofu, prawn as well as laksa. Thai cuisine is known for its sour and tangy tastes and this is clearly represented in its dishes, especially the appetizers.

The soft shell crab was tasty and worth ordering a second time should we return. It has the curry sauce on it which complements the dish very well. The prawn dish is something like French toast but it is fried with prawns. Quite interesting. The tofu was so-so only. Nothing special. Last but not least, the laksa was nice but the portion is a bit small, both vermicelli-wise and the ingredients. Still I had say Thai Express is worth a visit for Thai food lovers!

Recommended Dish(es):  Soft shell crab

Sushi Smile Dec 29, 2013

Sakae Sushi is a homegrown sushi chain so my friend and I decided to support local businesses! (Just kidding). My friend likes Japanese cuisine and since we happen to pass by, we decided to go to Sakae Sushi for dinner.

I prefer cooked food so I ordered items like the takoyaki balls and the soba noodles while she had sashimi. The soba noodles is served chilled and makes for a refreshing noodles treat. The sauce is also lightly salted and adds flavour to the soba. The takoyaki ball is cooked perfectly with its crisp exterior and soft and chewy texture within.

Recommended Dish(es):  Cold soba, Takoyaki balls

Siam Thai Food Smile Dec 29, 2013

My friend brought me to Super Siam Thai Restaurant for some authentic Thai food. We ordered the Pineapple Rice and Mango Salad. The Pineapple Rice provides an explosion of different tastes and textures with their varied ingredients like the vegetables, pineapples, nuts and floss. The mango salad also comes topped with nuts and thinly sliced mango, carrot and onion. The mango is different from the mango which we usually see at the fruit stalls. Coupled with the sauce at the bottom, it is quite a crunchy appetizer.

Hand-burgers Smile Dec 29, 2013

According to the founders of the restaurant, they are named The Handburger because everything is made using their hands. So for that I had give full marks for creativity. It sounds similar to hamburgers as well. Lol.

The Handburger do offer some decent hamburgers and while I was there for lunch, I ordered the Chicken caesar burger while my friend had The Works. The burgers come presented with a spoon in the middle, presumably to help the burger stand by itself without toppling over. The chicken caesar consists of a chicken patty wrapped in bacon and that is my most favourite combination of all! Its hard to find chicken burger paired with bacon. Most of all, the Caesar sauce complements the burger really well.

I would definitely return to try their other menu items. Yummy scrummy!

Casual Japanese Dinner Smile Dec 29, 2013

Watami is another Japanese restaurant with a pronounced presence in Singapore, with 8 outlets scattered around the island.

My friend and I happen to dine at their Ion Orchard outlet and we ordered the Chicken with Egg and Seafood and Chicken Pot Rice. The rice in the latter dish is a bit moist; having been cooked in a pot but nonetheless it is quite flavourful filled with quite a variety of seafood, chicken and mushrooms. The Chicken with Egg reminds me of my school’s kaki tamago with the scrambled egg at the bottom but the one at Watami offers a runnier version of the egg. Quite delicious and the chicken is well
